Website Design Rules
by Tab Solon
One can never justify the lack of performance when visiting a web page just because the website design is beautiful. It is a mistake committed by many new webmaster and even by some professional webmaster to include too many elements that need a long time to load just to be bale to view them.

These are the rules of a good website design. 1) Splash pages should not be included

Splash pages are the first pages you see when you arrive at a website. Made up of pretty designs, they are usually lavish images and graphics with accompanying words such as “welcome to our site” or “click here to enter”. The unfortunate thing is splash pages actually takes away attention from the real purpose of the website, and often frustrates users with their slow loading time. This fanciful addition only serves to confuse the visitor who will likely leave your website immediately if loading time takes too long.

2) Do not use too many banner if you want to keep your visitors

Some sites have a number of these advertising banners displayed around the page but the most prominent place is at the top. Banner ad tends to be ignored by most web surfers so it is a total majority of the web surfers so they would a total waste of your website space. A better solution would be to add useful web contents and weave affiliate links artfully into them.

3) Make it an effort to make navigation very simple

You have to provide a simple and very straightforward navigation menu so that even a young child will know how to use it. Avoid the use of flash menus or multi-tiered menus because generally they are not a good idea as far as easy navigation is concerned. Remember, if users find it hard to navigate, they will leave very soon after landing on your home page. The creation of a site map that will help visitors find what they need should be one of the first things you consider as part of your website design.

4) Make it clear where the user is at the moment

When you have successfully captured their attention and enjoying the whole experience perusing your website, you will want to make them know where they are at the moment without feeling lost. That way, they will be able to browse relevant information or navigate to any section of the site easily. This can easily be achieved by ensuring each page has a title and a textual ‘breadcrumb trail’ that clearly shows the links they have made to get where they are now. Don't confuse your visitors because confusion means they will leave!

5) It is good to avoid using audio

If your visitor is going to stay a long time at your site, reading your content, you will want to make sure they're not annoyed by some audio looping on and on at your website. While some music can enhance the experience, even the most beautiful of sounds becomes irritating if it is played continuously. Using audios may not always be a good idea, if you have to include them be sure to allow for some form of user control such as volume or muting ability. By using this information on website design you will find visitors to your site stay much longer and will return in the future.
