I cannot hide it. Truly. I just cannot. It is very hard for me believe that we are in the most advanced and elaborated country the human race has ever been able to develop. A large number of American web sites ~and articles published everywhere~ promote, inculcate, and lead to believe that to achieve website top rankings a website owner has to follow a certain number of steps; and later on, his website is at the top of rankings.

In the XXI century, Search Engines are much more elaborated than most every website owner could possibly fathom. These cyber creatures have already been developed to become truly intelligent. I simply cannot comprehend how is it possible that folks who appear to be knowledgeable ~or so they claim to be~ intend to lead website owners to construe that there are 10 steps to achieve website top rankings. Those folks explain in their articles that achieving solid website top rankings is just a matter of one, two, three ~and then~ nine and ten . . . and bingo . . . a website is at the top of rankings.

Well . . . no . . . there is much more to gain the wanted website top rankings. To gain solid and truly long lasting website top rankings involves work. It has been my experience that a website owner stands many more chances to succeed than a professional service. It is particularly so in a long-term basis. The main reason is because ~to achieve solid and long lasting website top rankings~ only the passion an owner is willing to invest in his own website ~and for years to come~ is one of the most critical ingredients of the cocktail.

Passion to achieve, patience to do it gradually and systematically, and the long-term commitment needed could only be provided by the owner himself. Nobody can commercially offer any of that in a proficient manner unless a website owner is willing to spend several thousands of dollars.

To unveil one important situation that must be fully comprehended, I use an example to demonstrate the situation I am trying to unveil. Please, bear with me. Imagine that I build a brand new home the way I want it. Then, I paint it inside and out. Finally, I decorate it and I put all the furniture and appliances in place.

After I am done, I call an Electrician and a Plumber and tell these guys that I want them to make the electrical installation and install all the pipes. Would you say that it is too late ? You are right. It is too late. The electrical and plumbing systems must be planned in advance. None of those systems can be “added” after the house is built.

The most common case I confront is when website owners first build their web sites the way they want. Then, they want to achieve their website top rankings. Wrong guys. Very wrong. After a website was built, the ONLY thing that can be done with those existing web pages is “to patch things up”. Search Engines are too demanding. It is unlikely that those cyber creatures grant top rankings to “patched up web pages” if they have the option to place at the top web pages which were never patched up.

There is, however, a very efficient way to deal with websites which were not originally built with Search Engines in mind. The one and only way is to NOT waste time and efforts optimizing those existing web pages. No, it is not worth it. The most efficient way is “to create additional web pages which were designed and built from the ground up to satisfy Search Engines. Then, and only then, those web pages stand a much better chance to end up at the top of rankings”.

Should we fully understand that we are in the most advanced and elaborated country the human race has ever been able to develop, it is then possible for a website owner to invest his passion, his patience, and his time to achieve what he will undoubtedly achieve: solid and long lasting website top rankings.

--
George Josserme
Editor-in-Chief
Fountain of Wisdom

This man is a SEO Marketing Specialist certified by the reputable
Academy of Web Specialists.
Since those days when the Internet itself and Search Engines were simplistic ~and Google was about to become nothing more than a project called "BackRub"~ the primary use that website owners saw in Search Engines was to attract traffic to their websites. Their intent was valid and genuine then as it is today in the XXI century. There is more, however. It is something of great value, but it remains ignored: Reputation.

Since those days, folks behind Search Engines learned of ill intended web site owners ~alarmingly growing in number~ trying to cheat the rather simple Search Engines. Their intentions were to artificially manipulate their own website top rankings.

Several years after Search Engines were loosing the battle, folks responsible for developing spiders achieved crucial goals to benefit surfers: they prevent cheaters from succeeding, and they also bring to the top of rankings the websites that deserve it. In the process of achieving their goal, Search Engines become tough and unforgiving with cheaters; but they also developed a very fair exchange: "We give them what they want and they give us what we want: traffic".

There is, however, much more than just traffic. There is a quality that is neglected and wasted. Still, it has all the power to provide benefits just as traffic does: Reputation. I only hope that you do not need me to tell you what it means to build up a website's reputation.

The reason for not neglecting a website top rankings ~and the reputation that comes with it~ is based on surfers' psychology. They developed the believe that when a Search Engine like Google, Yahoo, or MSN ranks a website at the top of the rankings is because that website and it offers is good. It is not small the number of surfers who conceive that websites at the top of rankings should be the best ~or at least~ that those websites must be "the good ones".

The bad news about this is owners of these websites ~except the ones that already know about this~ are still neglecting a powerful tool: The reputation website top rankings offer.

The good news is that Search Engines are eager to bring a serious owner's website to the top of rankings. The reason is because Search Engines want good content in their indexes. They accept graphics and the glitter of Java if it is not used excessively and placed wisely within a web page, but when they arrive to that web page, they want to find good content; and they want to find that content as close to the <head> tag as possible.

It would surprise great many owners that achieving top rankings is certainly possible and more feasible than they can possibly fathom. The reason for such a surprise is because they put in their minds an untrue and detrimental concept: "It is hard".

No, it is not. It does take time and dedication, but investing in learning how it is done correctly is much more efficient than paid alternatives. It is a matter of giving Search Engines "exactly" what they want, and to do it regularly and consistently for extended periods of time. In exchange, Search Engines give an owner not only traffic, but a splendid tool to benefit from; and that tool is the always welcome reputation that a website owner gains when potential or even existing customers or clients find their website top rankings.

--
George Josserme
Editor-in-Chief
Fountain of Wisdom

This man is a SEO Marketing Specialist certified by the reputable
Academy of Web Specialists.
