Whiplash is the most common injury from car accidents and yet is one which many of us are not taking sufficient measures to protect ourselves from. The measures which we can take to protect against whiplash are simple and effective, so there is no excuse for neglecting to take them.

Half of those affected by whiplash never recover from their injuries and many thousands of them could have avoided these debilitating injuries altogether had they followed simple advice.

A properly adjusted headrest in your car is the single most effective tool for preventing whiplash. Despite this, a massive eighty per cent of drivers do not have their headrests correctly adjusted.

And it seems we are no better at protecting our children either. While 97 per cent of parents believe that they are using child restraint systems correctly, 89 per cent of parents are not in actual fact using them properly.

High backed booster seats significantly reduce the risk of whiplash in children and provide enhanced safety levels in general for smaller passengers. Booster seats reduce the risk of injury by 70 per cent. However, only ten per cent of children who should be in a booster seat are in one.

With these simple measures being ignored many millions of drivers and their children are taking unnecessary risks when they venture out. Remember it only takes a low impact accident to cause whiplash.
