Whether or not Freud was right with the idea that bad experiences during potty training can adversely affect a person's development, conventional wisdom still seems to think there is some merit in the notion.

Most folks today believe the best approach to potty training your child is to use consistent training with positive reinforcement. This school of thought is probably of the "if it doesn't help, it can't hurt" variety. This means you cannot get angry when your little boy or girl has accidents. (And believe me, there will be many accidents.)

So with a general approach to potty training in mind, it helps to look into some of the more specific aspects of this critical time in your child's development.

When to start

In general, it's a great idea for the parent to introduce the idea of potty training to a child around 18 months. You shouldn't actually begin the process of potty training until your child is ready for it, as this will avoid frustration on the part of both the child and the parent (see the comment on Freud above).

Experts say a good approach to toilet training is simply to put a potty chair in the bathroom when the child is around 18 months old. That way, the child can get used to it being there without having to use it immediately. Allowing the child to understand and digest (no pun intended, honestly) the idea of potty training before having to put it into practice gives him time to become comfortable with the process and also either the potty chair or the toilet itself.

Potty Training Equipment

Most of the big players in the diaper game have developed disposable training pants to ease the transition from diapers to underwear throughout the potty training process. But many parents have reported that these types of "safety net" undergarments have actually prolonged the process of potty training. So while the diaper manufacturers would hate to hear it, you're better off without these disposable training pants. If your little boy or girl has problems with accidents at night, you can buy wet pads or diaper pads for far less than those specialized "training pants."

Instead, use the money you save on a potty chair that your child will use. Many children are intimidated by the size, shape, or even the sound of a normal toilet, but a potty chair that is scaled down to toddler-size can be much less intimidating. Potty chairs can function as temporary toilets until the child is ready to use the regular toilet.

Once they are ready to use the grown-up's toilet full-time, a small stepstool and even a children's toilet seat cover that fits over the regular toilet seat will make going to the bathroom an easy and eventually mundane task for your child.

Other Potty Training Tips

Many parents with multiple children find that older sibling can be a tremendous help while potty training the younger child. When the younger one sees the older one is able to use the toilet by himself, this will motivate the younger one to imitate the action.

However, the older sibling himself had to be potty trained somehow, and this is where potty training books and DVD's can help. Products like these will take the guesswork out of communicating all the bathroom why's and how's; moreover, they try to make the potty seem fun so that it's less intimidating to little ones.

--
- Baby Center

Potty Seats

Potty Training Accessories

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

For small businesses, working with OS-native print spoolers can be an annoyance, if still a necessary evil, even when they are using just one or two operating systems in their operation. But many large, multinational organizations face even greater problems with enterprise printing since typical growth through acquisition models do not tend to nurture uniformity in hardware, let alone operations.

This lack of uniformity in hardware is magnified when one considers operating across a number of continents using array of different operating systems and servers. In cases such as this, relying on print spoolers native to each operating system can quickly devolve local operations into a state of persistent inefficiency. These localized inefficiencies, when aggregated across global operations, can evince a waste of resources that's on a--well, a global level.

The difficulty in finding a solution to systemic waste due to sub-par print management is finding one that functions across all employed operating systems and that can be easily (and concurrently) implemented on a global level.

Global Print Management

Third-party print management software is often successfully implemented by companies operating only on a local or even a national level. But international companies who have grown through acquiring other companies often can experience global-level growing pains.

For instance, if a company uses multiple versions of UNIX, print managing software would need to be able to interface with applications specific to each operating system, not to mention compatibility with each version of UNIX.

Even within the family of UNIX operating systems, each version of these different operating systems handles printer device setup and print queue management with its own flavor of administration tools. These tools, of course, are all based on the -lp ("line print") print utility developed over 35 years ago, when the term "line printer" had not yet developed the anachronistic charm some find in it today. These -lp tools lack intuitiveness and are not robust.

Using these tools across different UNIX versions employed by an enterprise would result in confusion and complexity in IT staff response to help desk calls. If the volume of print management help calls increases high enough, this increased volume can bog down IT support staff and possibly even debilitate production volume, customer service, or delivery of goods or services.

In addition to the challenges a company faces with comparable print infrastructure management, regional IT managers often may request the ability to setup and manage their own print queues and devices worldwide. Thus, global print management should be enhanced and standardized. Thus, a consistent, common print management system, across all platforms, would be required if IT managers are allowed to set up their own print queues without having to be trained on multiple UNIX systems' tools.

