Imagine a warm summer evening, a glass of wine, a meal on the way, even maybe a barbeque. Now comes the decision, eat indoors or if you are lucky enough to have a patio, outside on the patio table.

The trouble is the light is fading, what you need is outdoor lighting.

There are many alternatives these days. Electric lighting or solar powered lighting, coloured lights, spotlights to accentuate features or plants, floodlights, we are spoiled for choice. But there is another way, garden candles. Have a garden candle on your patio table or use outdoor candle lanterns. Used outside candle lanterns can look very effective providing a soft flickering light that is very calming.

One downside of eating in the open air on a summer evening can be insects. We are a tasty meal for those little pests and they are not slow to take advantage as we sit eating and enjoying ourselves. Insect repellent candles can be a great help. Provence insect repellent scented candles contain an aromatic blend of fresh Provencal herbs with extracts of lavender to naturally repel insects. They are to be had as torches, long burning pillar candles, tealights for standalone or use in outdoor candle lanterns, in a candle tin and even as a floating candle. In fact you can probably find a Provence candle to suit most outdoor situations.

Another trendy option is to use a citronella candle and these are for outdoor use only where a Provence candle can also be used indoors. Citronella candles are available as long burning pillar candles or alternatively try the citronella tea light candles. With their rich yellow colour they look good enough to eat as well as being a great addition to your outdoor décor.

Be imaginative, put a candle on your patio table, use outdoor candle lanterns, firm a torch into the ground or into a patio pot of sand or just place tea lights on saucers.

Think about your garden as an extension of your indoor living space, a place to relax, have barbeques and sit at our patio tables to have a formal meal or sip a wine or whatever preferred tipple. Given reasonable weather make the most of that precious outdoor space.

When you have done the daily commute, prepared the evening meal and the sun has gone down but the evening is still young and warm, eat outside enjoying both the good food, fresh air and the garden. All we need is something to light that patio and garden so why not opt for the little luxury of outdoor candles and enjoy those all too short summer months.

Rodger Cresswell

--
Rodger Cresswell is Consultant to JC Regali, online retailer of quality candles including garden candles.

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

So you have made the first big and brave decision. You have looked in the mirror and recognised that you need to lose some weight. Good for you, there are many, many people who should be making this decision for the good of their health and do not. It is so easy to look in the mirror and think that we are not really that overweight and we puffed and panted going down the road because there was a bit of a breeze against. If you are one of the latter then carry on with your gambling lifestyle, because that is what it is. You are taking a gamble with your health and one day the dice may not roll your way.

Still reading? Good.

Finding the right diet for you is the first big step to take. Try to avoid the quick weight loss, short term faddy diets solutions. Yes you will lose weight in the short term but are unlikely to be able to keep to the strict and not very pleasing regime for too long. Unless you are one of these worrying people who go to extremes to keep the weight off, usually to an unhealthy level,
you will give up the regime, feel a failure, start eating more than you should and end up where you started. Well almost where you started, your wallet will probably be a lot lighter.

Preferably find a diet regime that concentrates on controlling the intake of good quality food. Learn to enjoy your food but only consume the portion that your body needs. This way you stand a greater chance of reducing your weight to a sensible level and keeping it there, and do not think you have to become a stick insect, you do not, we were not meant to be that way.

Many will be happy just to lose a little weight and maintain it but there will be as many again who would like to go further. Going further means adding an exercise regime to your diet plan.

The best exercise to start with is walking. Don't go crazy to start with, build it up slowly. A gentle walk for twenty minutes and, when used to that, speed it up and if possible increase to two walks per day. You will be surprised the difference it makes and how much better you feel. Can you walk to work instead of catching the bus or taking the car?

One question I get asked is can you use a treadmill at home instead of going out for a walk. Of course you can. However make sure you get the best you can afford and do try it out to make sure you have the best one to suit you. Buy the wrong type for you and the result will be damage to your knees and that can result in discomfort in the hips and spine. A treadmill can be very useful in times of bad weather but it can be much more interesting to get out into the fresh air.

Having started with a walking regime you may feel the urge to move on and the natural next step is to join a gym. If there is not a gym in your neighbourhood, or if there is it and it is too expensive, or maybe your hectic lifestyle makes it difficult to find the time for an hour a day to go to a gym and exercise, some form of home fitness training equipment is the solution. As long as you have the space of course.

These days there are so many different types of home fitness equipment available on the market and you need to do your research to make sure you get what is best for you and your regime. It is no good buying something that gives you great thighs if what you are trying to achieve is a flatter stomach!

Make a start on that healthier lifestyle or, if you have, maintain your resolve because it is possible to achieve and will be very worthwhile. Just remember that before making any dramatic changes to your diet or exercise you should get yourself checked over by your doctor.

--

William (Bill) White of Start to Diet writes on subjects relating to weight loss, healthy diet and healthy lifestyle.

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

Losing Weight - Don't Be a Victim of Those Weight Loss Program Promises

You already know the answer to this question, proceed with caution.

Make no mistake, there are great weight loss programs on the market and you have to choose the right one for you. What is the right one for you? The regime that you believe you can follow, stick with and achieve the result you targeted. That makes the assumption that you have done your homework and eliminated the programs that are more hype than substance.

Thanks for that you may be saying but how do I know which are more hype than substance?

Does the marketing and sales pitch promise an amazing amount of weight loss in a short time? If so, avoid it as you are likely to suffer to reach their targets, have to pay a visit to your doctor and end up putting all that weight back on as you cannot sustain the program and give up. Your wallet might lose weight but not you.

Once over the initial substantial loss does the program detail step by step continued steady weight loss from then on? No, thought not.

Does the program mention the need for gentle exercise to support your weight loss attempts? It is necessary and does not have to be excessive.

The regime should emphasise the need to eat good food but in smaller portions. Avoid anything that suggests that you just live on special supplements. Just think of the cost, it will not be cheap although you probably will lose some weight.

A good diet program should encourage you to set realistic goals that lead you to your desired target and that desired target should be a healthy weight, not so thin you cannot cast a shadow in bright sunlight.

If the diet plan advocates one meal a day and very little else, avoid it. You will find it hard to deal with mentally, become stressed and maybe even eventually find yourself struggling not to go on a binge.

What it comes down to is do your research and try to see through the sales and marketing hype. Most of us need help when we quite rightly decide to take better care of ourselves and ongoing support for the times when we start to falter. There is nothing wrong with that, we are all human and have human failings. A fact of life. Stick with your resolve and go with a weight loss program that allows you to eat so that you can live your life but also controls your diet resulting in that desired weight loss.

--

William (Bill) White of Start to Diet writes on subjects relating to weight loss, healthy diet and healthy lifestyle.

Source: http://www.articletrader.com
