There have been numerous announcements of product releases and updates with many of the major search engines trying to get a foothold in the search market as it is central to almost every internet user around the world. With the number of updates that have been carried out over the last few weeks, one of them could affect SEO's in a big way. PageRank sculpting, this is the process of trying to get pages indexed, by clever use of the nofollow attribute to distribute link juice from one page to another. This could now become a pointless Internet Marketing task.

SEO experts are saying that it isn't a reliable method to boost search engine positions. PageRank should be allowed to flow freely and the idea of manipulating PageRank should be low priority as the primary factors to any Search Engine Marketing Campaign should be: original high quality content, good site structure, high quality/relevant links - which will make search engine want to crawl and index a website for better positions.

Search engines want to be able to present relevant highly appropriate content to its users, and one of the ways to do this is to create original content in the form of articles, press releases, new content pages on your website etc. This way you can then go out and syndicate the content and get the pages cached and ready to display in the search engines. This can have a great effect on search engine positions, and if done correctly, can add significant amounts of highly targeted traffic to a website.

There are numerous tactics that involve manipulation of some sort or another. But it seems that this current tactics has had its day and you are better off sticking to the basics than waste time on this pointless task.
