The Spice Girls signed a contract to Virgin Records, but they were without a manager, which made recording a debut album nearly impossible. All five members moved into a house and went on the ‘dole’ as they searched for a manager. By the end of 1995, the group had signed with Annie Lennox's manager Simon Fuller, and began writing songs with Elliot Kennedy. "Wannabe," Spice Girls' first single, was released in the summer of 1996, and it became the first debut single by an all-female band to enter the charts at number one in England. It remained at number one for seven weeks, and by the end of the year, "Wannabe" had hit number one in 21 other countries. Their second single, "Say You'll Be There," entered the charts at number one in the fall, selling 200,000 copies a week. Spice, their debut album, was released at the end of the year, accompanied by their first ballad, "2 Become 1." Both the album and single went directly to #1, staying there for several weeks.



Having topped the charts in virtually every other country in the Western world, The Spice Girls concentrated on America in early 1997, releasing "Wannabe" in January and the album Spice in February.



The Spice Girls became massive stars in the U.S. as well and when Spiceworld, their second album, appeared later in the year in conjunction with their feature film of the same name they propelled to even bigger fame.



However, in May 1998, Geri Halliwell departed from the band, not citing major reasons for leaving the group. Still not deterred by the absence of Ginger Spice, Spice Girls trudged on. By Christmas, Spice Girls scored a number one hit with Goodbye. Soon the Spice Girls because more noticeable for their social status than their singing, and they took a well-deserved break. The following year, the girls headed back into the studio with high-profile producers Rodney Jerkins, Terry Lewis, and Jimmy Jam to record a follow-up to their pop-friendly Spiceworld.



Spice Girls' creative power overruled media scrutiny so that they could fully focus on the new R&B sound they were trying for and a the new collaboration united the foursome once again to release the third album Forever, which hit American shores in fall 2000.



The group began to splinter not long after the release of Forever, which made little impact outside of the UK where it only had one hit single - the chart-topping double-sided single Holler/Let Love Lead the Way - before the Spice Girls stopped promoting the album. Just three months after the album's November 2000 release, the band announced that they were separating in February of 2001.



Over the next few years, the Spice Girls may not have existed as a group but they were never out of various taboild headlines in the UK and the US. Despite these losses, the Ravens still have familiar faces coming back in 2007. And some question how well the new offense will work together. Quarterback Steve McNair is back once again to lead the the Ravens in offense. Some believe that McNair's age might come into question. Despite that McNair threw over 3,000 yards with a completion percentage of 63.7%, McNair also only threw just 16 touch down passes against 12 interceptions. For the Baltimore Ravens to put up a legitimate offense, McNair will definitely have to improve his touchdown total.

To fill the empty running back position left empty by the departure of Jamal Lewis, the Ravens have brought on Willis McGahee. McGahees' talents have been unproven at this point as last year he was mediocre at best while playing for Buffalo with 990 yards and and six touchdowns in 14 games. Also, last year he only caught 18 passes out of the backfield. Another question surrounding McGahee is his health. While playing in Miami he bent his knee in the wrong direction and it has been an issue. Still, some critics believe that the extent of McGahee's talent has already been proven.

Wide receiver Derrick Mason's ability is also in question because of his age. Last year, Mason had one of his worst years in the league. Playing in all 16 games, Mason had just 68 catches for 750 yards and two touchdowns. Someone who emerged as a talented wide receiver was Mark Clayton. After a slow start, Clayton had 67 catches for 939 yards with five touchdowns. Many are expecting a big year from Mark Clayton. Covering the tight end is Todd Heap. Heap is considered the 'new age' tight end. Heap does more than catch the occasional pass. He plays like a wide receiver and in this offense he has proven that he is just as dangerous, if not more so, than Derrick Mason or Mark Clayton.

