If your cholesterol reading is above 200mg/dl then you will be advised to try to reduce cholesterol in the body. High cholesterol can lead to a range of health problems that can ultimately lead to heart failure or a stroke. Also, because the complications of cholesterol tend to creep up on a person, it is far more prudent to prevent the level from rising rather than trying some fast acting cure. This article will discuss how to reduce cholesterol as a way of preventing heart disease and other related problems.

Reducing cholesterol is actually quite simple in the early stages. It is a case of taking on regular exercise and changing your eating habits. In effect, changing your lifestyle.

Exercise works on two levels. It helps to burn off the food that you eat each day thus preventing weight gain. Also by being active, you are not only working the leg or arm muscles but all parts of the body. This includes the cardiovascular, immune and digestive systems. In terms of the cardiovascular system, this will help blood circulate through the system and reduce the chances of LDL cholesterol sticking to the artery walls.

There is no need to be drastic in this when it comes to exercise. Consult your doctor before hand and establish a good starting point for your exercise routine. This might be a half hour walk each day. As you get used to the exercise, you can push this out to one hour or you can take on more strenuous activities. You could start playing tennis, squash or go to the gym. The important part is to be consistent and stick to the routine.

Changing your diet involves reducing your intake of fatty foods and animal products. If you are overweight it may also include reducing your calorific intake.

You want to avoid saturated and trans fats. Saturated fats are things like butter, lard, cream and cheese. Trans fats are another name for hydrogenated vegetable oil. This is vegetable oil that has hydrogen injected into it. It produces a product that is cheap to make and is a useful flavor enhancer and preservative for the food industry. Trans fats are used in cakes, biscuits and many other processed foods. Both saturated and trans fats raise the level of LDL cholesterol in the body.

Avoid fatty meats and dairy products. These types of food increase the level of LDL cholesterol in the body. Cut off excess fat and skin in chicken. Use low fat alternatives for things like milk, coconut milk, cream and cheese.

Eat fresh produce. Try to eat as much fresh fruit and vegetables as possible. They act as fiber and can improve the efficiency of excreting cholesterol from the body. Whole grain foods have a similar effect as fresh fruit and vegetables. Whole grain foods are things like porridge, muesli, some breakfast cereals and brown rice.

Eat products with plant sterols in. It has been proved that plant sterol reduces the absorption of cholesterol into the body. Plant sterols are artificially added to products like margarines, spreads and yogurts.

Stop smoking. Smoking lowers the amount of HDL cholesterol in the body and binds carbon monoxide with red blood cells when they should be binding with oxygen. HDL cholesterol is known as good cholesterol because it transports cholesterol out of the body.

--
Reducing your trans fats intake can reduce overall cholesterol levels.
Picking The Best Ski Equipment For Your Vacation

Skiing vacations are unlike many other vacations in that you need a good deal of equipment and gear in order to enjoy and have a successful time. This article will run through the key equipment that you will need so that it all goes well and you can't wait for the next winter to go on another ski trip.

It goes without saying that you need a pair of skis. A pair of skis can be broken down into three components – the skis themselves, the bindings and the boots. It is an impossible task to buy a pair of skis if you have never tried skiing before. My advice would be to hire the skis for your first trip. If you like skiing and think that you will be skiing for many years to come then it makes sense to buy a pair. However for the first trip, if you rent you will get your first insight into what to look for in a pair of skis, the bindings and a pair of boots.

Ski's vary in terms of length and width. They vary in terms of shape and look. What all these qualities are catering for are the size of the skier, the skill level of the skier and the types of terrain that they want to ski on. In terms of looks, this is appealing to the potential buyers sense of style and has nothing to do with the performance of the skis, unless go faster strips really do make things go faster !

Hiring skis will help you understand the type of ski that fits your size and weight. Carving skis are the most popular type of ski design at the moment. They have a curve along the sides of the skis, starting from the middle (or waist) extending to the tip and tail of the ski. The difference in length of the width of the tip/tail to the waist is known as the sidecut. The greater this length the easier it is to do carving turns. Other designs, without the sidecut may be used for off piste skiing.

Ski bindings generally come with the skis. If they don't it is advisable to use the same brand of bindings as the ski brand. If the ski brand doesn't make a binding then they will endorse a brand of binding for their ski. It's always best to go with this advice. Bindings are designed to release the boot whenever there is a change in weight on the ski. This can prevent ankle and knee injuries.