A print management solution such as Plus Technologies' OM Plus print management system would meet the requirements of flexibility and consistency. Upon the successful completion of a pilot run on a single server platform, OM Plus could be rolled out multiple servers. This enterprise-wide rollout allows seamless print queue setup, and printing operation and troubleshooting for disparate UNIX systems, applications, and users. This solution empowers users (i.e. regional IT staff) and central IT staff to be more productive in their worldwide print infrastructure management.

A powerful system such as OM Plus also centralizes the print infrastructure help desk support function down to a single workstation in the corporate data center such that a single staff person can easily support thousands of printers on multiple continents around the world.

--

Plus Technologies

A Division of Digital Controls

444 Alexandersville Road

Miamisburg, OH 45342

937-384-0444

877-899-7587 (toll free)

www.plustechnologies.com

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

While working for an organization with a substantial direct mail marketing department, I once witnessed the aftermath of an ill-informed purchase of printers and corresponding print management programs. This company in particular had a drastic increase in their printing needs, so the shot-callers immediately went out and spent thousands on the biggest and best high speed envelope printer on the market.

Unfortunately, the printer was far more complicated than the old printers, and it needed skilled operators to work as it was designed. Eventually, the printer was benched and the reliable (if slow) printers were called up just to continue production.

While this specific example highlights the pitfalls one may encounter after purchasing printer hardware, the moral is just as applicable to print software.

Chances are likely that if you're reading this guide, you already have a pretty good idea why your organization needs a solution for your print and output management needs. Even though you're aware of the need, it behooves you to examine exactly how your organization will implement the print management software, what problem(s) you expect advanced print management to address, and what software features would best help you achieve realize solutions to those problems.

What problems does the software need to solve?

Printer communication--or lack thereof--often causes problems for end users, and these problems typically trickle back down to the help desk. An end user, for example, sends a document to the print spooler; he goes to retrieve his document from the output tray only to find the tray empty. Generally, this process will be repeated in a few permutations of novice trouble-shooting before the problem is fixed by the end user or the help desk.

The time lost in the troubleshooting permutations and the help desk call could be avoided altogether if the printer was able to communicate back to the user's workstation with the status of the print job. But advanced print spool management software (Plus Technologies' OM Plus print manager, for example) allows the printer to communicate mutually with the workstation. This bidirectional communication allows the printer to return a status message to the end user, bypassing any guesswork and eliminating the time spent trying to diagnose the problem.

A lack of bidirectional communication between the printer and the end user or the print server is only one example out of many problems typically addressed by advanced print management software. As such, you need to be very familiar with the particular printing problem(s) your organization faces so that you can ensure you find an appropriate print management solution.

How will the print management solution be implemented?

The next major consideration that should inform your decision is how the print management software will be implemented throughout the organization.

On which operating system platforms will the print management solution be implemented? And more importantly, will the software be able to interact seamlessly across all the platforms you require? Many print management software solutions are multi-platform compatible, but there are a few such as the OM Plus print management software suite that will function across nearly all computing environments.

Another important point to research is the software's interface: What is the user interface? Just as in my example of the super-duty printer that nobody knew how to operate, if an organization implements a print management solution that is complicated, unintuitive, or otherwise is not user-friendly, it can become a systemic pariah, shunned by frustrated individual users on a significant scale.

Some software for print management solves the issue of user interface by simply operating off of the print server. This allows end users to print as they always have, without having to deal with a new interface at all. OM Plus functions like this, with a Java GUI for server-side administration. Advanced end users, moreover, may still interface with the software using a web-based application, so no software needs to be installed on workstations throughout the enterprise, slashing costs for initial implementation and training.

What other features should you look for?

A benefit of a system such as OM Plus is the centralized control of an entire enterprise's output management. This is certainly not a necessary feature in a print management software solution, but anyone who has tried to diagnose issues that a piece of software has across multiple workstation can surely appreciate the convenience and time saved by using a centralized control system.

A final feature, which is most applicable to organizations that are rapidly growing or with plans to expand in the future, is the scalability of the print management software. Scalability really entails much of the previous points--such as functionality across multiple operating systems and centralized control--since organizations often grow organically, acquiring workstations and machines on an as-needed basis. Growth such as this demands flexibility of its software. Scalability also address the issue of size: how many departments and end-users will the software need to support? Flexibility in user load and demand is also of critical importance for fluctuating business modesl.

Following these points as guidelines, you can now make more informed decisions when searching for print management software. And making informed decisions during the research process is the first step to maximizing your return on investment after finally implementing a print management solution.

Every day, companies are updating their aging network printer fleets with more feature-rich multi-function printer, copier, fax, scanner machines (commonly called MFD’s). With these hardware updates comes the consolidation of devices with the intent of improving business processes.

