If you belong to a gym then you know you have a plethora of fitness equipment to choose from. Sometimes with so many choices you get so overwhelmed that you just stick to what you know best and never really venture outside of your comfort zone to use anything new.

I ran into this same issue until I met a guy there that told me about a few different machines to give a try to, like the pull up machine, which was ok, but not my favorite. It is a machine where you do pull ups but if you do not have the strength to do a pull up this machine assists by using weight to push you up over the bar. I was never a big fan of pull ups to begin with but this machine definitely helps increase strength in that area.

Another machine, well it's not really a machine but more so a "station", is the T-bar row. This is where you straddle a long bar, kind of like a bench press bar, putting weights on one end and then pull the weight side of the bar towards your chest. It is a good affective machine and routine for working those back muscles. I really like the T-Bar row. I always feel like I am hitting those back muscles really well.

A third machine is the free weight, seated calf raise machine. You sit down and this bar lies across your thighs just above your knees. You then use your calf muscles to raise and lower the bar. You can add as much weight as you would like as it is a free weight machine which I like better then the nautilus one. This exercise movement really hits those calves.

So there you have three machines your gym probably has that you might not consider since you like the good old fashioned exercises you are used to. Give them a try you just might like them.

--

About the Author:
Mr. Tucker is the senior editor for Weight Loss Nation, an online resource where you can learn about various tips on weight loss, fitness and nutrition.

He is also a regular contributor on Mike's How To Blog, a free resource on how to do just about anything.

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

When people hear of weight loss specifically exercise they invariable think of long hours in the gym surrounded by leotards, spandex and steroid muscle bound freaks. I can tell you that all of that is completely incorrect if that is what you think of a gym. But if going to a gym scares the daylights out of out you and you do not want to buy weights to make up your own home gym, here are some non-traditional exercises that you can do. They won't get you ready for the Olympics but they will give you the daily exercise that you need and should be getting.

Yard Work
If you are fortunate like me and own a home that comes with a yard, then you have built in daily exercise just waiting for you. Mowing the lawn, pruning the bushes are all forms of exercise that will help you lose weight. The best part is your landscaping will great to!

Walk Your Dog
I love animals. I have been a dog owner my entire life and could not imagine what life would be like without one. They bring an undying loyalty and friendship into your life like no other pet (and some humans) can. But did you also know that they can bring some exercise in your life as well? Well they can in the form of their daily walk. You see dogs need daily exercise as well as their trip outside to do their "business". Combining your walk with the dog's walk is a great way to get some exercise for the both of you. When I walk my dog I start off slow letting him do "his thing", and then once that is done I pick up the pace and get a nice brisk walk in. Try not to walk in hot temperatures and always bring water for the both of you.

Wash Your Car
Yes washing your car is a form of exercise. You are moving, stretching, bending, and lifting buckets of water. It gets your body moving in all different directions and the best part is when you are done you car is clean. Don't forget to add even more exercise to this tip by doing some detail work on the inside such as vacuuming the floor mats, wiping down the dashboard and so on.

House Cleaning
Let's face it you have to clean your house. Unless you are a slob you need to do the dishes, vacuum the carpets, and wash your clothes. All of these tasks are forms of exercises. If you have a multi-level house like I do where you have to go up and down steps to do these chores you will be adding even more exercise to your daily routine.

So there you have it four different ways you can incorporate a non traditional means of exercise into your routine on a daily basis and at the same time get some things done that you have been putting off.

Increase Your Google Page Rank With These Tips

The search engine is called Google and for all intents and purposes it is perceived to be the Holy Grail of all internet searches. More people "Google" something everyday than any other search engine on the internet. If you go to Google and type in any keyword to search on, in a matter of seconds hundreds of thousands of results will be returned.

How does Google do it? It is simply their page ranking and indexing algorithm. Formulated by a couple of college friends from Stanford University, they were able to devise a scheme in such a way where each website is indexed and ranked on the internet. They call this the Google page rank.

