Island lights as mentioned earlier are usually fitted above an island in your kitchen. Usually found in the pendant lighting or ceiling lights section of your hardware or lighting store, island lights are nothing new and are designed to light up just about any room, not just your kitchen. Take for instance the pool table and rec room situation we mentioned at the beginning of the article. Billiard table lights can come in a variety of styles, such as linear chandeliers with two or three fixtures or even as horizontally styled ceiling pendants. Pool halls usually go for the latter of the two style options, with some even designed to have a lamp shade that centers the lighting directly over the table. At home, you have the freedom to choose that same style or go with something completely different and modern.

These same types of lighting can also be used in the dining room, usually over a bar or dining buffet. And as mentioned before, island lights and track lights can be used for both an aesthetical and utilitarian purpose. For the dining scenario, sometimes it's best to go for a flushed ceiling mount fixture rather than the hanging alternative. Unless you have a dining room with a rather high ceiling, island lights over the dining table can make the room seem rather small and claustrophobic.

To handle this problem wooden railings of about 4-6 inches wide were added to the sides and viola! You could shoot pool like never before! Later the table went through further modifications, customizations and improved over the years to evolve into its current form. Though Pool or Billiards as it was known then, has always been seen as a “bad boys’ ” game, it is today one of the most popular sports across the globe.

But most of all, never stand or cross in the line of sight of the player. What is the line of sight? It is purely the path of the eye of the player focusing along his billiard cue tip ball. If you are unintentionally in the line of sight of the player, simply stop moving of cause acute movements of the body until the player completes his shot, just be courteous. This too applies to your neighbouring billiards table who is playing, be polite, who knows, you may make more friends this way and probably gain more knowledge in billiards.

Also be cautious when you move around the billiard table, your opposite player may suddenly jerk up his billiard cue from behind and hit you and get hurt. He may even spread his legs to get a more stable stance, this way you can get yourself being tripped over by his legs.

When you are in a situation where you and the opposite player occupying the same spot or position for the next shot, be polite and allow him to play first. It is always better to have the other billiard player go for the shot first, there is a reason to it. When the first billiard player is engaging the shot, believe you me, he is not completely focused on the shot

Now that you are able to hold and strike the cue ball with the cue stick you will be able to choose from a wide selection of games. When playing eight ball games and straight pool, 16 balls are used, 15 of the balls are colored with one white colored ball. The object balls are numbered one through seven and are solid colored, the balls nine through 15 are white and have a colored stripe that matches a corresponding solid ball. The eight ball is always black.

The balls are to be racked using a triangle of a specific dimension. The Lag is used to determine which player gets to play the opening shot. Cue balls or solid colored balls are shot by both players at the same time, one from the right and other from the left of the head spot, to the foot cushion and back to the head end of the table. The player’s ball that is nearest to the head cushion is considered the winner.

The shots that qualify as legal are only those where the cue ball is struck with the cue tip. A game is considered open as soon as the balls are positioned and the cue ball struck with the cue stick across the head string. An opponent gets to strike when the player fails to pocket a ball during his turn at play.

In the beginning practice, practice and more practice. When you plan a practice session, always try to practice with an experienced billiards player. Playing with an expert billiards player will allow you to visually experience corrects way to make shots and it will also allow the expert to identify your mistakes. This will allow the more advanced billiards player to give you useful tips and advice that will improve both your skills and confidence in playing.

Remember that enjoying a game of pool with your friends and family members is really what it's all about. Don't put to much pressure on yourself to make every shot and sink every ball every time. The more comfortable and relaxed you become with the cue stick and pool table the better you will become naturally. Soon you will be inviting everyone with you to enjoy a game of billiards. The head unit is like the brain or central processing unit of a computer and through this unit it controls such things as tuning, volume, bass and equalizer etc. There are various types of head units out there, some which only allow you to play tapes, CDs or the radio, whilst others will provide you with a choice. There are some devices which can hold numerous CDs (a CD changer (usually held in the boot area of the vehicle)) and gives you the option to move between the CDs without having to take the CD out.

As for the speakers, which certainly a very important part of any car audio system as you do want to hear what is playing. Yet again there are many styles out there from say the cone version through the ribbon version, and each one has its own advantages and disadvantages (this is something you will need to look at more closely). At a later stage I will write an article relating to this area of the car audio system. Also where you place the speakers within your vehicle can make all the difference as well.

Next we come onto the amplifier, which allows the system to amplify or increase the signals from the unit to make them audible. You will find that there are various models of these also available from the mono, to the stereo right through to the multi-channel version.

When looking at purchasing a car audio system the ranges available start from the more basic style through to the very high end quality systems or if you want something a little more funky you can get that also. Although a basic system will not normally be too expensive and the sound quality is usually quite good, the components it is made of are only of a standard quality. Also when looking at a car audio system you need to decide on what it will be used for, say for example you decide you do not require a tape player but are after a CD player then it is better to spend your money investing in a good quality CD player rather than a cheap combination model (tape & CD player).

If you decide to purchase a basic system then only allow for front speakers and avoid getting rear ones.

The more advanced models that are now on the market are not only more compact in size, but may come with or without a remote control and various other features that you can not begin to comprehend.

However, you purchase at the end of the day will all depend on your budget and personal choice and whether you which to build your own unit or buy an system already for installation. You may find that many of the brandied name versions are more expensive, although they do come with a guarantee and are usually much easier to service. For such things as speakers it is always advisable to purchase speakers a reliable and tested manufacturer (don’t forget if the sound quality is bad, you’ve wasted money which can have easily been put forward to purchase a better set of speakers).
