Yamaha issued a recall of all Yamaha Rhino 450 and 660 model vehicles following 46 confirmed deaths and several other injuries related to the vehicles. The recalled Yamaha Rhino side-by-side ATVs have been linked to several injuries and deaths since it first hit the market in Fall 2003.

Recalled Yamaha Rhino ATVs Unsafe

According to reports, the Rhino 450 and 660 models have a high rate of vehicle rollover, even under normal operating conditions at low speeds. The Rhino rollover problems have been linked to poor design.

More Than 200 Yamaha Rhino Lawsuits Filed

Since the Rhino hit the market in 2003, there have been approximately 200 lawsuits filed against Yamaha Motor Corp. USA for serious rollover injuries and deaths. To date, 46 confirmed deaths have been directly linked to the faulty ATVs.

CPSC Investigates Defective Yamaha Rhinos

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission began investigating the ATVs' rollover issues after nearly 200 lawsuits were filed in November 2008. After an in depth investigation involving more than 50 Yamaha Rhino accidents the CPSC advised Yamaha to suspend sales and recall the defective ATVs. In cooperation with the CPSC, Yamaha has agreed to not only suspend sales and recall more than 120,000 Yamaha Rhinos, but also to repair all the defective ATVs.

The Yamaha Rhino recall also advises all consumers who purchased a Rhino 450 or 660 since 2003 to stop use immediately and contact a dealer for free repairs.
Yamaha is also giving out free helmets to old and new Rhino owners to increase safety.
