The Pros and Cons of Directories and Links Pages

Directories and links pages are two ways webmasters have used to increase their back-links to their website thus increasing their search engine rankings in the organic search results in search engines. Are these two techniques worth the trouble and are they effect tools in increasing search engine visibility. In this article I will explain the pros and cons of both methods and analysis how effective these two techniques really are.

Directory Pros

Directories have long been a technique that has been very popular for webmasters. The advantages for directories are as follows. Obtaining a link from a directory is at the end of the day a link and all links are good some better than others. In the case of Dmoz and Yahoo’s directories submitting to then plus good niche local directories can indeed help your SEO efforts more than most other directories. Directories can also help with co- citation which is how search engines sees your website in relation to other websites and help determine what industry your website is apart of. This helps as search engines analyse other links on the page that your links appear to help determine what your website is related too. Directory Cons

Most directories with the exception of a few good ones will not deliver much traffic to your website so for traffic purposes then this is not a good way to generate traffic. I would not put all your eggs in one basket and submit your site only to directories, try and be imaginative and come up with other ways to strengthen your website.

Links Pages Pros

As I said earlier all links are good so having a links page cannot harm.

Links pages for the most part are dead it is hard to obtain a link from these pages and can be very time consuming emailing people to ask for a link. Also these pages have no strengthen so obtaining a link from them would be a weak link indeed.
