Do You Test Your Website to increase website revenue? Part 1

Submitted by jackmack

To turn your website into a revenue generating machine you really must test your website. If your website isn’t converting customers then you should really read on. Let’s say you are getting 500 visitors a month and you aren’t converting customers most companies would say that they need to get more visitors to their website.

This is the mistake that a lot of companies make. This is called the leaky bucket theory. If you manage to drive more traffic to your website all that you will achieve is more unconverted traffic. It is like a leaky bucket, until you plug the leak you will continue to loose water.

So how do you plug the leak? Well first of all you need to have a way of tracking your visitor’s behaviour. I would recommend Google analytics to do this. It is a free piece of software you can sign up to, to best track visitor behaviour. If you can’t track what’s happening now then you can’t improve it.

Once this is installed you can start to look at why people aren’t buying from your website. You will need to give it a while until the stats start to form a pattern.

You can now see how people are finding your website and if these are the right people you need to convert to sales. Check the stats that tell you how search engines are bringing you traffic. Are these the right keyphrases that are relevant to your business? If the answer is no then you need to look at analysing what the best targeted keyphrases are for your business. You can also take a look at how long people are spending on your website if people are leaving straight away then this may be not what they are looking for or your website didn’t make it easy form them to find the product or information they were looking for.

Hiring SEO experts can help you here to best identify your keyphrases, this company can help you with all your website design needs.

Once you have the best targeted keyphrases then its time to put your website into testing mode. In part two of this article I will discuss some of the tests you can put into place on your website to best track what’s working and what isn’t. As you website always needs to be in a state of testing, the quicker you can test the quicker the improvements. You can also improve on your websites performance.