Boots must fit your foot snugly. You should test them out by leaning forward. Make sure the foot doesn't slip or move when you do this. Most boots are plastic and can be adjusted around the foot, ankle and calf. They should be tight fitting around the top of the calf to prevent snow getting into the boot.

After that you need some poles. There is not much too selecting poles. You must consider the weight and length of the poles. They shouldn't be heavy for you (most aren't so this shouldn't be a problem). In terms of size, the standard advice is to hold the pole by the pointy end with the grips touching the floor. If your arms are parallel to the ground when you do this then the poles are the right size for you.

Goggles or sunglasses are also essential for skiing. Goggles provide the best protection in all conditions but may be bulky for some people. Start off with sunglasses as most people have a pair.

--
For the latest on resort news, skiing and snowboarding tips and reviews of equipment and gear then visit http://www.snowboardnskiing.com .
Without doubt the kitchen is one of the most heavily used rooms in the the home. You probably prepare and cook food there but you may also do a host of other things that could damage, stain or wear out the flooring of your kitchen. For instance you may have your washing machine in the kitchen so that water may get on the floor. Maybe you feed your pets in the kitchen. Maybe you have a breakfast bar or table in the kitchen where you take breakfast each morning. This all adds up to wear and tear over the years. Thus kitchens have traditionally used durable flooring materials like stone or replaceable materials like linoleum. A new material that ticks both of these boxes is vinyl plank flooring. This article will discuss some of the benefits of using vinyl plank flooring in your kitchen.

Vinyl plank flooring is an increasingly popular alternative for durable, easy to install flooring for professional house builders and home renovators alike. Part of the reason for this is that it has all the qualities that rooms like the kitchen need and it is reasonably priced by comparison to other materials.

The first quality worth pointing out is the resilience of the material. It is renowned for it's spring back ability. Thus if heavy objects like kitchen white goods have been placed on it for any length of time the flooring will not look buckled or bumpy when the appliance is moved. This helps to keep the kitchen looking new should you decide to change the layout of the kitchen.

Another quality of vinyl plank flooring is that it doesn't absorb liquid or stains. It is treated to be liquid resistant. So if you were to drop a plate of food on the floor accidentally it would be relatively straightforward to clean it up without worrying about ruining the floor. Simply clear away the food and wipe the floor clean. No marks or stains would result and the flooring would look as before. This is a great time saver in accidental situation like the one above but also helps to keep the time to maintenance the kitchen to a minimum. There is no meed for floor polish or waxes. A simple broom and mop will do the job and keep your flooring looking clean.

Vinyl plank flooring is noted for it's durability. It will last the lifetime of the kitchen and outlast many of the white goods and appliances that may populate your kitchen. If anything you will probably outgrow the flooring style before it actually wears out. So if you don't want to be changing your kitchen flooring because it is looking worn out or stained then vinyl plank flooring is a good option to go for and represents a good return on your money. The flooring is also easy to maintain in order to prolong the life of the flooring. Simply clean the surface and that's it.

Another positive of vinyl flooring is that it can be made to look like other materials. Only by touching the surface will you realize that it is actually vinyl and not marble or some kind of hard wood. It can even be made to look like an elaborately patterned tiling can be made to look like many other more exotic materials like marble and certain wood types. Given that it will be considerably less than than marble in terms of cost, this could be an option for someone that wants the look of luxury without the price.

--
If you want to breathe new life into your home then visit http://www.finehomeideas.com .
A Common Physical Symptom of Stress

Stress seems to be a common side affect of a fast paced, modern lifestyle. Indeed many people claim stress as the cause of many illnesses and problems that lead to time off work. There are various physical symptoms of stress that can affect our lives, one of these is the inability to have a good night's sleep.

This is commonly known as insomnia and follows a predictable pattern. A person will find it difficult to fall asleep, they will never sleep deeply and will wake throughout the night or they will waken earlier than is needed and never get a restful sleep. Once awake they will ruminate on the problems of their day which can lead to feelings of depression and ultimately tiredness. Apart form needing sleep to rejuvenate and refresh the body each day, it is effectively a reset button for all our worries and concerns during the day. Without sleep these problems compound on each other increasing the level on stress on the person.

Of course not everybody suffers from insomnia and it is normal to occasionally wake in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom or get a glass of water. Most people in this situation would promptly fall back to a deep, restful sleep soon after their head hits the pillow. They will not be burdened by the conversations and events of the day just passed and immediately pass into a dream state.

