<description><![CDATA[ Alaska is a winter wonderland in February and they have many events that will help you make the most of your Alaskan vacation or something fun to do on the weekend.  Wrangell Alaska hosts the annual Tent City Festival every February.  This event celebrates the gold and timber history of the city.  <br><br>The Willow State Winter Festival features a 200-300 mile dog sled Iditarod qualifier race, fireworks, outhouse race, chain saw competition, fishing and arts and crafts.  There are also radar runs with prizes for Stock, Improved, Modified, ATV and Motorcycle.<br><br>The Anchorage Fur Rendezvous is an annual event that is held every February in Anchorage.  There are many events during this ten day winter extravaganza including a Fur Rondy Photo Contest, Snow Sculptures, World Championship Sled Dog Races, Carnivals, Fireworks, Melodrama, Rondy on Ice, Costume Fun Run, Frostbite Footrace, World Championship Dog Weight Pull, Snowshoe Softball, Outhouse Races, Auctions, Skijor Relay, Reindeer Races, ASTAC Native Arts & Crafts Show, Family Night Skate, Rondy SnoCross, Molson Coors/Canadian Club Alaska Hold’Em Tournament of Champions, and the Jim Beam Jam.<br><br>The Yukon Quest is a dog sled race known for its difficulty and runs are extremely cold during the short days of February.  The run goes between Fairbanks and Whitehorse.  On even numbered years, the race begins in Fairbanks and on odd number years it begins in Whitehorse.<br><br>North American Championship Dog Sled races are held two February weekends.  These are sprint races that take place in Fairbanks.<br><br>The Junior Iditarod is for mushers under 18 years of age.  This race covers part of the Iditarod Trail going from Wasilla to Yentna and back.  This race is held prior to the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.<br><br>The Sitka Jazz Festival in Sitka, Alaska strives to bring professional jazz musicians from around the world to teach, inspire and perform in the small rural Alaskan community.  Evening concerts feature special guest artists, various local talent and students from the Sitka High School.  <br><br>The Heritage Museum in Anchorage houses thousands of artifacts.  Some artifacts are more than 2000 years old.  There are also several works of art by famous Alaskan artists such as Sydney Laurence, Fred Machetanz and Rusty Heurlin.  The museum features one of the largest privately owned public displays of Alaskan history and Native culture. <description><![CDATA[ Arizona is nice and wooded in the north and nothing but desert in the south, so if you are looking to escape to the warmth of the desert from a cold February, this is the place to do it.<br><br>The Grand Canyon is a must see if you are going to Arizona, you just shouldn’t miss it while you are here.  The Grand Canyon Railway offers a historic train tour through the historic Grand Canyon National Park.  Each train is historic as well.  They feature a fleet of antique engines, both steam and diesel.  They also have coach and first class seating.  They also have strolling musicians that will put you in the historic state of mind.  Your train car might even be subject to an old-fashioned shootout and robbery.  Not only do you see the spectacular Grand Canyon but beautiful scenery as well. They have special promotions running through the winter months.<br><br>If you want to see the Sonoran Desert, there is no better way than on horseback.  Cave Creek Outfitters provides horseback riding tours through rugged mountains and hidden canyons.  They offer rides to small groups of about five or seven and have a minimum of two riders.  They also offer a four-hour half-day ride or a full day ride that is six or more hours.  They are a drive from both Scottsdale and Phoenix.  They provide transportation from many of the Scottsdale resorts and you can arrange for transportation as well.  <br><br>Frank Lloyd Wright is one of the foremost architects that the country has ever seen.  You can experience his creations first hand at Taliesin West in Scottsdale.  The site was his personal home, studio and architectural school.  Taliesin West was built “out of the desert” by Wright and his apprentices.  They gathered rocks and sand to build the building.  The compound sits on 600 acres in the Sonoran desert at the foothills of the McDowell Mountains.  There are several tour options available that allow you to experience as much or as little as you want of Wright’s desert creation.  All tours guided and you will see the beauty of the work that was created in 1937.<br><br>Arizona has a number of things to do in February and because the winters are mild and beautiful in the southern half of the state, your options are endless. <description><![CDATA[ Arkansas is known for their rustic scenery and the in the winter months it becomes even more beautiful.  There are numerous outdoor and indoor activities to take advantage of in February whether you are on a family vacation or just looking for something interesting to do.  <br><br>Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs has some of the best Thoroughbred racing in this part of the country.  The track has offered live racing since 1904 and their season is in full swing come February.  They also offer simulcast racing with Thoroughbred and Greyhound races.  Many of the Thoroughbreds that make their way to Oaklawn are hopefuls trying to qualify for the Kentucky Derby.<br><br>After a day at the races you may need to head down to the Hot Springs Bath Houses to defrost and relax.  