The last few decades our world changed dramatically. Technology really came to the forefront and nowadays almost everyone is in some way connected via technological changes. The internet really changed the world and one of the big opportunities that came with the impact of the internet is affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing, also called online marketing, is nothing new having started in the early 1990. For years the real opportunity of online marketing was not always realized, but things has really changed the last few years.

I have been making money online for little over a year now. For every successful sale via the special link, the merchant will pay the online marketer a certain amount or percentage of the sale. In some way it is a win-win situation. The merchant only pays for successful sales (after he made his profit) and the marketer gets paid simply by promoting a product or service.

It is actually extremely simple and easy to learn the basics. It does require some hard work, as does any business, but the earning potential is quite great. Some has become millionaires and do this as a full time job. How much will you make? It depends: It is an extremely satisfying experience making $5000 a month simply advertising products. I do not make this much every month (hopefully I will some day) but it was my best month during my first year of online marketing. Mostly I make an average of about $500 per month, which is quite nice spending money.

I do not think it is possible to become a millionaire overnight. It is possible to make thousands of dollars a day, and a lot of internet marketers do. One of the first things a newbie asks is: "Which program is the best?" Although some are better than others, I believe that it depends on you. We all differ according to our abilities, beliefs and dreams. A program that made me thousands will not automatically guarantee you the same results. To many newbies try to find that perfect product or business that will make them millionaires, but to become a millionaire you need to work hard and work smart.

When I started out I tried almost every program that promises money. Some did make me money, most cost me more than I made. Can I really make money online? This is the one question asked by every newbie starting out in internet marketing. Of course, it is not always complete newbies that asks this question; sometimes people has been trying to make money for quite some time, and in the end lost interest since they were not able to make money.

The biggest reason, I believe, why so many people fail in internet marketing is KNOWLEDGE. Nobody will start an auto repair shop dreaming of making millions is they know absolutely nothing about servicing an automobile. But so many people read about making money on the internet and dive in immediately, dreaming of making millions for little or no effort. This is absolutely ridiculous.

Making money online is a real possibility, as is running a successful auto repair shop. But jumping in without the necessary knowledge will lead you to failure. Simply reading about other people success will certainly not guarantee the same success for you. Most of these people worked hard to achieve their success.

Starting out by learning as much as possible before venturing into this lucrative business is the best way to go. Luckily there is a lot of help out there. Some of the help is free, but mostly you must spend some money to get good information to help you start you own very successful online business.

I became an affiliate marketer by dreaming of improving my life. It happened one day while I was surfing the net and I stumbled upon the idea of making money on the internet. At first I thought it was just another scam (and as I found out there are a few scams out there), but it intrigued me enough to buy my first e-book. I was hooked and immediately dreamed about thousands of dollars rolling in week after week, while I do nothing but count the money and thinking of ways to spend it. The thought of passive income fattening my bank balance while I do nothing was like a drug to me. I jumped on every chance I found, every promise made and spend quite a sum of money to make myself a millionaire. A few weeks and I were depressed and quite poorer. I just couldn't understand what went wrong with this dream. The gurus made it sound so easy, so quick, but I found it was not so easy, or quick.
Making money on the internet is actually quite simple, even easy, as long as you do not equate easy with effortless. It is easier making money on the internet than say opening a shop somewhere, but both require time and effort to succeed. This I learned the hard way. Riding a bike is easy, but first you have to master the ability to balance the bike while moving. When I first realized that I am not making money at all, I thought that my impressing was correct and that affiliate marketing is just another scam, but after looking honestly at the process I went through, I realized that the problem was not affiliate marketing, but I. I thought that I would become a millionaire simply by buying a few e-books, setting up a website and plugging some Adsense code into it. I thought that Adwords was this miracle ATM that would pour money into my account while I just sat back doing nothing. It did not turn out that way in the beginning.
I took a hard look at myself and realized that to be successful in online marketing you need to master some abilities and show certain attributes. Luckily most people already have these as standard, but you must realize that it is needed.
1. You need to be willing to learn. Being successful in internet marketing is a skill that must be mastered. Some people have a natural tendency to excel in this, but most of us will need to learn how to use the different tools and products available to achieve success.
2. You will need to be patient. Some programs do promise success in a very short time, but I believe those who do achieve this are lucky, or at best the exception. Most new affiliate marketers will have to work hard and wait before the money start rolling in. If you are not prepared for this, you will disheartened and quit too soon.
3. You need to be disciplined and keep at it. Working consistently a few minutes everyday will reap rewards in the long run. There is a lot to master and learn about this business. Taking it one bite at a time in a disciplined manner is the only way to achieve success.
4. You will need to desire success if you are going to be successful. If you are not determined to succeed, you will not. Struggling through the doubts and the, sometimes, time-consuming repetitive processes you will need the desire to keep at it. Success is found at the other side of this tunnel.

