Whiplash is an injury to the spine caused by the straining of spinal tissue because of a jerking motion. It most commonly results from an auto accident but can also result from accidents in the house, such as a fall, or during sports. If you sustain such an injury, you need to consult a doctor immediately for the appropriate course of treatment. This is because, while it is not life threatening, a whiplash injury can lead to pain or other symptoms for years to come.

Research indicates that the driver of a car is more likely to suffer a whiplash injury, than the passengers. This is usually because drivers are much more likely to move around in the seat, as compared to the passengers.

Often, a whiplash injury is not taken seriously enough. Injured parties are, therefore, often reluctant to file whiplash claims. Also, many people are not sure about how they can go about claiming compensation. These are some things you need to know if you are considering filing whiplash claims:

• If you are considering filing a claim for personal injury compensation, you will need legal advice. Your first step should be to consult a legal professional who will help you to follow the required procedure to do so. Absence of proper guidance could result in an invalid claim.

• You may need to agree to a professional medical evaluation of your injury as part of the claim process.

• A no win no fee contract with your lawyer will ensure that you are not charged for the legal services, whether, or not, your whiplash claim is successful. All costs will be covered because, if you win the case, your lawyer will collect his fee from the opposing party.

• Often, whiplash claims cases are settled outside the court. But even in these cases, it may take some time for your claim to be processed. If you think you are entitled to compensation, you will need to be patient and determined.
