Quality Link building is a tedious process. Each website and industry is unique. Tactics that work on some websites won't work on others and there's not a lot one can do about it. The best thing to do is to try everything and capitalize on techniques that work when one finds them.

Keep in mind along that way that just like in business, it's not always what one know, it's who one knows. Relationships that one form online and offline can often lead to scoring a great link from a website that otherwise wouldn't consider one

Below, a list of ways to go about building quality links to one's website:

Content creation - Content is still king in the Internet world so one would have got to start one's link building efforts by creating a good website with great content. Here are some ideas:

• Write articles about one's industry

• Create free web applications

• Create informational or entertaining videos

• Write whitepapers

• Create top ten lists

• Write a glossary of terms important to one's industry

• Write reviews of products, places, things or people

Industry experts - Based on one's industry, there are probably a number of professional organizations, regulatory agencies and industry experts who could provide one with a link. Network with and/or join these organizations if they'll give one a link back. Following can be joined:

• The Better Business Bureau

• The Chamber of Commerce

• Any professional organization for one's industry

Educational institutions - Based on one's industry, there may be educational institutions that will link to one as a resource. For example, if one has a construction company, there may be several construction colleges or architecture schools that may link to one because one provides internships or resources that help their students. If one manufacture a product there may by engineering schools willing to link one to as a resource.

Niche websites - Similar but non-competitive websites that offer a link exchange could be found. This benefits both parties from a traffic generation and SEO perspective.

Article marketing - Few non-promotional, informative and entertaining articlescould be written about a topic related to one's industry. Within the article or in the author resource area, a link back to one's website could be added. Then this article could be submitted to article directories like EzineArticles.com and ArticleDashboard.com. When these articles are published, one will get a couple links back. If other websites decide to publish one articles as well, one would get links from them as well.

Social networks - One's website, blog posts or any other content one have on one's website could be submitted to sites like Digg.com and StumbleUpon.com. If one's content is unique and interesting, others will recommend it and one may not only see a lot of traffic, but also get links. Contributing to any social communities used by people in one's industry could be considered. It's a great way to network with other professionals and possible find some link opportunities.

Competitive research - If one's competitors are successful at getting links, they have done most of the hard part. Types of websites that link to one's competitors could be examined.

These are just a few ideas that will get one started quality link building. Many more ideas will flow as one analyzes the successful competitors. It should be remembered that the best links take the most effort. Sometimes, one have to pick of the phone, write a letter or send a bottle of wine to the right person to get in. Some websites get link requests all day long so one should not be afraid to do something unique to get a link. Successful link building is critical to SEO success, so one should be prepared to devote some time to it.
