With 385,000 American workers in the call center industry, competition is intense for the most desirable positions. If you are fortunate enough to be called in for an interview for one of these posts, how can you prepare yourself so that you stand out from the crowd?

Hopefully you did some preliminary research of the company when you sent in your resume. Before your interview you will want to visit the corporate website and familiarize yourself with the company’s products and services. You should be able to converse knowledgeably about these. Know what expertise and interests you have that would be valuable to the company, along with your career aspirations. Set goals for the next one, three, and five years. Chances are good that you will be asked this question. You want to appear matter-of-fact and positive, but not arrogant.

Some job training centers and schools offer mock interviews. This is an invaluable opportunity to get feedback on your interviewing skills. Often the process is videotaped, giving you the chance to see yourself the same way an employer would. Consider each criticism given you with an open mind, and seek to improve your skills, rather than defend yourself to the trainer.

Keep a briefcase or binder ready for your interviews. Keep it stocked with the following supplies: clean manilla envelopes with extra up-to-date resumes, white envelopes with copies of your references, two working pens, two sharpened pencils, a notebook, a folder to hold information and pamphlets about the companies you are researching, a spare tie or pair of hose, your planner, a map of the area, a comb or brush, and your cell phone.

Being prepared will make you more comfortable and confident. Upon arrival to the interview introduce yourself to the receptionist. Be polite and positive to everyone you see. This not only puts you in the proper mind-set, but also will give everyone a favorable impression of you. You never know who may have influence.

During the interview it is important to be yourself. Speak honestly, stick to facts, and remember that it is 100% okay to ask for clarification and narrow down ambiguous questions. Stay positive, even if you are asked uncomfortable questions about your past employment. Don’t blame or make negative comments about past employers, rather admit that the situation was less than ideal and that you and your employer decided to part ways. Almost every employer asks for questions from you toward the end of the interview. Having a genuine question ready is an opportunity to show your knowledge and interest in the position. Before you leave remember to smile, shake hands, and thank the employer. After each interview it never hurts to send a brief thank-you card. Don’t gush, but let your interviewer know that you appreciate him/her spending time with you.

In your car after the interview is over give yourself a little self-assessment. What went perfect? What could have gone better? If you don’t get the job, this assessment may help you to improve and do better at your next interview.

In this competitive, fast-paced field, keep your interviewing skills and your resume current and sharp. This will ultimately help you land that job.

--
About the Author
Rob Daniels comments on Call Centers at Call Center Depot http://www.call-center-depot.com and develops content for Call Center Tools http://www.call-center-tools.com

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

Lacrosse is a fun and high energy game that is growing quickly in the United States. Interest is starting at a young age. girls and boys alike are lining up to play this sport. The athleticism, skills and finesse needed are pulling kids from all over to engage in Lacrosse. There is a misconception of danger related to this sport however, and that raises parents concerns regarding their child participating. There has been a lot of work to help Lacrosse be a safe sport and these concerns can be put to rest. Besides, the benefits far out weigh the potential risks.

Benefit #1: Increase Mental Health

Children participating in Lacrosse are benefited in their mind as well as their body. Depression is taking over many people's lives. Children are among the rising numbers effected by this disease. Although medication may be needed, activity considerably decreases the amount needed. Some studies have shown that sixty minutes of physical activity each day is as effective as a low dose of antidepressant. Although activity is not meant to replace medication it can help reduce symptoms. Exercise also releases endorphins and tension in your muscles along with improving attitude and clearing the mind. All of these things together mean a happier kid, and more able to handle the challenges of life now and develop a method of reducing stress that will benefit them their entire life. Your child doesn't suffer from depression? The same benefits apply. Youth experience stress and anxiety regardless of specific health conditions.

Benefit #2: Prevents Obesity

Child obesity on the rise with many youth just watching, cheering, and idolizing sports and athletes. The television is on and the chips are out. Not only are they increasing caloric intake, but the lack of activity lowers their overall metabolism and makes putting on the weight easier and continual throughout the day and night. Because there seems to be a trend of across the board of inactivity and weight gain among children and adolescence the U.S. government has even established programs to help kids move and make activity a daily part of their life. Physical education programs are cut back and even cut out in some schools. Children's physical activity is limited to that which they get on the playground and high school students are not opting to take as many P.E. classes as even 10 years ago. Lacrosse is a challenging and engaging sport that motivates children and teens to want to get the exercise they need.