For anyone that has suffered from insomnia, it is obvious that a solution has to be found to the inability to sleep or it will lead to problems in daily life. There seems to be two ways to go about this.

The first is to tackle the issues that are causing the stress. This is the best solution but is also the most difficult. In some cases the thing that is causing the stress is impossible to prevent. It may be a stressful job but you need the income to support your family. Ultimately if something is causing you chronic stress you need to find a solution to deal with this problem. This may mean finding a new job or working less hours and starting a part time business to gain income. Whatever the solution, it will probably not be a quick fix so other solutions to insomnia have to be found in the short term.

These solutions revolve around helping you switch off from the days events and preparing you for sleep. Common ways to do this are with music and audio CD's. The CD's may have calming or ambient music that helps you to relax. It may also have subliminal audio that encourages you to feel relaxed or sleepy.

Another way to switch off the thoughts that can keep you from a restful sleep is to exercise. Ideally you want to do this on a daily basis or once every few days. Exercise gives you body an outlet for all the stress hormones that may be circulating in your body. They also help to take the focus off all the worrying thoughts that you may have. They may naturally tire you out which will promote a proper sleep.

Another idea that many people do to relax themselves and switch off from the days events is to read a book before they go to sleep. Ideally a fiction book as this will take you into another world away from your problems. One chapter a night could be highly effective.

--
For more tips on dealing with stress, visit http://www.stressmanagementreview.com .
Do You Need An HDTV Antenna ?

Are you thinking about getting a High definition TV (HDTV). Possibly you have already thought about getting an LCD or plasma and have worked out the pros and cons of each. Perhaps you are still thinking about getting an HDTV. The truth is that the technology has come on in leaps and bounds recently. You can get incredible picture resolution and fantastic sound quality. This is also true of the prices for these appliances. They have steadily dropped to the stage where a good HDTV is within the reach of most families. One draw back recently, however, was that many television stations didn't broadcast in the high definition format. This is also changing as you may notice next time to watch your favorite program. You may notice a small logo at the beginning of the program indicating HD format. Whilst this is all well and good, none of this will be of any use if you don't have an HDTV antenna. Surprisingly this is something that many people overlook in the excitement of getting a new television. This article will explain what it does and doesn't do and why you need one.

So what is an HD antenna ? Well, it simply allows you to receive High definition television signals from TV stations.

To begin with, you don't need an HD antenna to watch High definition discs or blue ray discs. Like an ordinary antenna, it is only needed to pick up broadcast signals. Another point is that unless your television has an inbuilt high definition tuner the antenna will be useless. Modern TV's will have the tuner in but older versions will require an external tuner. This is sometimes referred to as a set top box and is quite cheap to pick up.

The antenna come in two forms – indoor and outdoor. Indoor antennas are made more for convenience than functionality. It is aimed at people that live in accommodation that doesn't have any external land to install an antenna. This might include apartment buildings or rented houses where the landlord isn't keen to have a large antenna attached to the house. The major advantage of this type of antenna is that it is easy to install but it is seriously limited in range. Having said this, if you live in the middle of a large city center then you will have no problems with such a device.

A modification is known as an amplified indoor HDTV antenna. This has an improved gain which means that it has a longer range but this range is narrower. So you will have to point the antenna in a particular direction, this may be very specific but you will be able to pick up signals over a greater distance.

An HDTV outdoor antenna gives the best range and flexibility. They are rated by size and directivity. Omni-directional antennas will receive signals from many directions. Directional antennas are similar to amplified indoor antennas in that they have a greater range of reception but have to be moved into the path of the signal to receive it.

By far, the outdoor HD antenna is the more powerful of the two. It is also more expensive and harder to install. The indoor variety is made for convenience but will work fine in built up areas where the TV signals are good.

--
Find reviews on the latest home theater components, including Home theater speaker systems at http://www.hometheaterreviewed.com .
Diet For Diabetes – What's A Good Diabetic Diet Plan

Diabetes is an increasingly prevalent disease in modern times and has been dubbed an epidemic by the World Health Organization (WHO). Although it is still unknown why the disease has increased so much recently, it is known how the disease occurs. It is caused by a malfunction of the beta cells that are located in the pancreas. The beta cells produce a hormone, known as insulin, that helps to reduce the blood sugar level in the body. When a person has diabetes the beta cells are destroyed or the body has an inability to use insulin properly. Many people have this disease but are unaware of the fact. Many people that have it and are aware often mismanagement the treatment of the disease. This can lead to many problems. Immediate problems can include diabetic induced coma. In the long term there can be problems with the circulation, nervous and cardiovascular systems within the body. Part of the treatment of diabetes is by eating the proper foods and sticking to a diabetic diet. This article will discuss the issues involved with a diet for diabetes.