The Google page rank or "pr" for short is a system that ranks a website from 0 to 10 with 0 being the lowest. Then when someone searches certain keywords Google returns the pages that are ranked higher first. In order to keep an updated ranking of the web, Google crawls the internet about twice to three times per year and indexes each website and sends their page rank up or down based on their popularity.

So how does Google know how popular a website is? It is based on the number of quality links pointing back to it. The higher pr a website has that is pointing back to your website the more favorable it is looked upon by Google. For example, the New York Daily News has a pr of 8. If you were to receive a link from the New York Daily News back to your site that would help boost your PR (if it were lower of course), however you pointing back to the New York Daily News would not carry as much weight in the ranking system. For the Daily News it would still help them but not as much as their link back to you would help your site.

There are a couple of good ways to get good quality links back to your website. The first is to partake in conversations on blogs and other written articles where you add quality feedback and in your comment post a link back to your website. When you add comments you want them to add value to the discussion. If they seem like you are just trying to get your link in there chances are your comment will be deleted.

The second way is adding content to the world wide web. People that use the internet are hungry for valuable information. You are an expert on something and you need to write about it. What you want to do is write articles that are about 350 to 750 words in length and offer valuable content. If you are an auto mechanic write about how to properly check your tires for tread wear. If you worked as a handyman, offer some tips on how to repair small holes in drywall. You get the point. Than at the bottom of the article you are going to put in your author resource information. It would read like this, "John Doe is a 15 year experienced auto mechanic specializing in tune ups, brakes and front end alignments, you can learn more about John's work at abc.com." The resource gives you a chance to tell readers of your article that you are experienced so the advice you are giving is valid and also gives them a way to get in touch with you.

Now that you have your articles written what do you with them? You want to submit them to article directories so they can be used by others around the world. You can post them to sites like EzineArticles or ArticleDashboard. These are free sites where your articles are posted and then others looking for content for their site will go there and use your article as it is written, link and all, and post it on their site. The more articles you write and post, the more back links you will get.

Finally, I need to make mention of one fact that a lot of web site owners overlook when it comes the Google pr. Time is your friend and enemy. When you create your website it usually takes anywhere from 2 to 4 months before Google will even take a look it. That is because most websites get removed within the first couple of months. So do not get discouraged if you write a hundred articles in the first two months and your PR is still zero. It will jump up once Google puts your site into its rotation.

Now once you are in Google's indexing rotation, the older your website is the more favorable Google looks at it. A website that has been around for 10 years will look better than a website that has been around for 10 days. So as long as your website is active and you are building those back links with article content, Google will automatically start increasing your pr.

In the world of SEO development, a pr 10 is like reaching the top of Mount Everest. Stick with these tips, stay focused and you will reach the top.

--
About the Author:

Mr. Tucker is the Associate Director of http://www.Indocquent.com, an online resource and social network, where you can advertise your business, products or services without pay-per-click prices or auction fees.

Download Indocquent's free social bookmark utility for your website or blog by Clicking here

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

If I had to say there was one type of exercise that I absolutely despise it is probably cardio. That is probably not the sentence you were expecting me to start with, but I feel I had to say it since I know many of you out there feel the same. I think my bad feeling towards cardio is more of a mental thing than anything physical, but to me there is nothing more boring than doing cardiovascular activity.

However, I also know that if I want to continue a good weight loss exercise program than I need to incorporate cardio into my routines at least three days a week for a minimum of twenty minutes per day. What I have found is that although many think of cardio as doing aerobics, running or jogging on a treadmill, there are many of other types of cardio that you can do to keep it fresh and fun.

If you belong to a gym than chances are you have a plethora of machines to choose from like stair masters, elliptical trainers, treadmills, stationary bikes and rowing machines. You are in a very fortunate situation. I have found that use of all of these machines will keep you motivated to doing your cardio routine. For example, on Mondays you could do the rowing machine, Wednesdays the treadmill, Fridays the stair master and then on your next week, mix it up and throw in something new.

This keeps it constantly changing and in turn seems like it is new and fresh. Just remember to perform twenty minutes of whatever you do, vigorously, for three days out of the week.

