The wonderful world of digital entertainmentSubmitted by Sandy.Cosser Wed, 14 Nov 2007
We are very fortunate to live in a world where it is not necessary for us to attend every event that we want to. All we have to do is wait a few months and buy the dvd. They release dvds of just about everything these days. There are dvds of sports events, movie dvds, nature dvds, self-help dvds, exercise dvds and music dvds.
Music dvds can include compilations of the latest music video releases, or artists can record their concerts and release those as dvds. Bonus material is often added such as interviews, a behind the scenes view on what goes into staging a concert, or they might include some never before seen footage from past interviews. Modern artists are not the only ones to benefit from the release of concert dvds. Many artists from the 60s and 70s, whose concerts were recorded but never released or who never managed to reach a wide audience, have now been digitally remastered, the sound and picture quality has been enhanced and the dvds have been released internationally. This is a huge blessing to fans who weren’t able to travel the world to attend concerts or who were born too late to see the artists in action. New music dvds are released virtually every day and are as eagerly anticipated as new albums, if not more so. There are many people who prefer the sound and the atmosphere generated by a live performance. They are also visually stimulating and for many, are more capable of holding their attention than a cd. By watching artists interact with audiences, viewers are able to relate more closely with them and are more likely to buy their future releases. The latest music dvd releases for November include: Eminem: Live from New York City This is the concert that took place at Madison Square Gardens, New York in 2005 and is part of a US TV series called “Showstoppers”. This is Eminem at the height of his game and includes guest appearances from D12, Obie Trice, and Stat Quo. He performs a variety of songs from all of his albums including his hits: Stan, The Way I Am, Just Lose It, Lose Yourself, My Band, Cleaning Out My Closet, and Like Toy Soldiers. No one can put on a show quite like Eminem can. The lighting is only one of the spectacular aspects of this stellar show. Even if you aren’t a fan, you will find yourself well entertained by Eminem’s charisma and showmanship. Mika: Live in Cartoon Motion Mika is one of the break out artists of the year so it makes sense that his concert in Paris at the L’Olympia would also be ground breaking. He performed in front of 4000 fans, wowing them with his trademark exuberant dancing and eclectic fashion sense. The concert was shot using 10 high definition cameras and includes a special 3-track acoustic session, music videos for Relax, Love Today, Big Girl and Grace Kelly as well as featuring his adventures around the world over the past year. Paul McCartney: The McCartney Years This is a 3-disc set, the first 2 discs contain a collection of music videos and exclusive commentaries while disc 3 has a selection of live performances from 3 of his best live shows: “Rockshow” from the Wings 1976 World Tour, “Unplugged”, and his legendary Glastonbury 2004 performance. There is also bonus material of never before seen footage, interviews, alternative music videos, personal introductions for each video and live concert and much more. Paul McCartney is a legend in the music business. He was pivotal in making it what it is today. He has a deep love for music, of all kinds, and the fact that he is still making music and making a success of it says a lot about him, his talent and the loyalty of his fans. Bob Dylan at the Newport Folk Festival: 1963 – 1965 This is the first time that footage has ever been released of Bob Dylan at the Newport Folk Festival and they’ve made it worth the wait. The disc is over 80 minutes and includes many performances that were previously unavailable. The picture and audio has been restored with the help of the latest technology. The disc features some of Dylan’s greatest songs including Blowin in the Wind, Like a Rolling Stone and Mr Tambourine Man. There are countless new releases for November and even more coming our way in early December. Everyone is trying to get released in time for the Christmas present rush. This is the time of the year when you see a lot of greatest hits albums and dvds coming out. A music dvd makes the perfect gift, especially for someone who is difficult to shop for or notoriously fussy. Everyone likes music and everyone appreciates the opportunity to enjoy a concert without the pressing crush of sweaty bodies in every direction.