Carbohydrates make up a large part of many peoples diets because they provide energy, in the form of glucose, to the body. However too many carbohydrates will cause the blood sugar levels in a diabetic to get high and cause problems. Thus a diet for diabetes involves understanding how carbohydrates work. Much emphasis in a diabetic diet is on the amount of carbohydrates and calories that are consumed at each sitting.

Simply put, simple carbohydrates should be avoided or consumed as a treat or in an emergency. Simple carbohydrates include things like soft drinks, chocolate and sweets and candy. They are called simple because they are easy to break down in the body and get into the bloodstream quickly. This is why many people think that sweet foods are bad for diabetics. To an extent they are because they cause spikes in the blood sugar level but this too can be managed and at times (like hypoglycemia) an intake of sugar is needed.

The opposite of simple carbohydrates and complex carbohydrates. They are things like rolled oats that are harder to breakdown and let sugar into the bloodstream at a slower rate. Because of the slow breakdown, the blood sugar level is easier to manage which is the desired affect of any diabetic treatment.

Apart from watching the type of carbohydrates that are consumed, a diet for diabetes is a very healthy option that can benefit anyone. In fact, it is often the case that if one family member has diabetes the whole family can benefit form the types of foods that they eat which is an unlikely positive by product of the disease. The diet concentrates on eating fruits, vegetables and whole grains. The choices of foods are not limited and a person can follow the diabetic food pyramid for guidance. The food pyramid breaks foodstuffs down into carbohydrates, proteins and fats. It gives suggestions on the types of foods that fit into these categories and the amounts of each to be consumed each day. A diabetic diet also stresses the times that a person eats. They should always each at similar times each day and take a regular snack in between main meals.

A diet for diabetes will help you to manage your insulin levels and lower the risk of suffering from long term diabetic complications.

--
Learn more about diabetic diet plans at http://www.diabeticdietsplan.com .
Potty Training A Puppy

One of the first things you will need to do after giving your new puppy lots of love and affection is to train it to go to the toilet in the right place. This can often be problematic, just like it can be difficult to educate a child. It is important however that the puppy learns this as quickly as possible to avoid getting told off all the time. This article will give you some ideas on how to potty train your puppy effectively so that it knows where to go to the toilet and that inside the house is not the right place. Most dogs identify the house as their home pretty quickly and will naturally go outside when nature calls.

The first thing to understand is that dogs are fairly predictable after eating some food. They will want to poop about 15 - 20 after finishing. This means that a few minutes after the puppy has finished eating you should take it outside. Let it wander around and eventually it will want to poop. After you have done this a few times the penny will drop and the dog will start to whine if it is inside and wants to go to the toilet. You may find that watching your puppy all the time will be difficult but you should spend as much time with a new puppy at the beginning to help it to settle. If you have a family then maybe you could take turns at looking after the puppy.

Puppies will also want to go to the toilet when they wake up, when it leaves it's crate or box and after snacks or drinking water. As you can imagine, it could be a full time job monitoring your puppy for all these occasions. That is why you should take turns with other family members if possible.

If you want your puppy to poop in a certain place then always take it to that place around the time it is likely to want to poop. Another method that works is to get it to poop on a piece of newspaper. This can be used in the house to avoid messing up the carpet or floor and at night times when the dog is alone. Place the paper in a corner of the room where the puppy is staying. Encourage it to go to the toilet on the paper when you see it arching it's back or making motions to go to the toilet. Once it has identified the paper as the place to do these things you can use a piece of paper to educate the puppy about a special place in the back garden or wherever. This will make your life easier when the puppy becomes older and doesn't litter your yard with excrement.

Potty training a puppy is one of the first things you will need to do to socialize your dog. There will be many other things it will have to learn so that it can be a coveted and useful member of the family. Learning potty training will set it off on the right path for future learning and good behavior.

--
You can teach your dog how to behave properly by reading the tips at http://www.doghealthncare.com .
If you have a home renovation or remodeling project planned for this year and it involves replacing the floor then you need to consider a number of factors to ensure that the project will be a success. This article will discuss some of the issues you should consider in respect to the flooring products you use.

