However, is this just marketing hype or can you really “flush the fat”?<br><br>Gittleman’s Fat Flush diet plan is based upon essential fats, balanced proteins plus healthy carbs. The diet also recommends “cleansing” tonics such as unsweetened cranberry juice and water, and hot water and lemon juice, as well as many herbs and spices which apparently can aid your weight loss.<br><br>Most experts, however, are doubtful of the effectiveness of “fat flushing” and the lack of clinical studies to support this diet or detox diets in general is not surprising. Registered dietitian Jane Kirby says that the notion of the liver being a fat-burning furnace that is revved up by eating certain foods "deserves to be flushed". Kirby also states that there's no science behind this claim and that the Fat Flush diet plan is just a low-calorie diet and most people lose weight when calories are cut this low.<br><br>Judith S. Stern, Sc.D., R.D., vice president of the American Obesity Association says "The liver doesn't need to be detoxified. Give me a break." Stern also reminds us that muscle, not the liver, burns fat and lumps the Fat Flush diet plan with others that make unsupported claims. "All of these kinds of books offer pseudoscience," she says. "Pseudoscience is wonderful because it promises you everything, but that's all it is -- a fantasy."<br><br>In terms of exercise, the Fat Flush diet plan recommends in addition to regular walking, you “bounce off fat” on a mini-trampoline which will supposedly remove cellulite-like deposits on hips and thighs. Such a claim is unsubstantiated and when you consider that most individuals have a serious exercise deficiency it would be more far more appropriate to recommend more effective and proven exercises.<br><br>I have also written many times about the myth that walking burns more fat than more intense exercise such as running, cycling and swimming. While it is true that low-intensity exercise like walking burns a greater percentage of fat, higher intensity exercise burns far more actual fat calories. In other words, if you want to melt the fat off, it’s not going to be a walk in the park (pun intended!).<br><br>Another point to mention is that following the Fat Flush diet plan faithfully can become expensive. While the weight loss supplements are optional, the Fat Flush diet plan requires unsweetened cranberry juice, whey protein powder, high-lignan flax oil, and organic foods. Many of these are hard to get and not for those on a limited budget.<br><br>The diet can also be quite time-consuming, as you are expected to buy fresh fruits and vegetables, and cook and prepare all meals yourself. Due to the nature of the Fat Flush diet plan you will need to be very committed and have a lot of willpower to lose a significant amount of weight on this diet. <br><br>While it may be effective for some, the Fat Flush diet plan requires more dedication than many diets and you may find it difficult meeting the many requirements and abiding by the many restrictions. Well, my answer is yes and no. The cabbage soup diet, for example, has been used by many people for short-term weight loss and is seemingly effective. However, when you take a closer look you realize that the grass is not always greener on the other side.<br><br>Your body will always lose considerable weight when you drastically lower your calories and the amount of carbohydrates you consume, but this should not be confused with fat loss. Rather, you will lose water weight and becoming dehydrated, which will result in you feeling weak, having dizzy spells and even fainting if your blood sugar level goes down too much.<br><br>What’s more, any water weight you lose is temporary and regained immediately when you go back to eating normally. If you thought that the 10 pounds you’re losing would be permanent fat loss, then I’m sorry to disappoint you but that’s simply not true.<br><br>Furthermore you’ll also burn muscle tissue in addition to the water loss. This will reduce your metabolism speed making it easier to put the weight back on as fat. When your metabolism slows down in this manner, you suddenly notice that it’s now a lot easier to gain fat which is because, since you do not have as much muscle to provide nutrients to, your body does not need as many calories so can store more as fat.<br><br>On top of this, low calorie diets put your body into starvation mode which is where it realizes that it’s not getting anywhere near the energy it needs and decides to conserves it’s stored energy (fat!). To have that much weight simply disappear into the abyss means that you probably aren’t burning fat, but rather losing water weight along with some muscle tissue too. Water loss is only temporary and quickly regained.