In that great Hitchcock thriller, the birds start attacking Tipp Heron (Melanie Griffith's mom, for trivia fans) in Mendocino for no particular reason. Today, Ms. Heron works actively in films, international relief efforts and for animal causes. She may get an ironic opportunity to combine her charity works with birds again, because scientists around the world are looking nervously at the increasing possibility of a return of avian influenza, also known as the bird flu. First identified in Italy in 1900, it is the H5N1 virus implicated in the great Spanish Flu pandemic of 1918-1919 that killed about 40 million people. I say "implicated in" instead of "caused," because it was government policies that made the death toll much higher than it needed to be. But there is no doubt H5N1 is a major killer.
There are three steps H5N1 has to go through in order to get to people. First, there needs to be a lot of infected birds. Almost 200 million chickens have been killed or died in Asia in the last year due to avian flu infection. Strike One.
Next, unless someone eats diseased poultry, the flu has to cross species into an animal that can easily infect people. It has now crossed into pigs, which is where most human flu outbreaks begin. Pigs carry human influenza viruses. Viruses can combine (exchange DNA) in pigs, creating a variant of H5N1 that can spread as easily and rapidly as ordinary flu. Strike Two.
Finally, it has to hit an unprepared populace, with lowered immune systems and no effective drugs. Lowered immune systems are caused by, among other factors, cold weather, lack of sleep, excess weight, stress, high sugar intake and caffeine. Hmmm. Sound like anyone you know?
Serious scientists think H5N1 could kill as many people as the 1918 disaster, if only because there are now more than three times as many people in the world. The UN Coordinator for Avian and Human Influenza recently said a bird flu pandemic could kill as many as 150 million people. Other scientists have projected up to 354 million deaths. And you thought $3 gasoline was a major problem!
The H5N1 bird flu reappeared in Hong Kong in 1997. Eighteen people were infected, and six died. All the chickens in the area were slaughtered, and the outbreak was confined to Hong Kong. But it has now been found in Vietnam, Thailand, Japan, Mainland China, Malaysia and Indonesia.
It then showed up in Russia, almost certainly carried by migratory birds. So much for banning chicken. In August 2005, it appeared in Mongolia and Kazakhstan, and then in western Russia, poised to enter Europe. Romania found infected and dead swans in October. An infected parrot died in quarantine in the United Kingdom.
The Senior United Nations System Coordinator for Avian and Human Influenza in charge of a response to H5N1 says a pandemic could begin at anytime, and kill five million to 150 million people. He confirmed the virus is in migratory birds, and said an outbreak could start in Africa, where immune systems are chronically depressed, or the Middle East as well as Southeast Asia. What he didn't say is that the same migratory birds, mainly ducks, swans and geese, also travel thousands of miles to Canada and the U.S. The H5N1 virus is almost certainly in the U.S. already - it just hasn't been found yet. December, January and February are the "flu season" in both the U.S. and Asia.
We have reviewed all the companies involved in bird flu vaccines, and found two stocks that should be bought immediately because they will make a fortune even if there is never a case of bird flu in the world again. Governments around the world are stocking up on vaccines just in case they are needed, and these stockpiles need to be replenished periodically.

--
www.infozabout.com
www.fluvirus.infozabout.com

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

What you are doing if you are charged With a Crime?

Although most people never expect to be charged with a crime, there can come a time when that can happen. These types of charges can range form warrants being issued for aid traffic tickets to individuals filing lawsuits against you. The best time to prepare for being charged with a crime is before it ever happens.

Since lawsuits and arrests can move quickly, it is best to understand the basic events that lead up to and constitute being charged with a crime prior to the being charged. If you are knowledgeable about the events beforehand, the process can go easier and hopefully, be less intimidating.

No matter which type of crime you are charged with, the proceedings will usually happen in a predetermined way. First, a warrant will put for your arrest. If a warrant is issued against you, you will usually be notified of the warrant by being served. Being served means that a police officer will locate you and deliver your warrant papers in person. On rare occasions, a person is arrested before being served with a warrant. In these cases, the arresting officer must show the warrant papers within a reasonable amount of time after the arrest has been made.

After you have been arrested, you will be taken to the police station to be booked. Being booked means that you will be fingerprinted and a file will be opened regarding your case. After being booked, you will generally spend a short amount of time in jail while you await your initial hearing and arrange payment for bail.