There is no need to worry just because you do not have a gym membership. You still have plenty of options. You could take a brisk walk or jog in your neighborhood. You could jump on your bike and take a nice, yet brisk, ride, or you can hit the local park and partake in a basketball game or something along those lines.

There are endless possibilities when it comes to making sure you get your twenty minutes of cardio in at least three times per week. All you need to do is find out what you like, what keeps you motivated and then do it. A friend of mine joined a local basketball league for guys his age. He plays twice a week and then on his third day he rides his bike for twenty minutes. I know a neighbor of mine chops wood. Yes that’s right he chops wood. Since he has a wood burning fireplace, he forgoes the log splitter and cuts all of this wood by hand, well actually he uses an ax, but you get the point. He says it’s a great way for him to get some exercise in and at the same time do something that has to be done before winter sets in.

As you can see there are a variety of cardiovascular activities to choose from. Not all cardio routines have to be cut and dry like jogging or running. Find one or a few that interests you and just go and do it.

Just remember as with any type of exercise routine you should consult with your physician first to make sure you can handle the workload.

--

About the Author:
Mr. Tucker is the senior editor for Weight Loss Nation, an online resource where you can learn about various weight loss, fitness and nutrition tips.

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

When we go on vacation of course we want to have fun but a lot times we also want vacation, and it usually turns out that way, to be educational as well. What I mean is that even though we are having a good time on vacation we learn quite a bit about things we never knew about.

A few years back we went a cruise that included a stop at Grand Cayman. If you have never been there I highly recommend it. It was absolutely beautiful there and the local people that we ran into were extremely friendly, kind and courteous.

During our stop on Grand Cayman we booked Don Foster’s Dive Cayman “Swim with the Stingrays” excursion. This is a day trip where they take you out to a place in the middle of the Caribbean called Stingray City and you dawn some snorkel gear and swim with real live stingrays. This is not a closed off or secluded sanctuary for these animals but an actual area in the ocean where the stingrays come to be around people. As you can imagine, it his highly illegal to go fishing anywhere near Stingray City. I am not sure of what the fine would be, nor would I want to know, but we were told it was pretty significant.

Along with swimming with the stingrays you also get to feed and pet them. That alone would have made it a great experience. However, unlike the other boats that came and went, Don Foster’s took the extra time to not only allow you to have fun but educate you as well.

We learned a number of things about the stingray’s habitat, the sizing, the color of the species, how Stingray City got started, and of course a complete tutorial on how to feed them. What I noticed about the other boats that were there was they brought people in to mingle with the stingrays but that was about it, which is fine, but adding the education factor to the trip was an added bonus and one that I highly recommend.

If you are going to Grand Cayman anytime soon, look up Don Foster’s Dive Cayman. For our particular excursion they did a real nice job, making you feel right at home, in the middle of the Caribbean surrounded by these gracious sea creatures known as stingrays.

--

About the Author:
Mr. Tucker is the senior editor for Vacation Nation, an online vacation resource where you can learn about various destinations and travel tips.

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

4 Tips on Nutrition to Help with Your Weight Loss Routine

Nutrition is a major part of all weight loss routines. Exercise alone will only take you so far, but if you do not give your body the building blocks it needs to recuperate, regenerate, and rebuild, you will see absolutely no progress. When people do not see results from their hard work studies have shown that the rate people that stop exercising reaches over ninety percent.

So do yourself a favor and heed the advice of these tips that I am about to give you so you do not fall into that ninety percentile failure rate. Failing is never a bad thing in itself. What makes failing bad is not learning from what caused you to fail in the first place. You need to take that knowledge and use it to head in the right direction.

Eat More Often

The first tip that is essential to any nutrition program is to eat often. Now that may seem like the complete opposite of everything you have ever learned but it is absolutely true. When I say you need to eat more often what I mean is you should spread your meals out over the course of the entire day. Gone are the days of eating three large meals. Instead replace that old routine with eating six meals throughout the day about one every two and a half to three hours. These six meals will be smaller in size that the three you are accustomed to. I will get to that in a little bit.

