Many SEO experts will tell you that they have specific ways of choosing the right keywords for a website. Some do it using SEO tools - software that compares possible keywords to see which are used the most. Some will give you DIY methods with spreadsheets.

Keyword selection is the first step in search engine optimization. It's also the phase where most people go wrong. If you pick a keyword that is not used by the people hunting for your product, you won't get traffic. And if you use a keyword which is highly popular, you'll face intense competition from other websites

Keyword Selection How should you select your keywords? Your goal is to find keyword phrases that are related to your business and that your potential customers actually use in Google, Yahoo! or other Internet search engines.

Search engine optimization requires a careful keyword analysis and placing these keywords at proper places in the website. I am a professional SEO and in this article I will highlight few important SEO tips that you should follow in order to secure good search engine rankings.

Keywords with high traffic are going to be too difficult to compete in right from the
start and keywords with low traffic are not worth optimizing for. Your initial goal
should be to find a few good keywords from the middle of the traffic counts that you
can easily optimize for.

The first and the most important factor is to select keywords that are related to your business. The selection of keywords also requires some research on the user queries, which are issued to look for a specific service, product and document. Therefore, it is helpful to do some research about the user inputs if they want to find your product through search engines.

It is important to remember that while choosing the right keywords is vital to the success of a marketing campaign, choosing keywords that are inappropriate will target the wrong people making the process of converting eyeballs to sales a nightmare. Here are some tips on choosing keywords that will give you great leads, which can easily be converted into sales.

Once you have established a good list of keywords, start ranking them by relevance to the pages content. Robots are less likely to rank your for keywords that are not relevant to the rest of the page. Your homepage's first paragraph is the ideal place to start.

People search with a variety of terms so try to add misspelled words, capitalize some of them or add the plural version. Remember that people make mistakes, so by adding these words, the engine should pick up on traffic that the other sites have not taken into account.

It is better to keep a keyword or phrase specific to drive qualified traffic to your website. Single word phrases or short phrases in general make it difficult to rank well with search engines due to their not being highly targeted. Longer phrases that are strongly related to the content of your web page will see more visitor-to-buyer conversions than anything else.
