Making a Will when your single

Submitted by markhincks@live.com

If you are single and you are not married or with a partner then you should maybe start to think about making a will, this will make it considerably easier for those who might have to deal with your estate when you die. Many single people do not think making a will is really worth while or necessary, especially when you are younger but you must remember that many young single people have built up a fair amount of wealth so maybe making a will is necessary.

Most people don't rush to marry like they may have done years ago and people have to be prepared for all sorts of new things such as travel, so many people in the 20's and even early 30's are and have to be flexible as far as employment locality and living is concerned. So making a will may not be a priority especially if you are single or have no children and don't own a house or property. However, if you do own a house, flat or apartment and even with a hefty mortgage you will also have life cover in place. So in the event of your death the mortgage is repaid and the property becomes part of your estate and of course the car you own has a value and the life cover your company has on you all will form part of your estate so making a will is important no matter how old or your marital status.

As you start making a will one of the first questions to ask is not what have I built up to leave to someone but really who is there behind that I would like to gain from whatever I leave right now. Who would you want to benefit form your current assests. In a couple of years time of course you might want in any event to think about making a will again as your circumstances may well have altered but as a single person it is remarkable what you might just have in your estate and of course making a will now and making provisions for your "cat" or "dog" may seem daft but including their care in your will writing might just mean you feel better and have some peace of mind.

About the Author

I have a blog which highlights the importance of Will writing and covers the reasons as to why one should write a Will. It was stated that over 70% of the UK population do not have a Will, therefore i set out to create a source of information online to assist those that do not have a Will and point the reasons as to why you should write a Will.
