Biography – Mark Hunter





Mark Hunter is one of the most sought-after producers of high quality fishing flies in the world. His attention to detail, and ability to make virtually any fly design has helped hundreds of fly fishing enthusiasts dramatically increase their catch rate.



Born and raised in Cumbria, the home of the English Lake District, he began dressing flies in 1988 out of frustration over the poor quality of mass produced flies. Mark knew that by using the best hooks and materials and taking a little extra time, he could produce superior fishing flies that would really make a difference to the fly fishing experience.



Mark’s philosophy on fly fishing is that fishermen should always plan ahead and ensure they have the right flies to suit the fishing conditions and environment, as it minimises the risk of a poor catch. Mark’s extensive experience means he can offer helpful advice to make sure his customers get the right flies to enhance their fishing trip.



He has hundreds of letters and emails from appreciative customers, many of whom, cite examples of ruined fishing holidays due to inferior flies.



Before setting up his fishing fly business, Mark worked as a plasterer and decorator. While he was successful in this world, he was uneasy with the need for ‘speed first – quality later’. Making fishing flies allows Mark to take the time and the attention to detail he craved.