<br><br>So how does the South Beach Diet accomplish this feat anyway? A closer look shows that, like the Atkins Diet, the first few weeks require restricting carbohydrates severely, which means you will lack essential nutrients and can easily trigger your body’s starvation response. This type of dieting, along with being very misleading, has many negative consequences. <br><br>Water loss is not healthy, and is temporary and therefore quickly the lose water weight is quickly regained.The downside of losing muscle tissue is that muscles burns a lot of calories, which means that as you lose your muscle your body will burn less calories and store more fat in the long run. In addition, many of the suggested meals can take a lot of time to prepare and many of the foods the diet recommends can be quite costly too.<br><br>Almost 35% of Americans are now obese but despite this the only exercise recommendation is 20 minutes of daily walking. However, this is not at all sufficient especially when you consider that many people have a serious exercise deficiency and walking for 20 minutes does use up nearly enough calories to burn serious fat. This advice is suited to people who are in good shape and just need to lose a few pounds.<br><br>Fortunately, weight training is recommended not only because building muscle speeds up your metabolism but also because it helps strengthen bones and tendons which, as the author states, is good news for women suffering from osteoporosis <br><br>Despite the fact that the author criticizes processed foods the recent alliance between the South Beach Diet and food manufacturer Kraft has brought the author’s credibility into question. Does the South Beach Diet work? Immersed in a bubble of marketing hype and lies, with conflicting advice all over the Web, not to mention the many fad diets trying to get our attention it is very easy to go around in circles, never achieving your health and fitness goals.<br><br>We are often told that it is impossible to lose fat and build muscle at the same time, but what no-one tells you is that you CAN lose fat by building muscle. In fact, if youa are a beginner to strength/resistance training you may find you can develop stronger and bigger muscles WHILE losing fat, if you follow the right approach, that is!<br><br>Before I get ahead of myself, the first question to answer is, how lose the fat in the first place? You start by improving your diet and making the switch from 2 or 3 meals to eating 4-6 small meals every day and have the day’s earlier meals supply the bulk of your calories. Instead of counting calories and reducing them, just make a decision to eat frequent but small meals and only eat until you’re just about satisfied.<br><br>What should your meals consist of? You want lean protein such as chicken breast, tuna steaks or lean cuts of beef, with complex carbs like brown rice or whole-wheat pasta, as well as lots of green vegetables, which are high in fiber. Be it low fat, low sugar, or low carbs, with so many different opinions on what’s good and what’s not, choosing the best carbohydrate foods for weight loss requires us to educate ourselves on the fundamentals.<br><br>Carbohydrates are often categorized as simple carbs and complex carbs. If your diet is high in the former this can result in a cycle of short bursts of energy followed by “sugar crashes” which is when you suffer from cravings, mood swings and that lethargic feeling. Simple carbs include sucrose (table sugar), glucose, fructose (fruit sugar), and lactose (dairy sugar).<br><br>Examples of complex carbs on the other hand include bread, pasta, rice and vegetables. These are digested much slower than simple carbs and therefore offer a more steady release of energy. If your goal is weight loss, then all carbs should be reduced but more so simple carbs as a result of their impact on your blood sugar levels.<br><br>However, fibrous carbs such as green vegetables are one of the best carb foods you can eat for several reasons and you should endeavor to eat lots of these carbs. They are very low in calories, and in some cases even contain “negative calories”, which means that they contain so few calories that your body actually uses more calories to digest and process these foods.<br><br>An even more important distinction to make when choosing the best carb foods to help you lose weight is whether it is natural or refined. Natural carbs can be simple carbs such as fructose which is what is in fruits, or complex carbs which include starches such as potatoes and fibrous vegetables. Refined carbs on the other hand would include sucrose which is your average table sugar, and other refined sugars, or highly processed starchy carbs such as white bread and white rice.<br><br>Refined carbs are a terrible choice of food, and have little or no benefit to your body. Unfortunately, the typical western diet is shockingly high in refined carbs. What’s more, not only do these foods have many of the healthy nutrients sucked out of them, they are digested and processed by your body very quickly, like simple sugars are, which explains why you feel tired and lethargic after a typical Western lunch, especially when it’s washed down with a high-sugar beverage.<br><br>Another way to identify what the best carb foods to eat are is by referring to the GI, or glycemic index, values. The glycemic index shows the effect certain foods have on your blood sugar level. The lower the GI value, the less effect it has on your blood sugar level, and the steadier the release of energy will be.