That all being said, the Baltimore Ravens have a stacked defense. The Ravens defense is one of the main reasons that the Ravens went an incredible 13-3 last season. Defensively, many eyes will be on fourth year pro Jarret Johnson, who will take over at outside linebacker for free agent defection Adalius Thomas. Of course, losing Thomas will hurt, with with Trevor Pryce up at the front, Bart Scott, Ray Lewis, and Terrell Suggs at LB and Chris McAlister, Ed Reed, and Samarie Rolle in the secondary, the Ravens will win games with this defense. Also, despite Rolle's disappointing performance last year, if he is healthy, look for a good season from Rolle.

Despite some predictions out there of the playoffs again and a much better year, many are expecting an up and down year from the Ravens.

Some were also questioning why the Dolphins were trying so hard to to attain Trent Green from the clutches of the Chiefs. In all honesty, Green is not the same quarterback who led the Chiefs six years ago. He was hit hard in the first week of the 2006 campaign and after coming back from his injury he averaged only 19.7 points per game when he was on the field. Also, one must consider his age - Green turned 37 this past July.



Offensively, many people believe that the 2007 season hinges on what the Dolphins get from the quarterback position. Some are still holding out for Dante to heal and return to form and some have high hopes for Trent Green. Still, so many questions linger than answers for Miami's offense at this point. There is only one player who, barring injury, is guaranteed to be a starter at the position he previously occupied last season, and that is running back Ronnie Brown. A few other starters, like Chris Chambers and Marty Booker should be returning, but Chambers' legal issues concerning a possible DWI and the possible emergence rookie Ted Ginn Jr. could jeopardize these two veterans in the starting line up come September. There are also some players switching positions. Vernon Carey, former right tackle, is moving to left tackle, while former right guard L.J. Shelton is moving to right tackle. Also, ex-center Rex Hadnot could possibly be shifted to right guard.



Other than that, every position along the offensive front will be now manned by a new players in the 2007 season. There will be new starters at quarterback, fullback, center, slot receiver and tight end. One position is till in question - left guard. Rookie Drew Mormino is up against Chris Liwienski for starting position. Also being considered are free-agents Pete Kendall or former Cardinal Milford Brown. However, none of these players are expected to turn the position of left guard into a position of strength any time soon.



Even though it is true that most NFL rosters are always in somewhat flux, the Miami Dolphins are in a more uncertain position that most. If one looks at some of the NFL's most consistent offensives, like the Rams, Colts, and Chargers, one can see that the idea of continuity works and will lead to success. As far as 2007, the Dolphins are majorly lacking in the continuity department.



One area that might have more continuity is the Dolphins defense. Holding the team together is the defense. The Dolphins saw their defense improve enough to be ranked fourth in the league for total defense and accumulated 47 sacks. Despite great statistics, critics fear that the Miami Dolphin defense has nowhere to go but down. This fear is mainly due to age. The Dolphins have the oldest front seven in the entire league, because five of their starters are at least 30. Zach Thomas turns 34 and Jason Taylor turns 33 in September. Keith Traylor is 37 while Vonnie Holliday will be 32 in December. And about to turn 30 is new Dolphin, Joey Porter. While Taylor is a team favorite and led the team with 13.5 sacks and dominated most offenses many are worried about the big '33'.



Statistically, the age of 33 is when most NFL players begin to rapidly decline. Despite this, many believe he will still collect at least 10 sacks. Also one must remember that Miami brought in Jo ey Porter to be a complimentary pass rusher. With over twenty million in signing bonuses, many were scratching their heads as to why? Some believe Porter was to be over-rated and was somewhat carried by his team in Pittsburgh. If Miami's sack total decreases, this could prove to be problematic for the secondary line.
Also to consider, the Dolphins have lost four members from their defensive line - Kevin Carter, David Bowens, Jeff Zgonina and Dan Wilkinson.



