Celebrity DUI ArrestsSubmitted by x508401 Mon, 12 Jan 2009
Though celebrities makes up only a small percentage of 1.5 million people arrested each year for Driving Under the Influence they capture the majority of the headlines. Some of the worst celebrity DUI cases also involve other motor vehicle violations as well as possession charges for illegal drugs.
The law does not discriminate when it is enforcing life saving laws and rules of the road such as drunk driving statutes. Huge fines, with or without jail time are required regardless of a violators celebrity status. Movie stars are not as invincible as they may think, but in many cases their money does get them out of trouble quicker than the average joe. Here are just a few prime examples... Lindsay Lohan thought that maybe since she was a star that she can break any rules she wants and had some drinks at a party and later found her self in jail with a DUI charge. Because of the DUI charge, she racked up more charges such as drug possession. It wasn't her first offense either so it took quite the amount of money to bail her out. She was released at a $25,000 bail later that day after only serving a few hours of jail time. However, her previous arrest resulted in two days in jail before getting out. In most states the legal blood alcohol limit is around .08. This celebrity was caught red handed with a limit between .12 and .13 percent. People like Lindsay never learn. The actress recently checked out of the Promises Rehabilitation facility where she was staying for crashing her Mercedes in May. You'd think continuous offenders would learn their lesson after a while. Trevor Smith, also known as Busta Rhymes, a famous rapper was also caught with a DUI charge early May in New York. The littlest things can cause so much trouble in his case. All the police were doing at first was pulling him over for having overly tinted windows. Doesn't seem like much right? Well as they were speaking to him, they smelled alcohol on his breath so they took him into custody. Now this guy probably could have avoided this whole thing by not tinting his windows but the police have to do what they have to do to keep the streets clean. When they found him he was legally drunk but when they got him to the police department, he only blew a .067. Since the legal limit in New York is .08, he was released immediately with an agreed upon bail of $7,500. Next time he might think twice on leaving with his overly tinted truck. Unfortunately Driving Under the Influence is a common problem brought to light all to often by the careless mistakes of the celebrities in the medias eye. About the Author