First of all, what room are you renovating ? If you are renovating common rooms like the kitchen, bathroom and lounge/living room areas then you may need different materials to say a personal bedroom. If it is a bedroom there is more chance that you will use carpeting. The color and fabric might be the choice of the owner of the room but you should also think about things like allergies and asthma. If any of your family are susceptible to these types of ailments then select the fabric carefully. Carpets are comfortable breeding grounds for dust mites and hides dust and particles in the fabric. Of course bedrooms don't have to have carpeting and modern rooms now have laminate flooring or even tiling in warmer climates. This might be an option for you in these cases but not everyone likes a hard floor in their bedroom.

In terms of the kitchen and bathroom, if you are replacing the floor then you need something that is hard wearing and easy to clean. These two rooms are some of the most trafficked and busy rooms in the home. Lots of people will be spending time in them and they will get dirty and need regular cleaning. Traditionally, people have gone for tiling or even vinyl flooring in these rooms. Tiling is the more expensive option and can give a distinctive look to each room. It will last longer than most vinyl materials. Vinyl materials are good because they come in a large variety of designs and are relatively inexpensive. If the vinyl is the roll type then they are very easy to replace and you can replace them every few years if needs be.

There are a number of recycled flooring products available now that can be cheaper than new products. These include recycled glass bottles that are turned into tiling. These are used in bathrooms but can also be used in kitchens. Metal products are also recycled into tiling and produces a unique looking tile. It is more for affect than practicality. Rubber flooring is also created from old tires. This type of flooring is really used for industrial premises or maybe the garage area or utility room.

The key to any successful home renovation project is the budget. Make a good assessment of the type of labor and materials you will need. Divide each up to get a rough figure of how much you can spend. In the case of the labor put another 20% on top because it always seems to take a bit longer. Once you have a figure for the amount of money you can spend on the flooring then stick to it. This will ensure the project runs smoothly to the end and is completed. If you are buying tiling for the floors you also need to get a few extra tiles because some will get cracked and some will have to be cut to fit into awkward spaces.

--
If you want to breathe new life into your home then visit http://www.finehomeideas.com .
There is really nothing more indulgent these days than having your own home theater system. I say indulgent, but the reality is that you can pick up some really good systems that won't cost a fortune. Thus the equipment is affordable but the décor and the furnishings are where you can really let your imagination run wild and create your own cinema at home. This article will discuss some of the things you can look into when creating your own home cinema experience with reference to the home theater decor.

I think home theater décor is determined by how much room you have. If you have the luxury to have a separate room for your home theater then you can go to town on the decor. You can create your own little cinema that includes all the thing that you associate with the multiplex cinemas that you find in town.

However most people don't have this room and have to fit the system into their lounge area. Thus the room has to function as a comfortable living room and a place to view movies. In this respect you need to be able to adapt the theater system to the existing furniture. Position it so that the most comfortable and popular seats have a good view of the screen. Place the speakers so that these seats get the best surround sound effects. Other seating can be moved to the home theater display unit when an if needed (If you have friends or family round).

If you have a separate room or decide to lean more towards creating a home cinema in you lounge then you can really start thinking about home theater decor. Home theater decor is essentially the different furniture and accents that you include in your home theater system design. There is a huge variety of ideas to choose from when doing this.

The first thing to think about is the seating. Most people go for home theater recliners theses days. They are large armchair type seating that is similar to the seat you will find in a proper cinema. They may have places to store your drinks and a footrest that can be extended to let you recline as you watch the movies. They come in all shapes and sizes and some will seat two people if you want a slightly more romantic viewing experience.

Of course these are not the ultimate in home theater seating. The latest seating that can make the viewing experience even more realistic are seats that vibrate or move based on certain sounds or movements in the movie. These are really great seats but cost a lot of money at present. Thus if you are watching a car chase and the rear end of the car skids out you may feel the chair fall back or shake at the back. The sound of screeching tires will be heard from the rear too and make the experience feel real.

Lighting is important in your home theater from aesthetic and practical viewpoints. The lighting should be positioned so that it does not interfere with the screen but is bright enough to let you move without bumping into things. In this respect a dimmer switch makes a lot of sense because you can control the amount of light at any moment. This is much like the lighting at the cinema, if you have noticed how the lights can be bright when there is an intermission, get a bit dimmer during the commercials and coming attractions and dim further when the movie starts.

There is no limit to the amount and styles of home theater décor that you can put in your home cinema. In fact, in practical terms, the only limits are the space and the amount of money you have to spend on the items.

--
Find reviews on the latest home theater components, including Home theater projectors at http://www.hometheaterreviewed.com .