Benefit #3: Build Endurance

Lacrosse combines the skills of basketball, soccer and hockey into a fast paced, high endurance test of strength and agility. With a playing area roughly the size of a football field there is a high demand for speed and strength. The training is rigorous and focused. Dedication is required to succeed. Struggling physically also helps build a person mentally. Pushing through and making a goal builds confidence and commitment. The hard work that goes into this sport helps develop a strong character, one that will benefit a person for years to come and help them endure other things in life unrelated to the game.

Benefit #4: Social Interaction

One of the great things about team sports is that you are part of a team. The players work, sweat, plan and play together. The time spent focused on a goal bonds the players together. Childhood and adolescense is a time for searching and learning to relate to peers and form friendships. Playing together allows for positive shared experiences with others and a setting to develop social skills. Children and teens who can be together and have a common purpose will have a greater chance at success in life, as much of what people do for work and community involves associating and working with others.

If your child is interested in playing lacrosse, these are only a few benefits they will experience. With the popularity of this sport growing more each year, and with leagues and teams set up all over the country, it is a past-time that can continue on throughout their life.

--
About the Author:
Rob Daniels is a professional writer representing http://www.lacrosse-shop.com and http://www.hockey-games.net some of his favorite sports.

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

Sailing Safety

Sailing, like most activities, does have some possible dangers. Knowledge, preparation and care, can help prevent most serious problems. Consider the following ideas when preparing for your sailing adventure.

Evaluate Skill Levels
Consider the experience level of those participating, age, strength and understanding of first aid. Going out on the community lake verses taking on the ocean are obviously opposite conditions. Getting in over your head can lead to inadequate skill and knowledge necessary for sailing conditions or unexpected events. Although most situations can easily be handled, such a scraps and abrasions, others take more judgement and knowledge. Having clear thinking, good judgement and experience cannot be overrated. Make sure those participating are able to handle the situations that may arise.

Life Preservers
Everyone on a sailing vessel should have a life preserver, and wear it, especially children. The unexpected can always happen and being prepared for it could save a life. Falling from a boat and hitting your head can be very serious, even a good swimmer can get knocked out and a jacket will keep them a float. To help make jackets comfortable, fit them for the individual. If it is the right size, comfortable and a style that is preferred, it will be easier to wear. Although some situations are rare, one cannot rule out the possibility that they could happen. It is better to be safe than sorry.

Sailing Shoes
Due to the nature of sailing, lots of water is involved! Sailing shoes will give feet grip on a wet deck and help with balance, control and walking around. A simple slip can cause a twisted ankle, bruises or pulled muscles that not only make sailing uncomfortable, but might cut a trip early.

First Aid Kit
Have a first aid kit on board and stocked, and check it before each trip. Small problems can lead to big ones if not taken care of properly and promptly. Clean cuts and wounds, use anti-biotic ointment and cover it well. Have pain medicine and other bandages as well as basic knowledge of first aid care. Instructions or directions would also be helpful on board, especially for possible dangers such as hypothermia. Sometimes in an emergency a person does not think clearly or quickly. Having information at hand will help handle the situation quickly and correctly.

Clothing and Sunscreen
Wind and sun can damage your skin and be uncomfortable. Wear clothes that protect you and help against these conditions. Those who frequently go out in the sun, over a long period of time, without sunscreen will be at a higher risk for skin cancer. Apply sunscreen thirty minutes before sun exposure and every hour or so while outside. A sunburn can occur even a cloudy day, so always protect your skin.

Although these suggestions are simple and basic, that is often why they are ignored. Following basic safety measures will help prevent serious problems and allow you to be prepared for the small ones that occur more frequently. By thinking ahead accidents can be avoided and small problems will be taken care of before they become big ones.

--
About the Author
Rob Daniels is an avid snorkeler and outdoor enthusiasts more at Snorkeling Shop http://www.snorkeling-shop.com and Kayak Escape http://www.kayak-escape.com

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

What is Snuba?

