The SEO Trump Card

In the SEO world there are many things you can do to strength your website in the search engine results pages including perfecting your website internally. For example making sure your internal linking structure is well optimised. However there is one tactic that trumps them all. You may have guessed what it is as I’m sure you have heard about it.

Yes that’s right its links. When you tell people about how important links are they seem to only think it means getting thousands of links to your website, the more the merrier. This may have been the case a few years ago and if an SEO company still focuses on this then they are out of touch. It does not mean you have to get thousands of links to your site it means that quality is better than quantity.

The thing with SEO is that it is continually changing and developing and a lot of SEO companies don’t realise this so they stick to their old methods. This is dangerous as their clients will start to suffer from this.

Let’s take for example links pages, when exchanging links a lot of the time these links are placed on links pages. Now the problem with this is that these pages usually don’t have any strength and don’t have any links pointing to them. Why would you want to link to a links page? Also the search engines are wise to this tactic and can see a links page for its true worth which is to artificially increase websites strength. One such move a while ago by Google was to place less importance on reciprocal links. If you are both linking to each other Google came to the conclusion that these links where more than likely artificial.

The other important fact about links is how your website links to other page within itself. Let’s say for example you want to rank for “Car Hire”. If your website doesn’t link well internally with this keyphrase then your rankings will suffer. How can you expect Google to make your page relevant to a particular keyphrase if your own website doesn’t think it’s relevant?
To make your ecommerce web design SEO friendly check out here I used them and learned a lot. Their website design Edinburgh office can help you out.

When it comes to SEO you should really leave it to the professionals and when you hire one make sure you do your research and make them prove how good they are claiming to be. Ask them to show their results and results for their clients. Be beware though, sometimes keyphrases can sound good but if there is little or no searchers for that particular keyphrase then it’s worthless.
