MIXX
Mixx is a user-driven social media web site that serves to help users submit or find content by peers based on interest and location. It combines social networking and bookmarking with web syndication, blogging and personalization tools.
Users of Mixx can control a personalized blend of web content that includes text-based articles, images and videos. Mixx users can search and discover media relevant to their interests, and interact with friends and other Mixx users who share their common interests.
The content on Mixx comes from various online sources, such as news services and online publishers of media such as video, images, and various other content. Mixx users can submit items from any online source, including their own websites.
Mixx lets users generate their own unique mix of web-based media by creating their own personalized start page. By submitting, commenting on and voting for or against stories, photos and videos that they like or don’t like using a democratic voting method, Mixx users can influence the flow of incoming media and recommend relevant media to other users within specific categories like business, sports and health using either free-form or pre-determined meta tags to define items by subject matter or geography.
Mixx users can also follow other users with whom they share common interests, as well as create, join and invite other Mixx users to private groups to further share and discuss relevant items among peers.
When it comes to design, Mixx has it all. From the way its navigation was built, to the way the page was layed out, the way the windows the categories was organized, it speaks perfection. Every categories from popular stories, to top photos, have been arranged neatly for anyone to have an easier way of finding their destinations. And with its navigation neatly found above, visitors could easily navigate through the website. The logo also did a pretty good job on representing the Mixx website.

STUMBLEUPON
StumbleUpon is an Internet community that allows its users to discover and rate Web pages, photos, and videos. It is a personalized recommendation engine which uses peer and social-networking principles.
Web pages are presented when the user clicks the "Stumble!" button on the browser's toolbar. StumbleUpon chooses which Web page to display based on the user's ratings of previous pages, ratings by his/her friends, and by the ratings of users with similar interests. Users can rate or choose not to rate any Web page with a thumbs up or thumbs down, and clicking the Stumble button resembles "channel-surfing" the Web.
StumbleUpon also allows their users to indicate their interests from a list of nearly 500 topics to produce relevant content for the user. There is also one-click blogging built in as well.
Toolbar versions exist for Firefox, Mozilla Application Suite and Internet Explorer, but also works with some independent Mozilla-based browsers. Third party toolbars have also been created for Safari and Opera.
In July 2006 StumbleUpon had 1 million users. According to the homepage, StumbleUpon has more than 6.7 million members as of January 6, 2009. Before the end of May 2008, StumbleUpon says that it will have collected its five-billionth "stumble", more than one billion of which have taken place in 2008 alone.

What i liked about StumbleUpon is its banners. Its unique, its fresh, and its a good way to look at something entertaining without it moving. Also, the logo made the site more unique than others. Proper color combination is its forte. But what gave the site away is its clattered page layout. Though it gave a few points in in uniqueness, it did make it a lot confusing at first glance.
DIGG

Digg is a social news website made for people to discover and share content from anywhere on the Internet, by submitting links and stories, and voting and commenting on submitted links and stories.
Voting stories up and down is the site's cornerstone function, respectively called digging and burying. Many stories get submitted every day, but only the most Dugg stories appear on the front page. Digg's popularity has prompted the creation of other social networking sites with story submission and voting systems.
Simplicity is a good thing when it comes to web designs, and Digg's logo proved this. I gave it a 9/10 in its logo and a 7.5/10 in its page layout. Though the logo speaks of simplicity, the whole of the website missed a few pointers of it. Though the way they featured the number of "diggs" made it unique, this made it a bit clattered. It's also hard to make your way through this website. The navigation, though very helpeful, can confuse first time visitors.
For web design and development needs, the multi-talented artists and programmers of an online Web design Philippines site can offer you just what you need.
YAHOO! BUZZ
Yahoo! Buzz is a community-based news article website, much like Digg, that combines the features of social bookmarking and syndication through a user interface that allows editorial control.
Users can be allowed to publish their own news stories, and link to their own or another person's site that links to a full story of the information, therefore driving traffic to that person's website and creating a larger market for sites that research and publish their own news articles and stories, such as CNN or smaller, privately owned websites.
Yahoo! created the service in hopes that it would drive larger traffic to their site and would give them an advantage over larger online media companies such as Google or MSN, which are Yahoo!'s largest competitors in terms of search engines that provide services and web features to its customers. Unlike other social networking sites, Buzz allows the publisher to modify the submission.
What can we say, its Yahoo! Keeping up with Yahoo!'s theme made it look good. The way they featured every element made it look good and unconfusing. But the only thing I found is the lack of navigation. Though there is a navigation at the bottom of the page, the way it was designed and positioned made it a lot harder to find.
PROPELLER
Propeller, previously known as Netscape.com, is a social news aggregator operated by AOL-Netscape. It is similar to Digg; users can vote for which stories are to be included on the front page and may comment on them as well.
Propeller was hosted on the Netscape.com domain from June 2006 to September 2007 when it was replaced by the AOL Netscape generic portal.
The previous version of Propeller was released to mixed reactions. Some users liked that they had more participation ability while others found the pages to be harder to navigate and not as structured. Soon after the release of the new site, a story entitled "Netscape's Blunder" was the top rated story.
Though simplicity is a good thing for a website, too much of it can simply make a website boring. Though the design of the website made it look more organized and comfortable for the visitors, lack of color and life made it boring.
Learn of the many tools, hottest trends, and latest techniques used in web design by visiting an online Web design Philippines site.