However, while the MFD's consolidate paper output from a fleet of hundreds of small network printers to less than twenty-five (25) multi-function devices, companies often still experience problems directly related to the reduction in the number of printers on the network.

Initial Print Management Problem(s)

Many of the problems that companies continue to experience after comparable hardware upgrades are directly related to the reduction in the number of available network printers.
Often, companies initially assign users to specific printing devices on the network. Then, once the company consolidates output devices, users are typically grouped together to share print devices. The new problem thus arises wherein the company needs to be sure that print jobs do not get intermingled.

A typical solution to this problem is to implement a supplemental print program that inserts a red “separator page” between print jobs. The separator page easily allows end users to identify and separate print jobs on the output tray. As a result of output device consolidation and the implementation of the "separator page" solution to differentiating print jobs, overall output costs are reduced and processes are improved. At least, those are the initial results.

As time goes by, however, the software implementation that inserts the separator page may fail, causing lock ups and system down time due to the increased volume of print jobs on individual output devices. As these errors increase, the need for /www.plustechnologies.com/plustech/home.asp”>print management software to provides intelligent failover and print job status notification from the primary printer to a backup printer becomes increasingly necessary. A rudimentary "page inserter" solution cannot handle complex, rules-based failover procedures.

The Solution: Multi- Functional, Third-Party Print Management Software

The solution to this problem is fairly straight forward, and companies can often save significant amounts of money by implementing the /www.plustechnologies.com/plustech/index.asp?webpageid=%7b154A2FD1-E646-48CF-AD2D-826E4CCD343F%7d”>proper print management software solution at the outset. An example of such a primary software solution is the OM Plus software suite from Plus Technologies. OM Plus's intelligent print job management capability outperforms and can replace cheaper, static print management software such as an aftermarket print management implementation with limited functionality or a native OS print spooler.

OM Plus’s context delivery module can review each print job on the fly, determining the print job's destination printer and final output tray while choosing the appropriate banner/separator page for that job. This advanced print management capacity of OM Plus resolves not only the primary challenge that a company faces when needing to implement print job management in the first place, but it also addresses the issue of online print management during a printer failure (as printers are apt to do from time to time).

To combat the stoppage of business processes due to printer problems, OM Plus (through its bi-directional communications with the printer) is able to determine when a job has not printed successfully due to any condition and takes appropriate remedial action on the print job.

For any type of printer error condition (with the exception of a printer that is out of paper), OM Plus automatically re-routes the print job to an alternate, backup printer. It then notifies the end user of the re-routing so they know where to pick up their print job and keep working productively. (In the case of an empty paper tray, OM Plus does not re-route the job since that condition is easily corrected by the end user when they come to pick up their print job.

Finally, as part of the re-routing process, OM Plus notifies the support staff about the problem with the printer (along with diagnostics information from the printer) so the support staff can quickly resolve the problem and get the printer back into service as soon as possible.

The Result

The most important result of implementing an advanced third-party print management software suite is simple: a company can truly realize the intentions of consolidating hundreds of network printers down to several dozen. Specifically, such a consolidation transforms the cost savings from theorized to actualized.

It is not uncommon for end customers to be faced with print job management challenges when addressing printing costs and processes at the enterprise level. However, appropriate advanced print spooler management software can allow IT professionals to diagnose quickly output problems and to re-architect a solution that solves the initial output problem in a financially sound manner as well.

Accounting, Accountability and Enterprise Print Management

Enterprise printing often draws the ire of accounting departments and budget committees when cutbacks become necessary or budgets come under review. Of course, this targeting is not without good reason, since significant waste often occurs in enterprising printing. In instances where document printing costs are not already a frequent scapegoat, one can nearly always find inefficiencies and wasteful spending in an organization's in-house printing expenses.

There are several low-tech solutions organizations have tried in order to manage printing--some not without their own small benefits or rustic charm. One organization I worked for was maniacal about reusing paper that had been misprinted or overprinted. And I still think this is a good, environmentally conscious practice, which is why I continue to do this at home on my personal printer. But as a solution for enterprise-wide print waste? No.

The reused paper was only to be used for printing internal documents. Invariably, elaborate systems had to be devised on the fly by employees to make sure recycled documents were not being used to print external documents, such as customer and client invoices. Moreover, other systems and procedures had to be "developed" to avoid confusion as to which side of the now-two-sided documents was the correct side.

What a mess. While a "solution" like this does reduce paper usage by reusing paper, the waste really only shifts from paper supplies to human resources, once you account for the time employees waste trying to work within such a "system."

