Anchor Text Anchor text is the word or term used as the starting point and ending point of a web address that is embedded into the webpage. Bandwidth Bandwidth is the amount of data or speed by which the transfer of files and information are conducted over the internet. The higher the bandwidth your hosting service provides, the faster your web page would load. Bookmark The term used to describe the act of saving or storing a website or a link from the internet into a web browser for easier access in the future. Cookie The term given to the information that is stored by a web server into a browser. The information is accessed by the same web site that generated it whenever you visit it again. Cookies contain relevant information about your surfing activity and your computer's identity. It is usually used by affiliate programs when tracking sales. Database A set of computer data that is stored in a web server. The database is accessed by certain web or computer programs to provide or retrieve information for the user. FTP FTP means File Transfer Protocol. It is the common method of sending files from a user's computer to the web hosting server. Home Page Home page pertains to the first page or the front page of your website. It is the main page that the visitors see when they click on your link. Java A type of programming language created and developed by Sun Microsystems. Its application is mainly seen on web pages and servers. JPEG or JPG JPEG is a type of graphical format that is popular online. A JPEG is a compressed image, making it portable and very ideal of web applications. Meta Tags These are tags that are inserted at the top of every web page. Its purpose is to describe a page for search engine optimization. Meta tags are displayed by search engines when that particular page comes up in the search results. MySQL MySQL is an open source, free-to-use database software. Its application is mainly on content management systems like WordPress and similar web programs. Page Hits Page hits refer to the frequency by which a web page is visited. Hits are important in tracking the performance of your website and analyzing the traffic that each page creates. Web Applet An applet is a Java program that is usually downloaded over the web and then run on the user's computer.
