Multiple Mesothelioma Cancer Lawsuits Initiated

Submitted by justice
Thu, 19 Feb 2009

On Sept. 4, a lawsuit was filed in Madison County by an Iowa couple who alleged that the wife’s mesothelioma cancer is due to secondary exposure to asbestos through her husband’s employment at Union Carbide. Their lawsuit states that Jerry Pettibone worked at Union Carbide from 1965 to 1986 and inadvertently brought home asbestos fibers on his work clothes, exposing his wife Leona to asbestos over a 20-year period.

Their eight-count lawsuit names 72 defendant companies and seeks a minimum of $150,000 in mesothelioma compensation and $100,000 in punitive/exemplary damages.

Asbestos Cancer Exposure on the Job

In another, eleven-count lawsuit, the mesothelioma cancer of John Michael is claimed to be due to asbestos exposure at his job that was foreseeable and preventable. The Sept. 3 lawsuit seeks compensatory, punitive and exemplary damages in the amount of $300,000 minimum.

Asbestos in the Navy, on the Railroad, at Aircraft Manufacturer

The third recent lawsuit was filed Sept. 3 by Carl Mortenson, an Oregon resident. He states that his diagnosis of mesothelioma cancer was caused by his asbestos exposure during his work for Southern Pacific Railroad, Northrop Grumman and the U.S. Navy.

Asbestos Cancer as a Laborer

A fourth lawsuit, filed Sept. 5, was initiated by Illinois resident Evelyn Rommerskirchen on behalf of her deceased husband David. He was exposed to asbestos while working as a laborer at multiple locations, for several companies. The lawsuit names 142 defendants.
