Website Rankings: Are you A Neurotic Checker?Submitted by fcheshire Wed, 1 Oct 2008
The obsessive search engine ranking checking of your siteis not good for your health. There are some website owners that are compulsively checking their rankings every dayagain and again waiting for a sudden increase in their rankings from page 91 to page # 1 overnight. Pay attention for this this obsession to keep checking your rankings will drive you insane. In fact, it might even hurt the very rankings you are obsessively seeking.
What are some practical suggestions to fight these compulsive feelings? Here are a few ideas to remind yourself to keep you balanced in your thinking: 1- Your prayers will not be answered by giving you front page results on the search engines. It is just not going to happen that way. Don’t be tricked by all the hype and empty promises of guaranteed overnight success on page one of Yahoo , MSN and Google.Remember its only a mirage, it will last a few days and then you will be gone again. 2- This is a long term project. You must be committed for the long haul if you want to dominate the search engines with rankings that stay on page one. Google values websites that have aged gracefully. It will take anywhere from 3-6 months to begin to see the results you want. 3- You must be taking regular consistent action to get the rankings you desire. Sumitting to the directories is a good way to start. But don’t think that is all you have to do. Remember it was the tortoise that won the race, not the hare that did everything real quick right away. Serious business owners plan on either having a monthly budget to perform ongoing search engine optimization maintenance or to implement themselves an ongoing program to add links, contribute articles, use social media and add valuable blog comments to industry relevant blogs. Why is this so imperative? Your competitors are busy building their businesses as you read this. If you sit back and do nothing before you know it you will 6 months to a year in the future and you will be in the same exact place you are now... Absolutely no where! 4- Don’t think that you will get a page one ranking with your little 5 page website, and a couple of back links alone. Google gives its blessing to those sites that are viewed as authority sites. All the time you are wasting compulsively checking your rankings can be used to add an informative article a day to your site or blog. Theme related educational articles will do wonders for your website. Google always favors the authoritative site with high page rank and search engine rankings. 5- Set a goal to not check your search engine rankings more than once a week. Give yourself time so that your items can be approved and indexed. It’s funny how the human mind works. Professionals in this field report that daily routine and structure is very helpful for people who fight compulsive disorders. Why not make this a goal with your website building as well? Be resolved to keep busy with by applying these suggestion that will give you peace of mind knowing that you are busy working towards your long term goals in building your site.
