Can An Ecommerce Store Be SEO Friendly?

Submitted by jackmack

It is well known that an ecommerce store is generally difficult to make it SEO (search engine optimisation) friendly. The problem is that search engines have problems when it comes to reading dynamic content or PHP query strings. This is also a problem because it is better to have your keyphrases contained within the actual URL.

This traditionally has been problematic to solve, however a good ecommerce web design company should be able to solve this for you. The solution is called HTML rewrites.

What this does is rewrites the PHP into descriptive html URL’s. This will really help the search engines index the pages properly and give you a chance to include some keyphrases in the path.

However you still need to be able to create unique Meta tags for each page. A good back office solution should let you have control over this and be able to set original Meta tags for each page.

Another problem is the ability to create a sitemap that will automatically update your new pages. A sitemap helps search engine index your pages and is also good for web usability. If your web design company are good at what they do then this should also be included in your ecommerce stores backend, so you don’t need to worry about it.

There are so many big companies out there that have online stores and their websites are not very SEO friendly. This is definitely one thing you should ask your web designer about.

The thing is that most web design companies don’t know much about SEO and how it works. So when you come to hire an SEO company they can have a tough time optimising your website.

I found this SEO Company that also specialises in ecommerce web design and you can get the best of both worlds. So if you’re looking for website design Edinburgh I would give them a try.

So to recap make sure you ask your web designer if their solutions are SEO friendly. Also ask them to see some examples of their work and check the things we have mentioned above, and if you see that these techniques have been implemented then they may be a good choice to design your website. This will save you time and money when you come to hire a search engine optimisation company in the future.
