A man working at a printing company in Singapore has had his hand crushed in an industrial accident. The cause of the accident is as yet unexplained.

Mr Fadzil Ismail was doing maintenance work on a printing machine when his hand became trapped. The massive machine which is over 2 metres high and weighs over 200kg broke down, crushing his hand. He remained trapped in the machine for almost an hour.

Emergency services were called after his colleagues were unable to free Mr Ismail. Officers dismantled the machine and rushed Mr Ismail to hospital. His right hand was badly damaged around the palm area.

Details of how the machine came to break down and trap Mr Ismail while he was doing maintenance work remain unclear. A colleague who saw the accident recounts what he saw:

He was at the machine doing maintenance work but his hand was somehow caught. We tried to find the technician to free him." Said Lum Swee Hong, adding that Mr Ismail was conscious throughout the ordeal.

Mr Ismail is doing well recovering in hospital. The authorities are investigating what caused the accident and discussions of stricter safety measures at the factory where Mr Ismail was working are under way.
