Motorcycle accidents - ‘Sorry mate, I didn't see you' is no excuse

Each and every time any of us take to the road we share a duty of care to others. As convenient and as enjoyable as driving or taking a motorbike out is, it's also important to remember that when we're out there on the road it's absolutely vital that at all times we do everything in our power to make sure that we drive as safely and sensibly as possible. We naturally expect that same measure of responsibility and respect for our health and well being from others. In the same way that we wouldn't take out a damaged or defective vehicle or drive under the influence of alcohol or tired, we also need to exercise a responsible amount of attention to the road and vigilance.

Driving distractions

There are a million and one things that can distract a driver - the sun in your eyes, changing a CD or a radio station, a billboard, a fly in the car - you name it. Driving safely takes a great deal of concentration with the distractions, the lapses in concentration and interruptions all conspiring against you and not only your safety but also the safety of other road users. Whatever distractions you face when you're out on the road, whatever reason you may have for a momentary lapse in concentration or the need to take your eyes off the ball, none of them equates to an excuse if you cause an accident. A reason yes. An excuse, most certainly not.

Vulnerable

It doesn't take a genius to work out that as a motorbike rider if you tangle with a car that's pulled out in front of you or even glanced you as its overtaken without looking properly then you are going to come off worst.

Motorcyclists are particularly vulnerable. Not only are they more likely to suffer injury, but the injuries inflicted on them by careless drivers can often be much more serious and long lasting than a simple case of whiplash or a few bruises. It's always wise in the event of a serious injury to make sure you employ the services of a specialist injury lawyer. Someone who has the experience to deal with the many specific considerations that need to be taken in to account in the event of a bad bike injury. A specialist will realise that the victim may end up needing medical support for the rest of their life. They'll also understand that there are psychological consequences to a severe injury, as well as a host of financial considerations that need to be factored into the equation - for example, home modification or the purchase of specialist equipment.

Specialist support

If you've been in an accident suffering damage to your bike and personal injury to be greeted with that expression 'Sorry mate I didn't see you,' then know full well that you don't have to leave it at that. That you weren't seen implies a lack of concentration or, worse still, complacency. Use an experienced motor accident specialist to help you receive the proper compensation and medical support that you deserve.

Serious injury lawyers with unrivalled expertise. Specialist services for motorcycle accidents, brain injury brain injury head injury and spinal injury from the UK's leading specialised injury law practice.
