Accutane Lawsuit For IBD

Submitted by Gene Williams
Thu, 9 Sep 2010

Accutane side effects can be devastating for patients who have taken this medication in the past. They include some very painful and incurable conditions that affect the bowels. This drug was prescribed for the treatment of acne, both severe and mild cases, from 1982 until 2009. In 2009, it was withdrawn from the market by its manufacturer, La Roche, due to the many side effects associated with the disease. It has been used by 16 million people since it was introduced onto the market. It was marketed under several names other than Accutane, including Amnesteem, Sotret, Claravis and the generic name, Isotrentinoin.

Understanding Accutane Side Effects

Among the Accutane long term side effects that have resulted in lawsuits are the drug’s established connections with several types of inflammatory bowel disease. Accutane inflammatory bowel disease includes a couple of disorders that are lifelong maladies that most often require surgical interventions. The treatments can alleviate the symptoms, but none of these conditions are curable. They include Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, two of the most painful and potentially debilitating conditions anyone could suffer, both of which require expensive treatments.

Filing an Accutane Lawsuit for Crohn’s Disease

All of the lawsuits over Accutane involve the manufacturer not disclosing the risks associated with the drug. Accutane and Crohn’s disease are connected scientifically. This disease is devastating. It results in symptoms that encompass the entire body, from mouth to anus, and that oftentimes need to be treated with surgeries. They include the creation of fistulae, passages between the organs of the digestive system that are not natural and that pose a very real threat to the health of the affected. Filing an Accutane lawsuit over this disorder may net you enough money in settlements or in a jury award to pay for these treatments.

Accutane and Ulcerative Colitis

Another painful disorder of the bowels, ulcerative colitis is a lifelong condition that affects the tissues of the bowels specifically. It can cause severe problems with digestion and its symptoms can include a great deal of abdominal pain. This disease is not curable and, like Accutane Crohn’s disease, also requires that surgical interventions be used to treat the symptoms in some cases. This disorder invariably involves expensive doctor visits and treatments and, if you suffer this disease because of being treated with Accutane, you should contact a lawyer.

Accutane Long Term Side Effects: Legal Solutions

Accutane inflammatory bowel disease is not curable, in most cases. You can, however, seek a legal remedy for the pain and suffering you’ve endured.

There are lawyers who are willing to help you file an individual Accutane lawsuit or to participate in an Accutane class action lawsuit on a contingency basis. This means no upfront legal fees and that you can get the suit in court no matter how desperate your situation. Most of these attorneys also offer a free consultation, which is a great way to make sure that your Accutane lawsuit is likely to win if it goes to a jury trial.