While you are in jail, you are allowed to contact an attorney. Any person charged with a crime has the right to seek legal representation. It is very important that you at least meet with an attorney before your initial hearing. If you cannot afford an attorney, or you have not chosen an attorney yet, the court can and must appoint a lawyer for you.

During the initial hearing, you will be asked to make a plea of guilty, not guilty or no contest. Your attorney will advise you as to which plea is most favorable for your situation. Even if you are guilty you may opt to plead not guilty. Some defendant's choose to do this if they feel that the prosecutor does not have enough evidence against them to prove their case. If you plead not guilty, you will be given a trial in which it is the responsibility of the prosecution to prove your guilt. If you plead guilty or no contest, you will not be given a trail, rather you will go straight to a sentencing hearing.

If you are proven not guilty at your trial, you will be released from custody. If you are found guilty, you will be given a sentencing hearing.

A sentencing hearing is a hearing that allows all parties involved in your case to express the facts involving your case that may affect your sentence. These parties could include your accuser, yourself or persons who are defending your case.

After the hearing the judge will consider all evidence presented and then make a decision regarding your sentencing. Your sentencing could include additional jail time, monetary fines, community service or mandatory treatment programs. Depending on the severity of your crime, the evidence against you and your initial plea, the degree of sentencing could vary greatly. For smaller crimes, sentencing may only include a small fine and no jail time.

To insure that all of your rights are protected and that you receive the least sentencing possible, it is important that you hire a competent attorney and become knowledgeable about all of your rights.
Did you find this article useful? They can come in handy when you are hiking, boating, biking, or doing just about anything else in the great outdoors. Twenty years ago, you had to rely on a compass the position of the sun and stars and your own common sense. Not anymore! Now you can have a handy little device that can pinpoint your exact location at any given time of day.
If you are in the market for a GPS device, it is important that you understand how it works. Since the GPS devices rely on air signals, you must have a GPS receiver and a clear view of the sky for them to work. When your device is turned on it is actually linking up with 27 orbital satellites in place around the planet. Four of the nearest satellites are located and the distance from them to you is calculated via the hand held device. The process is called dilatation. Based on that, the GPS device can determine where you are on the planet.
DIA is an unusual US airport, as it is one of the largest in the country, but surprisingly it is well behind smaller airports for its international
traffic. The City Hall and the airport authorities have been trying to build a successful strategy of international development since the early 1990s.

Denver International Airport (DIA) opened on 28 February 1995, replacing the old constrained Stapelton airport. The goal was clear: ensuring the development of the local market and economy by providing room for expansion to airline carrier such as United Airlines. It had since become one of the busiest airports of the nation. But despite this success, the city had yet to secure any non-stop service to Europe, which would boost the airport's traffic, and was important to for the city of Denver and the whole Rocky Mountains region to gain a worldwide reputation and recognition.

During the early 1990s, no European airline was present at DIA, and Continental Airlines had dropped its Honolulu-Denver-London route leaving Denver's travelers with the only solution of a first connection before reaching the Old Continent. Europe's largest single market, London, was obviously the prime target of DIA. Despite initial contacts in 1990s, it's not until 01 September 1998 that British Airways landed at Denver for the first time. The traffic would have been satisfying with two yearly peak periods with skiing season in the Rocky Mountains (March), and the summer holidays (July and August). United Airlines, Denver's dominant carrier with a 70+% market share intended to launch European flights from its Denver hub, and it announced it would launch a flight to London in April 2000. But the airline was not granted rights, and had to look elsewhere in Europe: a link to Frankfurt, the main base of UA's European partner Lufthansa was eyed by both airlines and highly supported by the airport authorities, proposing up to US$1 million in advertising incentives. Lufthansa initiated a daily service on 25 March 2001, receiving the US$1 million in marketing incentives and a US$700,000 landing fees waiver.

Denver airport is well-known for being an "hot'n'high" airfield, which has led to some technical problems for the operators, since the lift capacity of the airplanes is decreased. Airplanes either need to reduce their fare-paying payload -- and lose revenue -- or accelerate to a high speed -- which requires longer runways. In Denver's case, no runway was long enough for the heavy airplanes taking-off bound for Europe. The first idea the management found was to embed the lights located at the end of the runway into the ground to lengthen the existing runways (nearly 90ft gained). This has already diminished the technical restrictions, but a new 16,000ft runway is under construction and will be among the longest on earth for commercial use.

DIA hopes that these first links to Europe will show the way to other carriers, notably Air France from Paris, to place the airport in the US' top airports and make Denver a more attractive place to make business.