Snuba is a portmanteau word, combing the words scuba and snorkel. Snuba divers wear similar equipment to that of scuba divers: fins, mask, and a bodysuit. However, the air tank commonly worn on scuba divers back, is attached to a specially designed raft floating on the surface of the water. The air that the snuba divers breath travels through a twenty foot hose, only allowing the diver to travel to a maximum depth of twenty feet. The raft bearing the water tanks is designed to move in coordination with the snuba diver’s movements.

Essentially, snuba contains the benefits of both snorkeling and scuba diving; snuba offers the security of snorkeling as well as the freedom to venture under water to examine native fish or flora. Snuba is a “patented underwater diving system”, literally combining both snorkeling and scuba diving. Snuba allows users to not only view scenery from the surface, but to travel a total distance of twenty feet from a raft that supports your air tanks.

There is no snorkel or scuba experience needed for snuba, making it a safe and easy adventure. No extensive training is required as well as no certification or license. Unlike scuba diving, there is no need for heavy equipment in snuba, for the users’ air tanks are supported by a floating raft. In general, snuba is relaxing and even those who are not as strong swimmers can enjoy Snuba.

Snuba is a way to bring your children and family together; it is a family activity. Though Snuba uses compressed air, users do not have to worry about decompression issues because of the relative shallow depth. Snuba has minimal complication of equipment, and contstant connection to the surface over bodies of water.

Like a scuba diver you should not hold your breath while under the water and remember to descend and ascend slowly. Slow ascents and descents will allow your ears (and lungs) to pressurize in a similar way to being on an airplane.

While snuba users are restricted to a depth of twenty feet, in general, Snuba allows users freedom of movement and full control. Users breathe through a standard diving regulator, which is connected to a 20-foot air tube to an air tank that floats on the surface of the water in a floating raft. As you move about underwater, the raft is designed to follow you, allowing users to dive to a maximum depth of 20 feet. This raft ensures the necessity of heavy diving equipment needed for scuba diving.

Similarly to scuba diving, snuba gives you the feeling of being a part of the underwater world. The reefs you swim in have beautiful and abundant marine life, but you must remember to respect the ocean by not touching or breaking coral or taking anything out of the ocean.

Coral is very fragile and it is possible to break thousands of years of growth in a matter of seconds. Corals such as fire coral is dangerous. Fire coral can sting if touched, and many other types of coral have defense mechanisms, so it's always best not to touch any variety of coral. Because snuba allows you to go deeper than the average snorkeler you will encounter more ocean life, such as eels and poisonous fish. Be careful to just observe and not touch or provoke the ocean life you see. A no touch policy is the safest way to ensure a successful snuba experience.

Before you go snuba, be sure to take off all of your shiny jewelry, especially silver. Though quite rare, sometimes silver jewelry in the water resemble small fish, which could potentially attract a fish such as a barracuda. It might get the wrong idea about your jewelry and come closer than you or other swimmers might like.

--
About the Author
Rob Daniels is an avid snorkeler and outdoor enthusiasts more at Snorkeling Shop http://www.snorkeling-shop.com and Kayak Escape http://www.kayak-escape.com

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

Planning a vacation in the Caribbean or another beautiful, tropical location? Along with flight plans, hotels, and work arrangements it will be beneficial to plan for recreation, particularly snorkeling. Although you can arrive and receive some information and equipment that will allow you to experience the captivating undersea adventure, your experience will be much more positive and fulfilling if you prepare ahead of time. Problems vacationers have experienced range from leaking masks to unnecessary injuries. Many of the dangers of snorkeling manifest themselves because the participants have a lack or preparation or training and can be avoided.

Most areas have resources to learn snorkeling. Lessons will prepare you to be comfortable with using equipment and also allow you practice with techniques of keeping water out of your snorkel and how to dive underwater. Keeping water out of your snorkel is very important. Breathing in water can cause choking and other problems. Drowning is a danger when snorkeling. Taking time to learn snorkeling before you go on vacation will also allow you to test equipment. There are snorkels with "dry tops" on them which is a one way valve that will close off the top of the snorkel when you go underwater or have a wave splash over you. It is also important to be comfortable with equipment so when you enter the open waters if get separated from your group you do not panic.

When you find something you like it is nice to buy your own and bring it with you. One thing people don't like is the thought of a hundred people using the mask and snorkel before them. Another concern with a resorts equipment is that equipment fits different on everyone and the mask they provide may not be comfortable, fit your face well and therefore leak, or be the style you like for seeing the underwater life.