The Ouachita Mountain Valley has produced thermal springs for centuries.  The waters are thought to heal the body and many people will visit on a regular basis for water therapy.  The Fordyce Bathhouse Museum and National Park Visitor Center is a resurrected bathhouse that offers tours of what the bathhouse looked like in the early days as well as provides informational videos on taking the baths.  There are several bathhouses available so you can experience the thermal waters firsthand.<br><br>The National Park Aquarium in Hot Springs is another great site to visit in February.  This Arkansas’ largest fish and reptile exhibit.  They have on display a variety of Arkansas fish, saltwater species, and many reptiles.  There is even a 90-pound snapping turtle.<br><br>No trip to Hot Springs is complete without a trip to Josephine Tussaud Wax Museum. The attraction features seven different worlds with 30 settings.  The museum is open year round and great for getting out of the cold.  You will see everything from celebrities, to royalty, the pope and even Da Vinci’s “Last Supper.”  They also have added two exhibits featuring the New York City’s Firefighters during 911 and the late Princess Diana. <br><br>To remind us of the Valentine’s Day spirit, don’t forget about the Chocolate Lovers Festival in Eureka Springs.  The event is held at The Auditorium and features and art auction, chocolate and Champaign and delicious chocolate delights.  There will be chocolate tastings, dipping fountains, wine and “Best Of” chocolate events.  Contests include both Professional and Amateur Chocolate contests in sculptures, decorated cakes, chocolate cookies and best chocolate cake recipes. <description><![CDATA[ California is a large state with many large cities.  Each city has its own culture and there are a million things to do.  From coast to coast there are a variety of activities available to do and see in February.  <br><br>The AMGEN Tour of California is a bicycle race that takes place in eight stages and eight cities.  You can catch the Prologue in San Francisco, stage one is Sausalito to Santa Rosa, stage two is Santa Rosa to Sacramento, stage three is Stockton to San Jose, stage four is Seaside to San Luis Obispo, stage five is in Solvang, stage six is Santa Barbara to Santa Clarita and stage seven is in Long Beach.  Several teams from around the world meet in California in February for a race that is 650 miles long.  The race runs through the redwoods, through the wine country and to the Pacific Coast. <br><br>Yosemite Park is a national icon and at the Autry National Center-Museum of the American West you will have the opportunity to view art of the park.  There are a number of artists to be featured and Part II of the exhibition is to be exhibited through the month of February.  This exhibit allows visitors to view more than 140 artworks from the years 1970 to present and see Yosemite through the eyes of various artists.  The museum is located at the Museum of the American West Institute for the Study of the American West Griffith Park Campus in Los Angeles.<br><br>If you find yourself in San Francisco Bay in February, you may find time to take a Moonlight Sail with OCSC Sailing.  These are held once a month and are $40 for non-members.  The sail gives you the opportunity to sail on a yacht skippered by a professional.  You can enjoy in the beauty of the sail or even help out.  After the sail they hold a party with chili, chips, salsa, snacks and beverages.  These sails are popular winter events in the San Francisco Bay area and are sure to be a beautiful experience and a chance for some relaxation.<br><br>California is a large state and these events don’t even begin to cover everything that there is to do, however, they are very unique and can be a lot of fun as well as interesting. <description><![CDATA[ Connecticut is another winter destination for February that features many winter activities as well as several indoor educational and arts events that make your trip in February well rounded.<br><br>The Annual Associate Artist’s Show is held through February every year.  Associate Artists are invited to submit artwork and the annual exhibitions are to be hung in three front galleries.  The event contains a variety of art from including landscapes, still life, figurative, and other subjects.  The event is held at the Lyme Art Association in Old Lyme. <br><br>The Wonders of Winter is another event that is held in February at the Lyme Art Association.  This event is located in the Goodman Gallery.  The artwork celebrates winter life in New England.  Elected and Associate Artists are also welcome to exhibit their art but all work must be for sale.<br><br>In Hartford you will find the Annual Big Red for the Arts.  The food and wine event features samples from the Greater Hartford area’s best restaurants.  They feature wines from California’s Napa Valley, Tuscany and other worldly locations.  The event takes place at Joe Black’s Irish Pub.<br><br>In Greater New Haven you can find the annual Orchestra New England: Baroque Fest.  The event is an evening of Baroque music from such artists as Bach and Handel.<br><br>The Annual SweetArt Auction Art Night can be found in River Valley.  The event includes studio and regional artists that are on hand to create “quick” works of art on paper and hold demonstrations. There is also a silent auction in addition to the live auction.<br><br>The Annual Eastern States Ski Jumping Championship is an Olympic level competition held in Litchfield Hills.  