Despite these setbacks, the Dolphins should breeze through the month of September. The Dolphins as the team is an amazing 34-15 since 1992. They also have one of the top home records in the AFC since 1995, reaching a respectable 62-34 mark. Also add in Miami's scorching heat and humidity, the Dolphins have an edge in September. But they could run into some trouble in their final seven games: at Philadelphia, at Pittsburgh, home with the Jets, at Buffalo, home with Baltimore, at New England and Cincinnati. No one saw head coach Eric Mangini's first season going as well as it did, but this year the team is hoping it can make another run into the playoffs, especially since they only lost one starter. But the Jets face a tougher path through the regular season with a difficult schedule. In the 2007 schedule the faces the Jets they will find a whopping seven games against teams that made the playoffs in 2006, thanks mostly to them drawing the NFC East which fielded three playoff teams last season.



Despite the rough schedule looming ahead, the 2007 season should be looking bright for the New York Jets, especially their offense, even though they averaged nearly 20 points per game last season. Chad Pennington was healthy a season ago, and started all 16 games and also earned the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year Award. He will also have an entire off-season to get better, and his numbers should be improved this year. It will now be two years since his shoulder injury, so one can expect quarterback Chad Pennington to play better then he did in 2006. Pennington will still have wide receivers Jerricho Cotchery and Laveranues Coles at his disposal.



These two wide receivers combined for 173 catches, 2,059 yards and 12 touchdowns last season in 2006. Also signed is wide receiver Chansi Stuckey who could also serve as a punt returner. Stuckey was sixth in Clemson history with 141 receptions and eighth with 1,760 yards receiving. There are high hopes that Stuckey&n bsp;will add depth for the Jets. And left guard Pete Kendall is staying so the Jets' offensive line will be together for one more year. And considering that Pennington was sacked just 30 times last season, it shows how talented New York's front is.



One concern was New York's running game. One step in the right direction was the excellent offensive acquisition of the Bears running back Thomas Jones. Compared to any other running back on the Jets, this is a great upgrade. Last year, with the Bears, Jones compiled 1,210 rushing yards with the Bears in 2006 and six touchdowns. Jones was also the postseason's second-leading rusher with 301 yards, averaging 5.5 yards per attempt. He also scored four touchdowns in three playoff games. Also, with Leon Washington, the lightning-quick back, will be a nice change of pace who will keep opposing defenses on back on their heels. Washington's potential can be great considering he had 920 yards as a rookie from scrimmages.



One under-the-radar signing was the addition of full back Darian Barnes who was with the Dolphins. Barnes, going into his sixth season with the NFL, played in all 16 games for the Miami Dolphins last season in 2006, recording three receptions for 22 yards. Barnes is an effective straight-line blocker who has explosive force. Barnes is a player that knows how to use his size and strength to create inside running lanes which the Jets need.



As mentioned before, the Jets also have a very taxing schedule in 2007. Their games line up as Baltimore, Philadelphia, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and Dallas - all who are non-divisional foes. That being said, however, New York is expected to win on Washington, Cleveland, Tennessee, Kansas City and the Giants. With wunderkind Tom Brady, who is as good as it gets in the quarter back position, he can become very dangerous with a few more weapons in his arsenal.

The main need for the Patriots in 2007 was wide receiver. Dante Stallworth from the Eagles and Kelley Washington from the Bengals were added as well as Wes Welker from Miami and Randy Moss from the Raiders. The questions is, how well will they mesh with Brady? Moss is already believed to be the receiver and understandably so as he did very well in Minnesota. Moss puts tremendous amount of pressure on opposing defenses. He is explosive down field with excellent leaping ability. And lets not forget who the Partiots still have on the roster - Reche Caldwell, Chad Jackson, and Jabar Gaffney which gives the Patriots one of the deepest receiving teams in the NFL. And, as always, we have Tom Brady. He is undeniably in the prime of his career and one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, hands down.

With Corey Dillon gone, this may be Laurence Maroney time to shine, even considering that he has never been a featured back. However, Dillon leaves a large hole to fill. He led the Patriots in rushing and was great in the red zone and goal line. He was a huge part of the success New England had last year. Maroneys skills are still in question mainly because of his previous shoulder injury. Maroney had only 175 carries last year but racked up 745 yards on the ground. When in top form, Maroney has the running skills and ability to be an amazing player. He is able to place tremendous pressure on opposing defenses and will hopefully put up some great numbers in 2007. And let us not forget Kevin Faulk who is an terrific 3rd down back who caught 43 passes last year.

