Using the Internet for Job Searches

If you need a job or are simply looking for a change in your career, you have a wonderful resource at your fingertips. The Internet is filled with many usefuls venues that can be helpful for job training, applying for jobs, and presenting your job skills. Here are a few areas where you might find the Internet most helpful.

Job training. The Internet has tons of educational resources that can be helpful for job training purposes. You can learn new skills, browse for books and videos that can educate you about careers and job skills. You can search for companies that are offering internships and colleges that offer online courses. Many jobs require experience and education. You can get started from the Internet!

Research careers. If you don't know what you want to do for a living, you can find out about a large variety of occupations, what they do, what is required, and more. Simply use a search engine or look at college websites to learn about educational majors that are require for certain careers, what the basic tasks are of some careers. You can even take quizzes and surveys that will help you understand yourself and what career would be suitable for you.

Find local and nationwide jobs. There are a variety of job services websites that will list jobs that are available. You can specify to search for jobs in your area, or find jobs all over the world. If you're ready for a fresh start, you might be able to find your dream job in the other part of the country. The Internet opens the world to you and brings these job request right to your fingertips.

Job search advice. You can find endless tips and sample resources that will teach you how to write your resume, application letters, cover letters, and college applications. You can also find tips for interveiws and searching for a job that suits you. You can order clothing, resume paper, and other essential items that will prepare you for the interview and your first day at work.

Resume Posting. Once you have written and designed the perfect resume, you need to get it out to the public where people searching for people like you can find them! There are a variety of job websites, like CareerBuilder.com and Monster.com that will not only allow you to post a resume, but will help you create a profile and send you updates of jobs available that match your interests and desired location. These sites also allow you to list your skills and experience in hopes to grab the interest of potential employers who need someone with your qualities.

Research businesses. If you have a certain company in mind that you think you would like to work for, you can find out about their company or research their history on the Internet. The majority of businesses have their own website, which is a great place to start. From there, you can see how they present themselves and read about the services and goods they offer. You can also run a search query on a business to find press releases, reviews, and other news about the company you are interested in. You can find important contact information, like the human resources manager, who you would want to contact if you are interested in applying there.

Online applications. Many companies are now posting career openings and post general applications on their website. If there is a company you have researched and want to apply to, you can now do it quickly and easily online. This will also ensure that it was submitted instantly and reached the right person.

Prepare for your Interview. As we mentioned earlier, the Internet has many tips to help you know how to dress and act during an interveiw. One tip you will often read is that you must be knowledgable about the company and ask informed questions to show the interveiwee that you have a vested interest in their company, and not just looking for money. You will find this information on the Internet! Simply research the company to find the latest developments and procedures, as well as mission statements and long-term traditions of the company. This exercise itself will bring questions to your mind that will be great to ask your interveiwee.
