How much time should you invest in SEO?

Today, I want to talk with you about a controversial issue of SEO help. By now, you should know that there are 2 factors that make your site promotion successful:

As I always emphasize in my posts, I am one of the believers that content is King. High quality content is always liked by search engines and visitors. In fact, people come and return to your site because of your content quality, not your SEO performance. So content should never be neglected.

We also have established that content quality itself is not merely sufficient for search engines to index you and thus give a chance to all those visitors to find your great quality content. Therefore, you must implement SEO help techniques to gain extra favor from the search engines.

The controversy here is how do we balance our effort?

For an attractive website, you must give a reason for your readers to return to your site as often as possible. So why should they do so? Because you should add new fresh quality content everyday! Not only this will give people more information to satisfy their hunger, search engines are also very fond of growing and regularly updated sites.

Yes, writing fresh quality content is not so easy and does take time indeed. I know I do it myself. I make sure that each and every day, I write an article of over 700 words that will provide my readers help in some kind of ways, not just merely babbling.

So, it seems that most of our time is already taken by producing high quality daily content for our site. Yet, we still have to manage to optimize it to make it search engine friendly if not all our efforts in producing this content will be wasted.

Fortunately, there are myriads of SEO help techniques to help us promote our site. In fact, this is also where our problem lies: there are too many techniques, and if any of you have tried any bit of SEO before, although it’s not so difficult to do, it is extremely time consuming.

It seems that we are stuck at this point. With the time we have available (I talk about people with a normal life, that is people who take their meals, 8 hours of work, spend time with their families, etc… not the no-life workaholic busy in front of their computer for 20 hours per day) we can hardly do both within a day.

Here’s our dilemma:

* If we focus on content quality only, our visitors will love it. Unfortunately, without SEO help no one will be given the chance to read it. Not a good solution.

* If we focus on SEO help only, we’ll get a good search engine ranking. However, whoever will come to visit our website may not return due to the lack of content quality. No a good solution either.

So what should we do? How do we balance both?

We must deal in almost certainty.

Number 1 ranking in search engines is great, but it’s not the definite purpose of SEO. SEO is here to help you bring quality visitors to your site, over and over again.

This is done by writing and offering high quality content daily to your readers. The only thing that will make a reader come again is the worth of your site, not the quality of its SEO. The means you should give more weight to your content building quality first.

Next, no matter how good is your content, you still need to use some SEO help to promote your content. Like I said before, it’s extremely time consuming and most of the techniques are ever changing, trying to catch up with the search engines latest algorithm innovation.

The key here is to focus on the right set of SEO help techniques, the ones that are everlasting, not a quick fix to gain a few ranking until the next algorithm change. One must focus on what I would call the “Root SEO Help Techniques”.

These are techniques that have existed and worked since the beginning of SEO and will always work, regardless of the algorithm:
