Some business men are thinking that inbound links mean little to nothing. What is important for them is earnings, page views, and revenue. Everything else is not very important for them. How do you earn more from an online advertising campaign?

Does getting inbound links from a poor page do any good? Is it worth spending time to get it? The search engine optimizers’ answer is yes. The anchor text is really valuable and low page rank doesn’t mean that the source page is poor; the page does not follow an appropriate SEO campaign. A low PR can rank well and a link from it would be valuable too.

But the best solution is to have inbound links for important sites, which places you high on Google’s results list. Maybe it's wise to think further than page rank. The potential traffic of famous brands, for example, is very important too.

Some well known firms have a very low PR, but the traffic they are generating is worth getting it. There are sites that may even have a PR of 0, but the site content is related to your sites. Go ahead and link to these kinds of sites because relevancy is also very important.

The general idea is that every link is getting a better page rank; Google really loves links strategy. There is no single inbound link that can hurt a site; there are some links banned by Google.

They can make outbound links to you, but search engines understand that a website designer or webmaster can’t control every time this happens. The punishment isn’t applied every time when irregular links appear.

It is wise to verify as often as possible the outbound links source and eliminate the dangerous ones. If linking a bad site becomes a usual activity, search engines will penalize this fact.

Months, maybe even years of hard work from web designers, programmers, webmasters and search engine optimizers will be vanished. Any attempt to reach a high page rank will remain without a result.

There are some addresses where the punished webmasters can ask for forgiveness and have the right place in the results page again. It does not work every time. In principle, there is no penalty given to a site that links to a relevant page; but using the reciprocal links farm will get a website severely punished not only by Google, but also by the other popular search engines.

There are linking directories that you may join to link to other sites with relevant content or with a high page rank. Just be sure to check your backlinks to make sure they are linking back to you because Google does not favor those who have hundreds of links with no backlinks. A great resource to join and start linking your websites is:

o http://www.MyLinkMachine.com

You may also want to consider article submission to directories to insert your links into your articles. If a reader is very interested in your article, chances are that they will click on your link to visit your website.
If you are the webmaster of a newly launched website, or if your website lacks the popularity it deserves, you should have a look at the following 10-step guide, which will show you how to get valuable links and improve your traffic levels and overall site popularity:

1. Use the full power of automated link management websites and directories. This is the easiest and most effective way of getting links to your website. Some great resources to start linking to other websites, go to:

o http://www.MyLinkMachine.com
o http://www.LinkManager.com

2. Place a link or invitation for potential link partners. There are many webmasters who visit related websites and some of them might want to link to you. Make sure to offer them an easy and quick solution to initiate the link exchange.

3. Use high authority websites like Wikipedia to generate traffic and increase your website popularity. Remember that quality is king on such websites, so don’t try to spam them or find quick solutions. Become part of the community and your links will be more than welcome.

4. Become a part of the blogging craze. Create your own blog (you can do that for free with services like Blogger or Word Press) and start posting on other blogs. Try to include a link to your website where the context allows it. Blog posting is effective and has the potential to send hundreds of visitors each week with only a few well written comments and some subtle links.

5. Join a few forums related to the topic of your website and become an active member. Try to create the exact same user name and password for more forums, so that you can manage your posts and memberships better. Some forums don’t allow you to place links in your messages – unless they are really valuable forums try to avoid them as they will bring little benefit.

6. Post on groups and other online communities.

7. Use social bookmarking websites such as digg.com or furl.com to generate interest in your website. The more interesting the content of your pages is, the more credit you will get from the people who determine the placement of your links.

8. Yahoo Answers is another interesting source of traffic and links. Make sure to become a real contributor to the program, not just someone who places a link without any real content.

9. Offer something of value for free to your visitors or newsletter subscribers. This will generate a viral effect in which visitors tell their friends about your website. This will lead to increased traffic, plus it will let more webmasters know that you exist, increasing the chances of a link exchange.

10. Use the full power of article submissions. This is another viral marketing tool that has the potential of generating more and more incoming links towards your website as the articles you submitted get republished on blogs and websites. You may want to register with some ezines and directories to submit your article for inclusion, such as:

o http://www.MyContentBuilder.com

Article submission can be tedious, which is why you may want to consider an automatic article submitter. It will submit one article to over 30 directories in half an hour.
While any webmaster knows that doing some link exchanges will bring more visitors on their site, few people know how to use the full potential of a link exchange campaign to boost their website popularity.

One of the key elements that determines web page rankings is the number of high quality links pointing towards that page. Combined with the keyword density of that particular page, these factors will determine where your web page appears when a search is initiated.

Let’s say you have a website on wood carving. Now, one of your pages is dedicated to wood carving tools, which is also the key phrase you optimized the page for. A good keyword density is not enough, however, and if you want to tank high you need to get as many incoming links pointing towards that specific page as possible.

While links pointing towards your domain name are valuable, you actually need to get links pointing towards that particular page in order to get the best results.

Anchor keywords

The anchor text is the one that you can insert in an HTML code so that your link is actually a series of keywords or a keyword-rich phrase. The importance of anchor text keywords is high because it tells the search engines that the page the link is pointing at is focused on the topic described by the keywords. Here is how the HTML code for a link looks like:

Keyword Rich Description

In the case of the wood carving site example, the link for the specific tools page should look something like this:

Wood Carving Tools

The web browsers will only display the link anchor text, so the phrase “Wood Carving Tools” will become underlined and hyperlinked.

Where to use anchor text?

Everywhere! When you are doing link exchanges, when you are posting on blogs, forums or groups. When you are creating your website description, when you are sending articles to ezines and directories.

For example, if you plan to send a few articles for submission to a directory, you should try to include keyword rich anchor text links in the resource box.

By doing so, you ensure a much better chance for ranking high on particular keywords. Always remember to use a keyword rich phrase in links that allow HTML, instead of the classic http://www.yoursite.com.

It also helps if you use variation in the keyword text links. When posting on blogs, for example, try to have your links point to different pages on your site, and for each page use the main page keyword in the anchor text.

This is also true for article submissions. You should submit one article to as many directories as possible, but change the link and keyword anchor text once in a while. A great source for submitting articles is:

o http://www.MyContentBuilder.com

Article submission can be tedious, which is why you may want to consider an automatic article submitter. It will submit one article to over 30 directories in half an hour.