Follow directions on where to snorkel and stay in bounds. The equipment that you wear if very important, particularly your life preserver. Unlike a pool, an ocean has currants. Even if it looks calm, there can be dangers. If something should happen you will be able to stay afloat while you wait for rescue. Having a guide can be helpful especially if it is your first time. Never go alone. If you do not have a guide practice have along at least one other individual. The snorkeling area should be marked off with buoys. Some snorkeling areas may not be marked off. If this is the case you should use a dive flag and also extreme caution. If boats can come into the open water they propose a danger as they can hit divers and cause injuries.

While snorkeling in shallow waters the sun is constantly beating down on you and will cause sunburn. Apply your sunscreen often. Waterproof sunscreen can still come off in the water over time. Reapply every one to two hours for maximum protection. Severe burns can occur if this precaution is not taken. Along with the physical ramifications, the enjoyment of your vacation will be cut short.

There are animals that propose some threats, although not severe. Coral is beautiful and prevalent in the ocean, but also dangerous. Coral is sharp and can cause cuts and abrasions on the skin. These cuts are slow to heal. Also if coral is damaged it takes a long time to regrow and snorkelers should be cautious to avoid injuring this animal. Another animal that can cause injury are sea urchines. They have spikes that can break off and get trapped in your skin if you brush against them. These pieces, if trapped in your skin can be painful and can get infected. Be aware of your surroundings and where you are going. You want to avoid touching dangerous animals and colliding with other participants.

Snorkeling can be enjoyed by the entire family. Preparing before hand can make it a positive experience for everyone and very safe. Being aware of the potential dangers and learning how to prevent them is the key to a successful trip.

--
About the Author
Rob Daniels is an avid snorkeler and outdoor enthusiasts more at Snorkeling Shop http://www.snorkeling-shop.com and Kayak Escape http://www.kayak-escape.com

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

Everything about our lives is busy. We not only do our work at work now a days, but carry work with us. Cell phones, video conferencing and wireless Internet allow work to be done anywhere and anytime. Technologies advancements have helped business reach across the globe and do more work with greater speed than ever before. Yet, some businesses are seeing a decrease in workers productivity. A person can find themselves asking, "how can this be?"

Well, technology allows people to complete tasks with less physical exertion. Escalators, elevators, and cars make it easy to get where you are going without moving very much. We even have buttons to open car doors for us and save the time and effort to do it ourselves. Along with the weight control benefits of exercise lost due to all this technology, we also lose the benefits for reducing stress that come from exercise. And with stress is on the rise for many Americans these benefits are greatly needed. Stress reduces work productivity and causes businesses millions of dollars in lost work due to this reduced productivity and absenteeism associated with stress.

Lucky for the golf lover, golfing is not only recreational, but also a great healthy activity. A key to success in using golfing to reduce stress is to get all the exercise out of it that you can. If a person walks the golf course they walk 4-5 miles. Even though it is stop and go walking, it is still beneficial. An average American needs to take 10,000 steps a day to maintain weight, that is about 5 miles. Golf is the perfect solution for the goal to move more. Unfortunately, there is starting to be a trend to use a cart while golfing instead of walking. It has been said, "walking is the way that golf is meant to be played." Supporting this statement is that fact that participants in the PGA tournaments are required to walk the course. Part of playing the game is having the endurance not only to play, but also to travel in between holes. Playing traditional golf, including walking the course, also shows respect for the game.

Other benefits of walking, other than reducing stress, are time to unwind and slow down. Because most people are busy all the time, and always in a hurry to get to the next task. Walking the golf course allows a person to relax and take the time to fully enjoy what they are doing. When you have a cart, you quickly get in it to move quickly to the next hole. The person who does this robs them self of the time to look at the course and enjoy being outside. Slowing down gives you the time to think, contemplate and figure out life's problems. Stress is reduced not only for the body, through exercise, but also the mind through pondering. If you aren't able to walk the entire time due to lack of conditioning or poor health consider these suggestions:

1) walk 9 holes, use a cart for 9 holes

2) if golfing with a partner each walk half the time and use the cart half the time

3) take someone with you as a driver, to transport only between holes

4) start by walking everything you can other than the actual travel to each hole

5) Take the stairs more often, park further away from the fronts of businesses, and take a 10 minute walk on your lunch break to work up to more physical endurance.