Plate the Right Ingredients

The next tip when it comes to your nutrition plan is to make sure that every plate or bowl of food that you prepare has protein, carbohydrates and green vegetables on it. They should all be equal in size, and I will get to portion size in a moment, although you can eat more of the green vegetables if you still feel like you need some extra food on your plate.

Portion the Right Size

One of the many questions that comes up in any diet or nutrition program is, how much food can you actually eat? The answer is simpler than you probably would think. Now I know many weight loss places have you weigh this and measure that and that will give you a more definitive account of what you are taking in, but for simplicity reasons and for the reason in most people cases, that way is really impractical.

Most people just do not have the time to play scientist in the morning when they are preparing breakfast. So here is what you can do to ensure you are getting the proper amount of protein, carbohydrates and vegetables. Go ahead and make a fist. It does not matter which hand you use, they should be the same size, at least my hands are. Now squeeze tightly. Do you see your clenched fist? That is the serving size for each ingredient on your plate. It really is that simple. You can have more green vegetables than your clenched fist if you feel like you need more food, but the rule of thumb is portion sizes are the same size as your clenched fist.

Cheat for Sanity Sake

So when do I get to eat chocolate or ice cream? How about that greasy burger or pizza? Do not panic you will get to eat all of that more. Sort of. What I recommend is that you pick one day out of your week, I call it the “cheat” day, and eat whatever you want. If you want pizza, go ahead and eat pizza. If you need to hit the fast food restaurant for some deep fried chicken tenders and french fries that is ok also. On your cheat day, eat whatever you want, whenever you want. This day allows you to get it out of your system. Denying your body something you crave for a long period, in my opinion is what leads people to get off their diets in the first place. Knowing that you will have one day each week where you can just let yourself go will make the world of a difference.

Follow these four tips for your nutrition plan, combined with a solid exercise program, drink plenty of water, and you will be on your way to successful weight loss.

Just remember as with any exercise or nutrition program, get a complete physical from your doctor prior to starting.

--

About the Author:
Mr. Tucker is the senior editor for Weight Loss Nation, an online resource where you can learn about various weight loss, exercise, fitness and nutrition tips.

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

A few years back my wife and I decided to go on a cruise to Bermuda for our wedding anniversary. Normally we would take a weekend trip somewhere within a reasonable driving distance, but in this particular year we really wanted to go on a cruise.

We chose the Royal Caribbean cruise line as our means for vacation for this particular trip. We chose Royal Caribbean because they offered a cruise to Bermuda from a local port within an hour drive from our house.

On most cruise vacations that my wife and I take we try to treat ourselves to something special. It could a massage, or an exciting excursion, but you can always count on us doing something as an added piece of excitement for our vacation.

This time we wanted to try something new on the cruise ship. On this particular Royal Caribbean ship they had a specialty restaurant called Portofino’s. I understand that they have added this same restaurant to all of their new ships, and after having one dinner there I can understand why.

We considered this a treat because there is an added expense of $25 per person to dine at Portofino’s. Some people asked us why we would pay to dine on a cruise ship when the food is included at sit down dinners and of course at the buffet. Prior to us dining there we thought the same thing, but then also thought to give it a try and experience it just once.

Dining in the specialty restaurant is far different than what you will experience elsewhere on the ship. When you walk into Portofino’s it is similar to walking into a five star establishment. The waiters and waitresses are dressed to the utmost professional attire. That is not to say that the waiters and waitresses in other dining areas do not look professional, but Royal Caribbean makes the specialty restaurant help go a step further.

When dining you are given a menu of many choices of appetizers, salads, soups and main courses to choose from. Many differ from what you would find at your normal sit down meal, however there are also some familiar choices as well. As with your sit down dinner or buffet, it is still all you can eat, so if you wanted to try a couple different appetizers or entrees they will accommodate your request. The best part is they will scale down your order for the amount of food you eat (if you so wish).

In other words if you order two appetizers, lets say escargot and duck, instead of getting two full appetizer portions they will gladly split each down to a half serving size. I like this option as it makes me feel like I am not wasting food.

The restaurant also has floor to ceiling windows so you can enjoy the view of Bermuda (or wherever your ship is going/docked). Light sounds of classical music plays in the background and because space is limited the conversational noise from surrounding tables is very low.

