When should i begin making a WillSubmitted by markhincks@live.com Tue, 23 Jun 2009
I have sat down on many occasion to begin making a will but i very rarely get past the first couple of paragraphs of the process. So i ask myself why is making a will so difficlult? Getting motivated may be one reason, it's one of those things that makes you think, i leave it till later, time is definitely another and when it comes to making a will I always seem to hesitate about exactly what I should do or leave and for whom. I am single, i am longer married so making a will doesn't seem to carry the same urgency as if i were married and had children etc However, I know that after divorce you should definitely make a will that covers your single situation.
When making a will as a single person I have began with "What don't I want to happen?" - OK, I get on alright with the ex but I definitely do not want her to get benefit from my Will. Fortunately we do not have any kids so I haven't got to worry about how I take care of them in making a will this time. But although I get on with my ex-wife we no longer have anything left to share and in a few years time she may be re-married and so may I. That always makes me ask the question should I wait until I re-marry before making a will again. What have i got to distribute to others now in my current situation? I do not own any property as I now rent out, but I do own my car..well that's not true the bank own the car but if I die the outstanding loan will be repaid by the life cover I took out. So as I start making a will for the umpteenth time I guess there might be few things I might have in my single estate that I should think about leaving to someone.
I have a blog which highlights the importance of Will writing and covers the reasons as to why one should write a Will. It was stated that over 70% of the UK population do not have a Will, therefore i set out to create a source of information online to assist those that do not have a Will and point the reasons as to why you should write a Will.