Reducing Expenses through Print Management Software

A better solution, a real solution, to reducing wasted resources is to automate print management with software designed to avoid situations like these altogether. Print spoolers and print management systems found native on operating systems typically fail to offer any print management beyond basic document printing. But third party print management software, such as the OM Plus print management suite, provides functionality and communication about print job status that can increase staff productivity and decrease costs. Software such as this, moreover, can allow management to make decisions about enterprise print policies that are informed by detailed usage statistics.

Print Cost Tracking and Advanced Print Management

Using a /www.plustechnologies.com/plustech/home.asp”>print management software suite such as OM Plus and its OM Stats module, management and network administrators can work together with detailed statistics on enterprise printing broken down by job, by department, or even by end-user. Informed by these usage statistics, management can determine whether a particular department or even a particular user is printing excessively beyond what the department or user actually requires based on its function in the organization.

From there, management and network administrators can then develop print quotas for these departments or even end-users. These quotas then can be passed to or integrated with the print management software, so that once the department or user reaches its quota, printing will be halted. By notifying users of such quotas, management finally has a way to make users accountable for what they print on enterprise printers.

Color printing and TCO Reduction

Color printing is an expensive but often necessary aspect of document production. Often, an overlooked area of resource waste in printing can be found in jobs sent to color printers. A 50 page print job, for example, may contain 10 pages that require color printing while the other a second 50 page job only needs monotone printing. If the print jobs both are sent to a color printer, however, the jobs will use 100 pages worth of color printer resources.

The "total cost of ownership" associated with color printers, particularly toner replacement exceeds TCO of normal monotone laser or color printers. A monotone printer can print at a cost of around $0.01 per page, but printing on a color machine can cost around $0.08 per page or higher.

Not only can /www.plustechnologies.com/plustech/home.asp”>third party print management solutions provide detailed usability statistics and print management authority across the enterprise and down to the individual user level, but this print management authority can extend to individual jobs as well. In the example of the 2 50 page documents print management software such as Plus Technologies' OM Plus can actually determine based on the document's meta-data which jobs can be printed in black and white and which require a color printer.

The print management software then divides the job between printers, so that the 50 pages of monotone print in black and white prints at $0.01 per page, and the 50 pages of color print on the color printer at $0.08 per page. So instead of paying $8 to print the documents entirely on the color printer at a higher cost and lower printer efficiency, you could split the print jobs between appropriate printers at a cost of only $4.50.

That's a savings of nearly $3.50 on just the one document being prevented from printing on the color printer. Now scale that up to the enterprise level, and try to justify why your organization can afford to manage printing using only native OS print spoolers.

The bathroom is one of the easiest and most affordable rooms to redecorate. All you really need is a simple wallpaper or paint color on the walls, and you can let bathroom furnishings do the rest.

Shower Curtains

The shower curtain is oftentimes the centerpiece of the bathroom décor. Look for a shower curtain you love and then find other matching accessories to go with it. Whether you’re looking for a floral shower curtain, beach print, sports theme or just a solid color, you’ll find a wealth of options online.

Towels and Bath Rugs

Look for high-quality, soft towels and bath rugs that compliment the bathroom’s wall color and shower curtain. Remember, it doesn’t all have to be the same color as long as the colors you pick compliment each other.

It’s all in the Furnishings

Your bathroom will really come together when you add decorative furnishings such as a tissue holder, soap dish or toothbrush holder. Also, consider using a decorative waste basket instead of a plain white plastic one. The decorative kinds are not much more expensive and they add a real touch to the room.

The Extra Comforts

Especially for a guest bath, it’s nice to add some extra comforts like plush cotton robes and some spare toothbrushes in case your guests forget theirs.

Creating a cute and comfortable bedroom for your little one involves more than just choosing the right /www.laurenslinens.com/“>childrens bedding. It’s all in the details.

Kids Wall Decorations

Plain white walls are awfully boring. Spruce up your child’s room with a little paint and a youthful, fun wall border. Kids wallpaper borders come in a variety of designs and colors including everything from the Care Bears and Tonka Trucks to sports-themed wallpaper options. Look for a kids wallpaper border that matches your childrens bedding.

Borders are a better option than wallpaper because they are easier and less expensive to replace once your child outgrows the design.

Kids Rugs

A kids rug lends a real since of coziness to any childrens bedroom, and it’s an essential if your child’s room has hard wood floors. Chose a cozy kids rug that compliments the color scheme and theme of the rest of the room. If the rug will be on hard wood floors, make sure to get a rug pad or grip to go underneath to prevent the rug from slipping.