The competitors jump off a 55-meter jump at the Satre Ski Hill.  This is the oldest ski jumping program in the nation.  The jump was built in 1926.<br><br>The Mark Twain House is located in Hartford and is a great place to get out of the cold.  The house is Tiffany decorated and the place where he worked from 1874 to 1891.  Here he created The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court.  The Mark Twain Museum is the “new wing” to the house. <description><![CDATA[ Delaware is a winter wonderland in February but hosts numerous events throughout the month that make a great weekend getaway or fun additions to a family vacation.  <br><br>Start with the Winter Ice Harvest at the Hanford Mills Museum.  The museum fills the icehouse annually, assuming that the ice is thick enough.  They fill the Ice House by hand and visitors are allowed to help do some cutting when the ice is thick enough.  They also sell great soups to warm you up at lunch, show historic videos of ice harvesting and have horse drawn wagon rides.  <br><br>The Biggs Museum of America Art in Dover features a variety of monthly events that rotate through the museum.  The museum is located in historic Dover and the museum features the Biggs collection.  There are fourteen galleries that are arranged in chronological order and the Reception Hall is used for temporary exhibitions.  The museum was founded by Sewell Biggs.<br><br>In Port Penn you find the Port Penn Interpretive Center.  This was an 1886 schoolhouse that is now a folk life museum in a 250 year old village next the marsh and Delaware River.  There are exhibits on town life, fishing, fur trapping, hunting decoys, community baseball and local artwork.  <br><br>Dr. John Finney built the Amstel House in the 1730s in New Castle.  The house reflects the town’s unique style and many prominent historical individuals have resided in the house.  These individuals included the Delaware Signers of the Declaration of Independence, a governor and George Washington attended a wedding in the parlor of the house.  Tours are available of the house and are approximately 40 minutes in length.<br><br>The Delaware Museum of Natural History is located in Wilmington and features life-sized dinosaurs, a Great Barrier Reef, Butterfly Garden and African Watering Hole.  The museum is open daily and excellent for children.  <br><br>The Loblolly Acres is a Christmas tree farm that has a lot of activities available at various times of the year.  The farm is located in Woodside and allows the public to experience a real farm.  They have a gift shop, petting zoo, corn maze, pumpkin patch, pony rides, nature trails, horse drawn carriages and hayrides.  <br><br>Whistlepig Day is an annual event in Killens Pond State Park.  Visitors can enjoy hikes, hayrides and hot cocoa. <description><![CDATA[ Tennessee is a beautiful state with a lot of culture.  They are known for their music production and great shows.  The state features beautiful landscape in the Smoky Mountains and kid friendly vacation spots.<br><br>You are going to find a lot of February events in Nashville including the Annual Bluegrass Music Awards and Convention.  The event is held at the Sheraton Music City Hotel and features bands, workshops, promoters and talent buyers, agencies, record companies and trade show exhibits.  <br><br>In Lynchburg you will find a museum dedicated to the Tennessee Walking Horse.  The horse is famous for its mild manners and exquisitely smooth gait.  This is the only organization dedicated to preserving the history of this great breed. The exhibits feature the formation of the breed registry, the foundation bloodlines, Celebration Show history, World Grand Champions, versatility of the horse and the care and training of the horse.  The museum also feature rotating exhibitions on the current World Champion, a featured breeder and trainer.  <br><br>The Grand Ole Opry is an American tradition and the number one attraction in Nashville.  The Opry is the place to see today and yesterday’s country music stars, superstars and the legends.  There are unforgettable moments happening on stage at every performance each week.  The Grand Ole Opry is located in Nashville.<br><br>The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum is a must see if you are a country music lover.  Audio tours by Vince Gill, Dolly Parton and other stars are available for self-tours.  Exhibitions include the Historic RCA Studio B, Elvis Presley, Dolly Parton, Charley Pride and many recorded songs.  The building itself is quite unique as the windows are designed to look like the keys of a piano.<br><br>The Tennessee Aquarium is located in Chattanooga.  The aquarium features a cove forest with otters and swamp with lurking alligators.  In the undersea cavern you will be surround by reef fish and sharks.  Next door you can see the six-story IMAX 3D Theater for their special showings.  You can save a little money by purchasing a dual ticket.<br><br>Sun Studio is open in Memphis for guided tours.  This studio is considered the “Birthplace of Rock ‘n’ Roll.”  This is where Blues and Country Music turned into Rock and where Elvis recorded his music.<br><br>The Hermitage is the Home of President Andrew Jackson.  Located in Nashville, the President’s mansion is available with guides in full costume.  The home was opened as a museum in 1889 and over 15 million visitors have passed through the rooms of this beautiful house and plantation.
