A family living in Boston celebrated, April 6, 2009, in court, as the 1990 wrongful death of Noemi Roman was brought to justice. Kurvin Richardson was found guilty of first degree murder and sentenced to life in prison.

Roman, who was 18 years old when she was killed, was a single mother living in Boston. Her son, who is now 20 years old, was found at the scene of the crime, lying next to his mother's dead body. Although he did not address Richardson in court, he told a Boston Globe reporter that he is relieved that his mother's killer has finally been brought to justice.

Family Spoke Out About Wrongful Death

Members of Roman's family addressed the court before Richardson's sentence was announced, including three of her sisters. All three sisters shared their memories of Roman and expressed their sadness for her wrongful death.
One sister told the court that Roman was studying to become a paralegal to fight on behalf of victims of domestic violence. She, according to her family and friends who spoke on her behalf, was full of passion and had potential to do great things.

Killer Knew Victim's Family

According to reports, Richardson was dating one of Roman's sisters at the time of the murder. Apparently, Roman openly opposed their relationship and spoke to members of her family about her disapproval. There is no evidence of a direct link between her opposition of their relationship and Richardson's decision to kill her, however.
Victim Was Beat and Stabbed to Death in Massachusetts Home

According to reports, Richardson stabbed and beat Roman until she died. His skin was found under her fingernails, leading to his conviction.
Although the family celebrated Richardson's convictions, they did express sadness for their loss. “Just because we have justice, the fact is that I still don't have a mother,'' said Roman's son, Sergio.
