Mesothelioma Victim Files Lawsuit

A couple living in Wisconsin filed an asbestos lawsuit against 31 defendant corporations after the husband was diagnosed with mesothelioma cancer. Amado Torres-Padron and Laurentina Torres filed the lawsuit Oct. 1, blaming the defendants for wrongful exposure to asbestos.

Wrongful Asbestos Exposure at Work

The lawsuit claims that Amado was wrongfully exposed to toxic asbestos fibers during his employment as a railroad worker, ranch hand and foundry worker throughout Texas, Illinois, Kansas and Wisconsin. His exposure allegedly took place between 1945 and the mid 1990s.

The couple is blaming the defendants for knowingly exposing Amado to asbestos, which led to the development of mesothelioma. The lawsuit states that Amado’s exposure to the deadly toxin was foreseeable by the defendant corporations and could have been prevented.

Couple Seeks Compensation for Damages

Amado and Laurentina are seeking financial compensation for past, present and future medical bills, including medication and mesothelioma treatments. They are also seeking compensation for lost wages and lost future financial support since, they claim, the cancer has disabled Amado from working.

And, in addition to economic damages, the family is also seeking compensation for emotional pain and suffering. The lawsuit is seeking sums in excess of $50,000, punitive and exemplary damages in excess of $100,000 and compensatory damages exceeding $50,000, to include attorney fees.