Print Management and Enterprise-Wide Cost Reduction

Reducing overhead is an omnipresent concern for any business operation. At a time when top-heavy global organizations are eager to reduce costs by cutting unnecessary or redundant jobs, an enterprise-wide improvement in print management can increase staff productivity throughout the entire organization. This increase in efficiency and productivity results in lower operating costs and can reduce or delay the need for downsizing or layoffs.

Improve Productivity with Advanced Print Management

The most effective way to improve productivity is to automate repetitive processes. For example, most native OS print spoolers offer the option to print multi-page jobs collated or one page at a time. This feature eliminates the hours of hand work required for either collating or separating printed documents for binding, folding, inserting into envelopes, or whatever the next step may be in the document production process.

Not only can advanced print management software handle print process automation such as collating, of course, but it can also scale up the automation throughout an entire enterprise. So rather than simply collating one print job to one printer, print management software can collate multiple jobs to one printer, or separate one job across multiple printer so that the printing load is shared and balanced.

e-Documents and Printer Management: "Green is the new green."

One of the most immediate ways to reduce costs throughout an organization is the implementation of electronic documentation delivery. By using electronic documents (printing documents to a computer file rather than to a sheet of paper) you eliminate paper and ink or toner costs previously associated with that particular print job.

For example, if a design firm routinely prints hard copies of proofs to fax to clients, the costs associated with the physical printing of this process are completely eliminated if you can print directly to a fax server using printer management software that surpasses the functionality of native print spoolers.

If the organization uses pdf authoring software with enhanced functionality and security features such as the ability to insert comments or digitally "sign" and encrypt documents, this further reduces the need for printing documents to paper prior to delivery.

A reduction in paper and toner usage just for one task, such as faxing proofs, when implemented across an entire enterprise will precipitate drastic reductions in daily operating costs. Moreover, with the current cultural focus on the environment, a company who enacts a major shift towards electronic document printing and delivery can use this in a marketing capacity as part of a greater corporate environmental initiative.

"You have to spend money to make money."

That old adage has never been as a propos as it is for print management software. By investing in a scalable, long term enterprise print management solution, an organization can redirect thousands of labor hours to ensure a more efficient use of time and labor. Moreover, this same software solution can cut operating expenses by reducing the reliance on paper-and-ink document delivery to more efficient and fast methods such as fax or email. So the next time your organization needs to cut costs, consider implementing a solution that will improve the operation of your workforce, rather than just making the workforce smaller.

--

Plus Technologies

A Division of Digital Controls

444 Alexandersville Road

Miamisburg, OH 45342

937-384-0444

877-899-7587 (toll free)

www.plustechnologies.com

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

Decorating your child's bedroom in a manner that will be fun and inspiring for your son or daughter but also aesthetically coordinated to your tastes and the rest of the house is no small feat. When your kids share a bedroom, it can be twice as hard.

Whether you have twins sharing a room or children of different ages and even genders, chances are they will not like all the same things and will have different ideas about how the room should be decorated. You can try the old method of drawing a line down the middle of the room and allowing your children do whatever they want with their respective sides, but this can create some pretty interesting and uncoordinated bedroom decorations.

Better yet, use some general decorating guidelines and childrens bedding and accessories to create a well balanced room that also allows each child to express his or her unique interests and tastes.

Start With Some Basic Guidelines

Before letting your kids pick out their favorite childrens bedding patterns, set some general guidelines for their selections so that their individual bedding choices will end up coordinating together. Color is a great place to start. Help your kids pick a few colors that they will stick to when decorating their room. Keep the wall color or wall paper in mind when making color selections so that the childrens bedding will compliment its surroundings.

You can stop at color and let your kids pick up from there, but if you have ideas about general themes that you'd like your kids to pick from, set those guidelines as well. Maybe both your boys love sports but one prefers basketball while the other likes football best. You can make sports the general theme of their room and allow each boy to pick childrens bedding for the sport he favors.

If you want to have themed childrens bedroom accessories such as wall borders, window treatments and knick knacks that all follow a general theme, it will be much easier to pull off if you limit your kids bedding selections to the same theme. For example, if you picked a Care Bears theme for your little girls' room, you can decorate the room with Care Bears accessories and then allow each child to choose girls bedding decorated with her favorite Care Bear.

It Doesn't Have to be Perfect!

Anytime you're decorating a child's bedroom, it's important to keep in mind that it doesn't have to be as perfectly put together as the rest of your house. Children enjoy wild patterns and mixing colors because they are learning about their own tastes and the world around them. So, try not to get wrapped up in having everything come together perfectly and shoot for helping your kids' express themselves within some general color and theme guidelines.

--

LaurensLinens.com offers 300 of the most popular childrens bedding styles available today.
