Web development technologies are immense in number but each one of them stands for its uniqueness in performance.

Regular mounting demands of web users have made these technologies more essential for providing solutions to complex problems. One of the problems on web in commercial transactions is electronic publishing and XML is introduced for electronic publications.

XML is formerly a general purpose technology known as Extensible Markup Language (XML). It is well-known among technicians as a "specification" for the creation of custom markup languages and classified as an "extensible" language, as it allows the users to define the markup elements, according to Wikipedia. Developers use XML for providing support to various information systems in the process of sharing data especially through internet as well as serializing (making in order) the data & encode the documents. According to technology experts XML is evolving in good pace for the development of web applications. With the increase of online commercial activities between buyers and sellers or increasing eCommerce activities are creating complex situations for the publication & documentation of commercial data. XML is developed by World Wide Web Consortium for providing the solutions to complex commercial applications, which requires more refine language, which can work more efficiently as extensible of existing (HTML Hyper text markup language).

Although to understand the extensibility of XML, it is necessary to know the work of HTML simultaneously. Both HTML & XML uses similar tag structure for page but HTML defines how elements are displayed on page and XML defines what elements contain, HTML uses pre-defined tags in development of page and XML allows the developer to define the tags for the page. XML is widely acceptable language among developers of the web applications which are used for commercial transactions and all eCommerce activities. It provides the standard way of information presentation, searching of information, exchange of information, etc. Data or information which is related to all commercial activities such as purchase orders from customer, credit card information of customer can be easily converted into XML and it can be used very effectively and shared among the applications without disturbing the heritage or existing systems by the developers.

While XML can be used for various purposes in the web application development, only it depends on how smartly it can be used by the developers to solve the complex situations in the web data publication and documentation. There are various uses of the XML language such as data transfer, publication of data, data distribution, for the synchronization of data, customize display of the data, provides easy solutions for collection of distributed specialized data over net and many more.