Overall I would rate our experience at Royal Caribbean’s Portofino specialty restaurant, on a scale of one to five where five is the best, a five. We received great food, excellent service and the ambiance was outstanding. Add all of this up and it far outweighs the nominal $25 cost.

We liked it so much that we recommended it to our friends. On their next cruise they tried it and absolutely loved it as well. Give it a shot I am sure you will not be disappointed.

--

About the Author:
Mr. Tucker is the senior editor for Vacation Nation, an online vacation resource where you can learn about various destinations and travel tips.

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

Add the Stability Ball to Your Weight Loss Routine

I am always looking to add different exercise routines to my weight loss program. I have found that changing my routine every four to six weeks keeps my weight loss program fresh and new.

Studies have shown that without a change to your exercise routine your muscles will stop growing. This occurs because they, your muscles that is, acclimate to what you have exposed them to, in this case the same routine.

Many experts agree that a change in your routine about every six weeks is ideal for muscle growth. One of the items that really has added a different perspective to my workout routines is the use of a stability ball.

A stability ball is a large ball usually 55 to 65 centimeters in diameter that you use to perform all kinds of exercises on. The stability ball gives you the opportunities to not only perform your normal exercise routines that you can on a bench, but use your stabilizer muscles that just do not get worked on a flat bench.

It is these muscles that provide you with balance. So by working these muscles you can improve that area on your body as well.

Beyond that the stability ball is very versatile. You can use it to workout with dumbbells by laying on it (both on your back or stomach) or by sitting on it. It also is very useful for doing various abdominal exercises. You can sit on the ball and raise your knees toward your chest. This is an advance movement, and one that takes some time to learn, but definitely a really good one. You can also lay on the floor and prop the ball underneath your knees and do a crunch. This helps keeping your legs raised so you can focus in on the ab region.

With the stability ball you can also use it to perform a variety of stretches and yoga movements. Because the ball moves (as do most round objects), you can maneuver it in such a way to meet the needs of your program.

If you belong to a gym chances are they have one or many of these. If they do not you should really ask them to add it to their product line. If you have a home gym you should definitely add it.

When you go to purchase one make sure you read the label and get the right size. Each size is developed to accommodate the weight of a person that will be using it. If you get one to small you might break it and if you get one too large it will be unusable.

Just remember, as always, before you start any exercise routine with any type of equipment, make sure you consult with your doctor first to get their approval.

--

About the Author:
Mr. Tucker is the senior editor for Weight Loss Nation, an online resource where you can learn about various weight loss, fitness and nutrition tips.

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

Boating is an enjoyable time. Even with the ever increasing cost of fuel these days, although oil is starting to come back down to reality, boating offers a sense of enjoyment on the water you just can not get from land.

Discover Boating is running a funny commercial. I am sure you can check it out on YouTube. The commercial shows people driving in their car and waiving to everyone they see on the streets. The people that are being waived to just ignore them or look at them like they are crazy, as if they are saying, "why in the world would someone be friendly to me on a Tuesday in the middle of the work week?"

The commercial than skips to the same family cruising along in their boat and show them doing the same thing, waiving to people, on the water as they pass by the other boats. Of course the people in the other boats also waive back. If you have ever been on a boat then you already know that this commercial is not sensationalized and is reality.

People on the water respond to others better than they do on land. My theory is because when on the water you are having fun, or at least trying to. With the high cost of gas, congestion, and other factors, driving is not the fun activity it once was, many, and I mean many years ago. Boating however is.

There are a variety of styles and types to choose from and of course that is mainly due to what you intend to use your boat for. Are you going fishing? Want to hit a swimming hole on the river? Maybe you just want to cruise around the big lake. Whatever it is you plan on doing with your boat there is a style out there for you.

First determine what you want to do on the water. For me I love fishing in the Ocean off the Jersey coast in the summer time. Even though they raised the length restrictions on fluke and sea bass, it hasn't deterred me from going. A fishing boat is perfect for me, with some storage; however I have no need for a galley or sleeping quarters so that helps save on cost. I need speed to get to where I am going as I do not want to spend most of my day taking forever to get where the fish are. There are a variety to choose from such as Great White, Boston, and Trophy. I prefer the Trophy boat specifically their walk around models with the T-top center console.