6) Take time to slow down, enjoy the course and get all the benefits that golf has to offer.

--
About the Author
Rob Daniels is a professional golfer with a passion for a number of sports.
It may surprise you to know that college and university campuses are scenes to more than just socializing and learning. All too often, they can also be the scenes of a crime. Awareness of this problem has grown dramatically over the last twenty years, and many institutions are taking appropriate measures to protect their students from malice. Wise parents do not close their eyes to these issues, but discuss them openly with their students. When choosing schools for their sons or daughters, they consider the security programs and features utilized by the schools. You must do all you can to ensure that your student doesn’t get an education they didn’t plan for.

Drugs and Alcohol
Nine out of ten student felonies involve alcohol or drugs. Annually, 1,700 college students die from alcohol-related causes. On their own for the first time, students often feel a surge of independence that can lead to poor decision-making, such as binge drinking. There are many resources available to help parents discuss substance use with their young adult children. Meanwhile, when choosing a school favor institutions with strict policies regarding alcohol and drug abuse, and effective parent-notification. In this way, colleges and universities keep better control of this problem.

Sexual Offenses
Unfortunately, 25% of undergraduate women nationally will be victims of an attempted or completed sexual assault. Many schools have embraced innovative technological solutions in an effort to protect their students. Residence halls that use electronic key-card systems are superior to the ones still using old-fashioned metal locks, and most commons areas of dormitories are now outfitted with video surveillance. At the very least, residence halls should be monitored, and nighttime access should be limited to residents only. Room doors should be equipped with peep holes and dead bolts. Bathrooms are safer when restricted to floor residents. For peace of mind, you may see if single-sex and “substance-free” dormitories are available. Crime is lower in these halls.

Another important deterrent against sexual predators is awareness. Your student should study the campus and neighborhood with respect to routes between his or her residence and classes/activities schedule. Parking lots should be adequately secured, lit and patrolled. Many campuses offer emergency phones, escort services, and shuttle systems so that students should never have to compromise their safety by walking across campus alone after dark. These are free services that have dramatically decreased crime.

Theft
College students are often the target of fraudulent identity-theft and credit card schemes. Make sure your student is savvy about personal information. They should never leave bill payments, credit card offers, health insurance statements, or any personal mail lying around. Instruct them never to give personal information over the phone to any company unless they initiated the call, and they know the company is reputable. Caution students not to give out their social security numbers to obtain credit cards or memberships, and to keep a personal record of all such cards, with expiration dates and company phone numbers in a locked drawer or cabinet. PIN numbers should not be kept in wallets, and should never incorporate birthdates, social security numbers, telephone numbers or addresses.

The Jeanne Clery Act is a federal law that was signed into effect in 1990, requiring colleges and universities to disclose annual information about campus crime and security policies. It is your privilege and right to know these statistics. This law was passed at a great cost. In 1987 Jeanne Clery was raped and murdered in her dorm room by a student with whom she was unacquainted, who had passed through three propped open doors in order to rob dormitory rooms. Knowing they could never bring their daughter back, Mr. and Mrs. Clery demanded safer campuses for future students. More advice regarding security on campus can be found on their outreach site at www.campussafety.org.

--
About the Author:
Rob Daniels develops educational material for http://www.security-port.com and http://www.security-protection.net a top resource for locating security related RSS feeds.

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

There was a time when might made right, when the victor was determined on the battlefield, and the tools of destruction were the weapons of war. That time is past. Keeping our nation safe and secure today involves much more than wielding a sword against the enemy. The development of new technology and communications systems has transformed the job of keeping our nation safe. The weapons of war today include some of the same tools we see in our schools: computers, communication devices, and electronics. While we benefit from the advancements in the telecommunications industry, so do our adversaries. We can no longer protect the outer borders of our nation and feel safe. The enemies of the present and future are bright, educated individuals who require us to be prepared and keep a step ahead. There is a great and steady demand for professionals in security-related fields.