And one cannot forget the talented defense team the Patriots have. With Richard Seymor, Ty Warren, and one of the best nose tackles in the NFL Vince Wilfork, the Patriots have proven their commanding defense works. One of the more exciting New England additions this year is Thomas, who has shown that he can pretty much play anywhere. The Patriots also have three great, intelligent linebackers in Tedy Bruschi, Rosevelt Colvin, and Mike Vrabel. This group will prove to be a formidable group for any opposition. One weakness, however, may be that they aren't very deep at the corner. And one cannot forget the age and injuries that plague the safeties. That being said, however, most of the Patriots weakness is in the secondary.
With talent and expectations so high, one can rest assured that the Patriots will provide a very exciting 2007 season.

Taylor is a proven wideout with excellent skills. Regarding Mike Williams, maybe the absence of Randy Moss and the reunion with his USC coach Kiffin will help Williams get back into the shape he was in during his USC heydays. The other members of the WR group: Jerry Porter, Ronald Curry, Doug Gabriel, Will Buchanon, Johnnie Morant, and Alvis Whitted are all towers of powers at, or above 6' and almost all weighing in at 200lbs. or more. Add to the mix, 6'5 230lbs. Williams and you have quite a WR lineup.

The QB position is still up for grabs as Josh McCown comes to camp as the most experienced field commander. Also vying for that position is the very capable Andrew Walter. Let’s not forget JaMarcus Russell of course! However, some believe that he may be spending his time on the bench learning the basics for a 2008 to 2009 debt at starting position. QB is still a big question mark though, as we wait till season start to find out the answer to who will fill in as quarterback for the Silver and Black.

Defense is looking good with all 11 starters still in. Derrick Burgess is in prime shape. Warren Sapp is back with some more speed in his step as he lost 50lbs off season. Kirk Morrison has youthful energy and strength going for him as he heads off the LB group. The LBs themselves are young, fast, no-nonsense go-getters who seem to take to the ball like fish to water. The Raider’s secondary is one of the finest in NFL with Stuart Schweigart and Michael Huff playing safety, and Nnamdi Asomugha and Fabian Washington at cornerback.

To say that it looks to be an interesting season for the Oakland Raiders is an understatement. The playoffs may still be a remote possibility but the team is looking in better shape than before, so expect a whole slew of good games. Velvet Revolver recorded their first album, Contraband, in the latter part of 2003 and the album was released in June 2004. The first single, "Slither," topped a composite world modern rock chart in June, reached #1 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and #5 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart. On Thursday the 21st of June 2007, Velvet Revolver performed in a concert that was streamed live via MSN MUSIC.

After scrapping the original May 29 release date, Velvet Revolver has settled on July 3 to unveil its second RCA album, "Libertad." On June 23rd 2007, four songs of the album were available in full stream audio onto the internet ten days before retail on BestBuy's website. Libertad then debuted at #5 on Billboard 200 with 92,000 albums sold.

Despite incredible success, the band experienced inner turmoil and broke up in 1980. Eagles members Joe Walsh, Glenn Frey, and Don Henley both went on to respective solo careers. However, thirteen years after the bands break up, they reunited with the album titled, 'Hell Freezes Over', which was in reference to the statement made by Don Henley that the band would only reunite when hell freezes over. The album debuted at # 1 with the singles 'Get Over It' and 'Love Will Keep Us Alive'.

Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998, the long awaited new Eagles album is expected to be released this year.

Fans have eagerly awaited another Eagles tour and this fall the Eagles will be performing for six nights at the newest concert venue in Los Angeles , the Nokia Theatre l.a. live.