Did you find this article useful?
Online marketing for Professional Realtors Building your Real Estate website with template or, custom solution.

Online marketing for Realtors involves the application of many different online tools. As a professional Realtor, the decision as to which of these tools is best for you can be somewhat confusing. Here is a break down and brief explanation of some of the many options available to realtors in this modern age.

First you need a website. Your Real Estate website introduces you to you customers and establishes you as a professional in your field. Your website should be attractive, informative and easy for your potential customers to navigate. There are an endless number of people and companies online that can build a website for you. However, I would suggest you have your site constructed by an individual or company that specializes in building Real Estate websites.

Next you have to decide if a "template" website is right for you or, should you look for a "custom built" solution. There are several online companies that have excellent, Real Estate templates available. They have the look and feel of a professionally designed site and include all the bells and whistles. Included in many of these templates are MLS or IDX capabilities, dream home finders, featured listings, pages as well as mortgage calculators, dynamic mapping to available listings, contact us, and about us pages and much more.

A custom designed website is also a very real option. There are web developers out there who concentrate on Real Estate sites. There is a greater amount of flexibility to a custom designed site. Custom designers utilize the most cutting edge technologies available, such as flash, slide shows, dissolving text, mouse rollovers, virtual tours, and more. A custom Real estate website is a thing of beauty and can give you a truly unique online presence.

There are two other factors you should give a great deal of thought and consideration to when making your decision. There is the cost involved, but equally as important is how much control you want to have over your site after it is finished. Down the road you will inevitably want to make changes to your site. You need to consider how this will be done.

There is an excellent template driven, Real Estate website company online that I would highly recommend. To begin with you can get a Free website to work on and customer support while you are learning is 100% Free. They have over sixty custom built templates available and you can change your template anytime you like, on the fly. There is no software to download, you simply go online, log in and work on your site. When you decide to publish your new website, you can have your completed website live and on the internet for less than twenty dollars per month. This solution allows you to have complete control over your website and at a cost per month that is less than the cost of taking the kids to McDonalds for lunch.
A custom solution will most likely cost, anywhere between nineteen hundred and thirty five hundred dollars. The expense can be well worth it, as they are one of a kind, and unique to you and the professional image that you want to present.
However, You will have to contact your webmaster when you want to make any changes. There is usually an expense involved. I have only been able to find one company that offers a completely custom solution, and gives you complete control of your website after it is completed, and has 100% Free customer support for as long as you own your site.

www.infozabout.com
www.realestate.infozabout.com

--
www.infozabout.com
www.realestate.infozabout.com

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

Web Conferencing is, very simply, a meeting, conference or seminar that is held over the World Wide Web. Web conferencing can refer to audio, video or text-based conversations and are conducted in real-time.

Web conferencing is an incredibly useful resource for anyone who trades within a global market place. It literally allows you to be in two places at once - sitting at home or in your office whilst conducting a meeting with someone one the other side of the world.

In its simplest form web conferencing can take the form of free downloads such as Microsoft NetMeeting or Yahoo Messenger. Subscribers can participate in text-based 'chats', inviting others into their conversations and being able to communication in real-time. Add a simple digital camera to this equation and you have the beginnings of an elementary web conferencing application.

At the other end of the scale, the most sophisticated applications allow seminars and presentations to be made to hundreds of delegates at the same time. Meetings can be fully interactive, allowing question and answer sessions, the sharing of files and documents and slide show presentations to be broadcast.

What Can I Do With Web Conferencing?

How you choose to use web conferencing will very much depend upon your line of work. A webinar (an online seminar) is less interactive than a web meeting, but is a very effective means of presenting sales pitches, performance reviews and delivering staff training.

A web meeting on the other hand, can be fully interactive not only in terms of audio and video but also by allowing the sharing of documents and files and viewing them online.

What is Online Collaboration?

Online collaboration is an excellent resource for project management, especially when team members are located in different geographical locations. Online collaboration provides an advanced level of document management and file sharing. Documents and files can be viewed, modified and updated online and in real time.

What Are The Benefits Of Web Conferencing?

The main benefits of web conferencing are to be found in terms of time and money savings. The need for travel is greatly reduced, and therefore so are the associated costs of travel - tickets, accommodation, subsistence, to name but a few. Employees spend less time waiting for flights, travel or just generally being away from their desk and therefore have more time to spend productively.

www.infozabout.com
www.conferencing.infozabout.com

--
www.infozabout.com
www.conferencing.infozabout.com

Source: http://www.articletrader.com
