How to be an Immigration Attorney

Submitted by Dennis.Hopper

Ever heard of a job called immigration attorney? Have you ever wonder what is exactly an immigration attorney?

Some may think that an immigration attorney is simply a lawyer who works in the Immigration Department. But in reality, there is more to it than just a lawyer.

An immigration attorney is actually a person who practices law, namely concentrating in immigration related matters. Immigration lawyers normally worked with immigration law firms or immigration agencies. Their expertise is to assist people who are having problems with the Immigration Department such as visa problems, citizenship, deportation and even asylum.

To be an immigration attorney, one must first complete undergraduate degree majoring in Law. Then, find an institution which carries a comprehensive course on Immigration Law. If possible, get yourself an internship in an immigration law firm or any immigration agency so that you are exposed to the real working life at an early stage. Make sure you are always updated with the latest information about the immigration law and naturalization law as well. Try as much as possible to complete your course on time and with flying colors as this will determine your capability in this field.

After graduating, you should find yourself a position in a national agency that handles immigration related issues. It is advisable that you find a reputable firm that has wide experience on this field. Plus, in order to get a good portfolio, you must also join the American Immigration Lawyer Association or any similar association.

Do set in mind that you are doing this job to help people, not just for your own personal gain. Help your clients with open heart. Do not discriminate or take advantage over your clients. That will only shatter your good reputation. Remember, being a lawyer is all about good and positive reputation. It will be difficult to get clients without it.

At the end, I'd like to share cool website with more information on Immigration Lawyer and deportation lawyer. Visit for more details.