While law enforcement, criminal justice, and military intelligence spring to mind as fields traditionally associated with security, people with diverse and varied backgrounds are needed to keep our country safe. For instance, the National Security Agency alone hires more business management professionals than the top 10% of the Fortune 500 companies combined. While important, education, training, and background are not as critical in today’s security job market as the individual’s drive, innovation, and ability to solve challenges creatively.

The field of security is a haven for computer scientists and engineers. With training in development and support, a multitude of jobs are available. Computer Scientists and Engineers are often teamed with Mathematicians and Signals Analysts to analyze, understand, and exploit the advanced signals that threaten our security.

Individuals with a background in history, foreign language, or education are also needed in security-related fields. As Intelligence Analysts or translators, these individuals have an impact on the actions of our leaders in the government. Their research and written and oral assessments affect the course of action taken. Language Analysts are in such high demand that they often receive generous recruitment incentives, especially if speakers are multi-lingual, or proficient in Asian or Middle Eastern languages. Often candidates who are fluent in one language will be hired and trained in another language to suit the current needs of the country.

Researchers with a more creative bent are also in high demand in the security sector. To stay ahead of the nation’s adversaries, new products must be developed and tested. Within the security industry, inventors have opportunities to create much more than the next new gadget. These visionaries use cutting-edge technology to invent a safer tomorrow, leaving their marks as technical legends.

To get almost any job in security one must pass a full background investigation and pass a drug test. If security clearance is required for hiring, this may take six months to a year. The military employs the nation’s greatest population of individuals who possess security clearance. Often members of the armed forces find gainful employment in security-related fields when their terms are up. It’s important to plan ahead and plot out your career path. The field of security is not for the light-hearted. It is a serious subject, with serious implications. Although it requires individuals to work under intense, stressful conditions, the reward is a better future for everyone.

--
About the Author:
Francesca Black develops educational material for http://www.security-port.com and http://www.security-protection.net a top resource for locating security related RSS feeds.

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

Most of us have one or two fleeting incidents which we easily explain away, while an insistent few claim to have regular contact with members of the great beyond. Who are these beings who open the veil and remind us that we are not alone? Are they glorious messengers sent from God, or malevolent tormentors? Tradition gives them names, but what is the distinction between an angel, a spirit, and a ghost?

Stories of angels are as old as history. In virtually every world religion there is an angel figure—a benevolent celestial being who acts as an intermediary between heaven and earth. In scripture, angels visit man on earth to deliver messages. While many Christians believe that angels are the souls of good people who have passed on, official church doctrine generally describes angels as being created by God before the creation of humanity. Instead, saints are defined as virtuous people who have received their immortality. (One exception to this would be the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, who believe angels are humans who have been resurrected and have bodies of flesh and bone.) Angels are generally virtuous beings, although there are “fallen angels” who become known as demons. Although artists depict angels in glowing robes with halos and wings, the Bible says many entertain angels unawares. If you sense you have been visited by a heavenly being who has delivered an important message, chances are, you have been in touch with an angel.

The definition of spirits is more nebulous. Spirit is used to describe many things, including the part of a living being associated with the mind, will, and feelings. The word spirit is used interchangeably with angel and ghost, although spirits most definitely exist separate from the physical body.

While spirits and angels are almost always part of traditional Western dogma, ghosts are often left out of the religious equation. However, many spiritualists and individuals who have experienced near-death experiences describe ghosts as being individuals who have died, but who have not passed through the “tunnel of light.” They are found in areas they frequented during their lifetimes, and are attired in the styles of their day. Unlike angels, ghosts are in a condition of darkness and lack understanding. They may be confused, may not even know that they have died. Ghosts are almost always associated with haunting—although they may mean no harm. Most ghosts have an attachment to this world, be it unfinished business, emotional trauma, or fears that keep them from crossing over. A visit with a ghost does not have to be frightening. The kindest thing you can do for a ghost is to help him or her to put closure on his or her life and decide to find peace in the next life. A ghost who is particularly evil may have to be exorcised by an authority.

Angels, spirits, and ghosts each serve their own purposes, but one thing they all have in common is they remind us of our own mortality and keep our eyes heavenward.

--
About the Author:
Rob Daniels is a long term practitioner of Yoga and Pilates additional articles available at Religious Podcasts http://www.religious-podcasts.net and Angel Gifts http://www.angel-gifts.net

Source: http://www.articletrader.com