Legendary in their own right, Dixie Chicks are the highest selling female band in any musical genre, having sold over 30 million albums. Formed in 1989 in Dallas , Texas the band endured years of struggle. The band was formed by sisters Martie and Emily Erwin (since married and names have been changed to Martie Maguire ans Emily Robinson, respectivley) and had a largely influenced bluegrass sound. They found some success opening for larger name bands but achieved no radio air time. The lead singer, Laura Lynch, was replaced with now lead singer Natalie Maines in 1995 and the Dixie Chicks found their stride. With the release of Wide Open Spaces in 1998 the Dixie Chicks found their long awaited success with such singles as 'Cowboy Take Me Away' and 'Wide Open Spaces'. The three women trio instantly became known for their soaring ballads, varied instrumental talents, and unique fashion sense. With a mix of twangy country vocals, catchy pop beats created by a plethora of instruments such as the fiddle, banjo, mandolin, and dobro, the Chicks sold over 12 million copies of their debut album. Proving they were no one hit wonder, their second album, released in 1999, titled 'Fly', sold over 10 million copies. The Dixie Chicks have been accused of abandoning their country roots but the fans didn't seem to mind. The Chicks have been able to cross all genres of sounds and fans.

However, the Dixie Chicks are no stranger to controversy. Natalie Maines famed comment about President Bush in 2003 was heard all around the world. The comment enraged many country music fans who started a boycott of all things Dixie Chicks. Albums were burned, death threats were made, and air time was taken away. The Dixie Chicks never backed down from their comments and tried explaining their feelings to the public by stating that one could be patriotic without supporting a war. After several years of huge financial loss and abandonment of fans, the Dixie Chicks did what they do best - speak their mind through their music. Sometimes dubbed a 'comeback' album, the Dixie Chicks released 'Taking the Long Way' which went number one on both pop and country charts and became a gold record in less that a week. Their politically infused single 'Not Ready to Make Nice' voiced their feelings of their political controversy and became an instant hit. Even though ticket sales for The Dixie Chicks have become noticeably less in several southern states, their international fame and respect has grown.

In the second round of the draft, with picks 40 and 48, the Lakers selected two international players: Sun Yue and Marc Gasol. Hailing from Spain , Marc Gasol enters the NBA in the wake of his famed brother Pau Gasol, of the Memphis Grizzlies. The twenty two year old Marc Gasol is a 7’1” 280lb center who is said to have good footwork and a soft touch. Sun Yue has been called the “Chinese Magic Johnson” as a 6’9” point guard with a pass-first mentality that could develop into a valuable NBA commodity for the Lakers.

In a fantastic display of heart and determination Lamar Odom battled through multiple injuries as he finished out the 06-07 season. Having undergone off season surgery, both Odom and Kwame Brown are expected to return for the start of training camp fully recovered and ready to contribute. Lakers veteran Luke Walton will continue to act as a much needed facilitator and master of the triangle offense, resigning with the Lakers on a six year deal reportedly worth 30 million.

Lakers project, Andrew Bynum, having shown flashes of brilliance in his second year, will continue to train with Kareem Abdul Jabbar and attempt to establish himself as a dominant young big man in the Western Conference. The focal point of many trade discussions, Bynum is a sought after young center who has shown promise and skill while playing for the Lakers. Entering his third year, the Lakers hope Bynum can provide them with a significant low post presence to complement Bryant and Odom.

With no veteran point guard presence, the Lakers will be utilizing newly drafted Javaris Crittenton coupled with former UCLA guard, Jordan Farmar. Farmar, entering his sophomore year, has averaged about 4 points and 2 assists for the Lakers. Praised by Lakers Head Coach Phil Jackson, Farmar will attempt to fill the point guard position with his developed court vision and poised game play.

The Lakers off season woes have left many fans and players hoping for another big name arrival in Los Angeles . Despite the trade drama and the Lakers sub par season record; many feel that a healthy supporting cast comprised of Odom and Walton is enough to help the Lakers make some noise in the post season. Operating under Hall of Fame coach, Phil Jackson the Lakers will utilize the triangle in an attempt to get back on top as one of the most successful professional ball clubs in the NBA. The Lakers tumultuous off season could give way to a reenergized supporting cast, hopefully providing the NBA’s premier scorer with some much needed help.
