Many webmasters might wonder if the directory submissions are still needed to get their website to the first position on search engines. This is because there has been a big boom in the web since the start of web2.0.There are so many websites being started everyday that let you add your own content and start your own blog. These are called "wikis" and the "web2.0 properties". Although these could be used for one-way links, you need to understand that your links would only come from a sub domain instead of the main domain. But this is not the case in directories. The links are going to placed in the best category. Thus you have two major benefits:
The links are going to be one-way.
Links are going to placed in the relevant category - you might be well aware that Google likes relevant links more.
Manual or automatic directory submissions - which is the best?
Some people might want to use the software to submit their website link to a list of directories. Although this is going to be cheap, you must remember that submitting manually would result in higher quality submissions. The manual directory submitters would be able to select the best suitable category in each directory. There are also specific niche directories which could be used to bring one-way links.
What if Google considers the directory submissions as aggressive link building?
Some webmasters might be worried to get the huge directory submission packages. There are some service providers who submit links to 1000 to 2500 directories. So if you are thinking whether Google will consider these type of links as aggressive link building, the answer is 'no'. This is because of the following reasons:
The links are not going to be accepted immediately. The speed of approval will depend on the incoming volume of submissions. Thus you are not going to get 2500 one-way links in just a single day.
Moreover you can also request the directory submitters to spread the submissions to over a week. They would always accept such requests.