If you have these you will succeed. There are the few who will step in and immediately make money, and I hope you are one of them. I was not and if you are not one of the select few, do not give up. Stay positive and work hard at your dream… and it can come true. You can make money online as an affiliate marketer.

You advertise some product and get a nice percentage of the sale kicked back to you. Well, in theory that is easy, but unfortunately it is not always so easy like most things in life. The problem is not advertising the product, that is very easy… the problem is getting people to visit is more difficult. Of course there are a lot of options to get traffic to your site, but usually it cost money, making it more difficult to be profitable as an affiliate marketer. Luckily there are a few free options available to help you increase traffic to your site without costing money. Of course these methods do take a bit more time, but in the end it can be worth it.
Some of the best methods is to let other people know about your site and hope they visit you. Here are three of the best, proven methods for improving traffic to your site.
Write Articles and publish to Online Directories
This probably one of the best ways to improve traffic to your site, although I have experienced it is not one of the easiest or fastest ways. Writing articles and publishing them to the different Online Directories take time. Yes, there is people advertising, and claiming, that it is very easy and quick, but how good can the articles be if you churn out 50 a day? Writing a good quality article takes time. And this is maybe the biggest secret: in the long run good articles will improve your web presence more than a lot of quick, badly written ones. Each Online Directory has its own criteria for judging an article before publishing it. Some people write articles and make use of special software to publish their articles to thousands of publishers. I found that submitting to about 5 or 6 high quality online directories is worth far more in the long run. This is probably one of the best ways to build good, solid traffic to your site.
Add Signatures to your Email.
This is so easy it is almost laughable. How many emails do you send out daily? Why not add a short signature to every email you sent out? That way you reach a lot of people easily. This will probably not give you millions of visitors, but still every visitor is good. Just be careful before adding this to the email account of the company you work for… it can land you in hot water. But use your personal email account freely and regularly. If you are able to add your info and link in HTML format the person can simply click the link to reach your website, making things much easier.
Post at forums
Some forums allow you to add URL links in your profile. This is a very good way to place your website out there. Just make sure that the forum's rules allow this since you can be banned on certain forums. Do not post just to advertise though. If your posts are good you will gain the trust of other members on the forum, which will really improve the chances that people will follow your link. So join some forums and get posting.
As you can see it does not take money to improve traffic to your site, but it does take some patience and a little bit of work on your site. So you are still new to the idea of making money online as an affiliate. Maybe you have a few doubts; wondering if this is really as easy as they say. This is a good start for success. Google Knock Me Almost Senseless... then I struck Back

It felt as if Google had beaten me senseless, and almost penniless. Well, not really penniless, but I wasted quite some money on Google Adwords. In a short time Adwords gobbled up a big chunk of the budget I saved up to use for targeted traffic to my site. I got traffic, but at I made no money. It was quite demoralizing to see my account at Adwords dwindle while my Clickbank revenue remained static.
Then I stumbled upon a book called Beating Adwords. It intrigued me, since it felt as if the only one who made money was Google, and I felt beaten. It was one of the best books I ever bought. It was a bit expensive, especially for someone who already went way over budget, but I am glad I took the chance. This book I written by two very experienced online Marketers and I learned from them some of the best techniques to improve my Adwords campaigns. Yes, they still cost money, but after following the advice in Beating Adwords, I started making money again. What a wonderful feeling to see my Clickbank revenue climbing faster than my Google Adwords account can fall. Beating Adwords gave me the power to fight back and for the first time in quite some time it feels as if I am winning this fight again.