For my mother-in-law she likes to cruise and take the grand kids to a swimming hole along the Chesapeake. She likes to fish, but it is not a priority. She definitely isn't spending anytime sleeping over night on the boat, yet needs the room for all the people she wants to bring. Speed is not a factor, but needs enough of it to get where she is going. She chose a pontoon boat made by Princecraft. It gives her everything that I described above and then some.

If you were thinking about getting a boat, there is no real wrong time or right time, although now is better than any because you can pick up used boats practically dirt cheap, at least in my area anyway.

Before plunging into buying a boat make sure you take some Coast Guard certified courses to familiarize yourself with safety procedures and boating regulations. Knowing them will take you a long way in ensuring a fun, safe and enjoyable experience.

--

About the Author:
Mr. Tucker is the senior editor for Vacation Nation, an online vacation resource where you can learn about various destinations and travel tips.

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

"Ability is what you're capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it." By: Lou Holtz: Former football coach, author, motivational speaker

Regardless of whether it is sports or business this quote by the legendary football coach Lou Holtz really sums up how you should be looking at building your business.

If you are thinking of starting your own business or maybe you already are a new entrepreneur, you need to develop this mindset. It is this mindset that will help propel you to each new level in your business and increase your chances of success.

What really are your abilities? If you can not answer this off the top of your head that is alright as many people really need to do some soul searching for what they are actually good at it. Chances are you are no different. Sit down and define what your abilities are. What do you excel at? What do you enjoy so much that it makes the ability of what you do that much better?

These are very important questions to ask yourself as you define your strengths and weaknesses. We all have strengths, the things we excel at, and we all have weaknesses, those things that we struggle with. If you can clearly define what both of these are, it will help determine the type of people, technology or anything else that will help your business, that you need to bring in to complement you.

For example, if you are good at developing software code yet hate keeping accounting books, what type of person do you need to help you out? This one is easy, an accountant, right? Find out what your weaknesses are and then develop your plan to overcome them. Many are not as easy as this example, then again sometimes they are.

Now that you have determined that your ability will define your strengths and weaknesses and that you can overcome them, how do you get motivated every day to keep going even when things look bad?

To get and stay motivated you need to determine what your goals are. What are you trying to accomplish? What is the end result of all of your hard work? I can tell you that if it is simply money, you won't stay motivated for long. The reason is no one goes from broke to billionaire fast enough when the motivation is money. You will lose your motivation rather quickly.

Ask yourself what your business, products or services actually do to help people. Does it make them do something faster? Does it make life easier? Does it help a business produce more? Only you can answer these questions. Keep in mind to answer them honestly. Once you know the answers you stay motivated by tracking your own progress as you get closer to the end result.

For a number of years I developed software in the pharmaceutical industry. I knew when the software product was completed it would be used to collect and analyze data on new drug discoveries. Sure I like to write code and made a nice living doing it, but the motivation was to see these products get to market and watch them in use. Knowing that new drugs were discovered that helped people fight diseases and other ailments was a huge motivation for me. Find out what yours does. That will be motivation enough for you.

The final piece of this puzzle is your attitude. As Lou Holtz puts it, this will determine how well you do it, whatever it is. This one is simple. You need to keep telling yourself that whatever it is your business does regardless of whether it is a product or service, your name is forever stamped on it. That product or service is a reflection of you and who you are. If it is an awesome product people are going to think more highly of you. If it is a product or service that isn't so good, chances are your customers won't come back and more than likely not recommend you to others.

Combine these three efforts in your business will go a long way to helping your products sell and your services get hired.

--

About the Author:
Mr. Tucker is the Associate Director of http://www.Indocquent.com, an online resource and social network, where you can advertise your business, products or services without pay-per-click prices or auction fees.

Download Indocquent`s free social bookmark utility for your website or blog by Clicking here

Source: http://www.articletrader.com
