So Should I Get An Plasma or LCD TV?

1) What size of a screen will you be selecting?
Believe it or not both the LCD and plasma TV's are available in up to 65” now. Are you thinking about a TV larger than 50"? If price matters most to you...then you will find the plamsa are less expensive than the 50"+ LCD. But don't give up yet…LCD’s are becoming less expensive every day.

2) Lets now discuss the rooms lighting.
The reason I mention this to you is that the amount of direct sun light will play a role when selecting your flat panelwall mount TV set. The reason I bring this up is that the plasma’s glass screen can reflect plenty of natural.If you have a room filled with natural sunlight, can you see how this might effect your being able to watch TV comfortably? Did you know-- direct sunlight can also contribute to a washout of color. Even indirect or ambient lighting can cause a contrast ratio reduction, especially in black colors produced on the screen.

Now we'll talk about the benefits of the LCD, because the LCD is equipped with a plastic matte screen that reflects less light. So if you have a very bright room-- the LCD is probably your best choice. So score a point for the LCD here.

3) Lets talk about your furniture layout.
The reason I ask is that unfortunately, when you sit at a funny angle from the screen you will get a faded LCD picture. So this may be an important thing to consider when arranging your furniture in your TV room. Sometimes based on the rooms design…You really don’t have much of an option. So think carefully about the trade off here. You tend to see some brightness and color shift when you're on too much of an angle with LCD’s. (The good news is that LCD companies are working day and night experimenting with solutions to this problem. On the other hand, a plasma can be viewed with a fairly solid picture from almost an angle. So score a point for plasma's here. Since technology is changing almost overnight and quality varies from manufacturer to manufacturer (and model to model) I would suggest a side-by-side comparison with several flat screens you are toying with. Try to make believe where your favorite comfy chair would be so you can watch it from the estimate angle you will be using at home--and simply see for yourself.

Unfortunately asking for help at Best Buys or Circuit City only confuses the issue as they explain things in technical jargon that is not easily understood.



So lets try to explain things in a simple manner so that anyone can understand it. This way you won't unnecessarily spend more than you need to on your next TV.



So Then What Exactly Is HDTV?



Simply put, HD stands for High Definition. It describes the quality of the broadcast signal as well as the quality of the picture on your plasma or LCD TV.



Next, Did You Know That There Are Different Levels Of HD Quality?



As of right now the 3 levels of HD available are.



A) 720p

B) 1080i

c) 1080p




So What Do These Numbers Mean?



The numbers correspond to the lines of resolution on your TV screen.



First lets discuss a standard TV, which only shows a 480i picture. This means there are 640 vertical pixels x 480 horizontal pixels that make up your Televisions picture.



It only makes sense then that the more pixels or lines of resolution you have…the better your picture quality is going to be.



Are you following me so far?



So Then How Many Pixels Does An HD Plasma or LCD Have?



As discussed befor, there are different grades of HDTV broadcasting available.



A) 720 p has 720 vertical pixels and 1,280 horizontal pixels



B) Both 1080i and 1080p have a resolution of 1,920 vertical pixels x 1,080 horizontal pixels



It only makes sense then that a 720p has a better picture than a typical 480 TV, and a 1080i TV or 1080p TV has a clearer picture than a 720p plasma tv.



Does that make sense?



So What Does The "p" And The "i" Represent?



The "p" or the "i" refers to how the picture is refreshed on your tv screen.
The "p" stands for "progressive", while the "i" stands for "interlaced".



Now what does this mean?



Imagine taking a paintbrush covering your entire TV screen with one stroke. That's what happens with a "Progressive" broadcast signal. When you have a 720p or 1080p television all 720 or 1080 lines of resolution are refreshed on your TV at the same time.



On the other hand when it comes to a 1080i or "interlaced" TV, you would take that same paintbrush and just pain in every other line. First all of the even lines of resolution are pained in. Then 1/30 of a second later all of the odd lines are painted in, etc, etc.



Can you see how a 1080p picture would provide a crisper picture then a 1080i?



But there is something you need to know before spending the extra money on a 1080p… All cable and satellite channels are currently broadcasted in 1080i picture. That's right…even if you had a 1080p TV-It would offer no better picture then a 1080i.



When Might You Consider Buying A 1080P:



A) You are the type that MUST HAVE the latest and greatest technology

B) You are willing to wait for the cable companies to start broadcasting in a 1080p signal

C) You are setting up a home theater room and either own or are planning to buy a Blueray or HD DVD player since they are the only equipment that can produce a 1080p signal that you can see on a 1080p TV.

A Home Inspection Is Cheap Insurance?



Where else can you get the value from a $300 -$400 home inspection?



Think about all of the hidden things that an untrained eye can miss?



You would be surprised how many times a few hundred dollar investment has saved a potential buyer from getting stuck with a lemon of a house with major structural problems. If they had bought the place they would be stuck with a home that couldn't be sold.



Fore example, a few years ago my son bought his first home. It was a nice little foreclosure...a handyman special. Best of all the price was just right.



In fact...the price was a little too good if you know what I mean.



Wanting to do everything on his own...he made a common mistake that many first homebuyers make. He bought it without having it inspected.



First he noticed little things like how the doors and windows didn't close properly.



Then there were the drafts that could not be sealed.



Finally there was the old marble on the counter top test. You would not believe how fast it rolled down to the other end.



It turns out that the builder was not such a nice fellow. Instead of dumping all of the construction debris...he merely buried it under the front corner of the house.
After a few years the garbage began to decompose & the house began to settle.



Upon closer examination I found that I could stick my entire head under the foundation at one place.



Unfortunately for him it was a very expensive lesson. A lesson that cost him over $30,000 of lost equity when it came time to sell. For you see, the home had major structural problems. Problems...that could only be fixed by driving (4) posts into the ground 80 feet deep and jacking up the entire house.



The estimates came in at about $10,000--
Not including all of the repairs that would be needed to the drywall & hardwood floors when the house was leveled.



Worse of all, the law now states that you would have to disclose such information to any new home buyers. Now think about it...even after the problem was fixed-- would you buy this house?



My son decided to not repair it & had to sell the house for the same price he paid for it 7 years earlier.
It cost him $30,000 or more in equity that it had appreciated over the years.



If he only would have asked for a little help. An Atlanta Home Inspection would have turned up all of these concerns BEFORE he signed on the dotted line.

So what that means in simple English is that the more Zigbee devices you add to the system...the stronger the connection will be since each device will feed off of the next. All of the Control4 lighting dimmers are Zigbee based. The LCD keypads may be Zigbee based or hard wired via Ethernet.
