Eerie County Reaches Asbestos Cancer Settlement

A $1.2 million asbestos cancer settlement was recently reached in Eerie County, New York regarding the ongoing asbestos cancer problems in the community.

The suit was filed by the county against several asbestos manufacturers and was finally settled after several years.

Asbestos Cancer Exposure at Companies

Celotex and Carey Canada were named as the primary defendants in the case.
The suit began several years ago when Dennis Gorski was still serving as the county executive in Eerie.
Since this time he has stepped down from the position but the suit has still gone forward with the help of other county officials and residents.

Accusations Made in Asbestos Lawsuit

Both companies were accused of injury and property damage due to the presence of asbestos in their building materials.

As a result of the asbestos cancer lawsuit, which was filed in 1990, the companies filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Other Asbestos Suits Filed

The suit filed by Eerie County is reportedly just one of thousands that have been filed against the companies for asbestos cancer exposure.
The county received $1.2 million in the settlement but county officials claim this may not be enough to cover the cost of asbestos removals.
