A tension ring is a category of finger ring in which the ring itself works as the clamping for an inset gemstone. This is diverse from other modes of ring designs, where a jewel is detained atop the ring stem by spikes, a bezel or other artistic variations for mounting. A tension ring shows up as a single ring with remarkable fastening force, which is fasten on the jewel to clutch it steadily in place. Some rings, while promoted as a tension ring and even has the appearance of tension rings, in actual fact will have a bridge holding the ring collectively from beneath the jewel. These are not genuine examples of a tension type of setting in the ring.

It should also be renowned that the terminology "tension setting" is actually from the perception of raw physical science. The stone is not held in terms of pulling force commonly termed as tension but in fact in terms of a pressing force generally termed as “compression”.

A tension mode of setting in a ring is a very strong construct, this with all due respect for having undergone special alloying, hardening and other action processes to augment its strong point. When the ring is being prepared, the metal normally gold or platinum when working with diamond is cold-worked and heat treatment process of hardening is done before the actual setting of the gem, and then later heat-treated for further hardness once the gem is set in its tension setting.

The primitive Niessing tension setting ring was erected out of 18 karat gold (which handles a composition of pure gold 75% and other alloying metals content of 25%) and it totally weighed 35 grams. The composition of metals that was included in the 18 karat blend was non conventional jewelry metals, utilized to offer the ring much amplified strength than regular.

The tension setting ring usually provides you the glossiest appearance because the hindrance of the alloying metal used to hold the gemstone is very little, and literally nothing is seen.
When you purchase something as significant and eternal as a diamond, for any occasion, it makes common sense that you would like to know the times past of that valuable memento. In the late 1990’s, the humankind became aware of the subsistence of “conflict diamonds,” jewels that have been used to fund rebellious or invading army’s war efforts.

At present, over 99% of the world’s diamond supply has been verified to be completely inconsistency free, and honest retailers and suppliers of diamonds the world over have clinched a policy never to support the countries involved in the diamond trade that still engage in these practices. Still, retailers such as James Allen see the value in educating their customers and staff on the issue of conflict diamonds, to better understand the significance and the process of diamonds that are acquired through fair trade.

In 2000, a joint proposal supported by the United Nations General Assembly created the Kimberly Process, an international certification procedure that aims to put an end to unlawfully traded diamonds. At present, 69 countries are legally vaulted by the rules of this stringent and comprehensive process.

Any traffic of diamonds between these 69 countries must stick on to these guidelines:

•Each participating country must have laws in place that consent the Kimberly Process
•Any consignment of diamonds must be inspected to ensure that each consignment hold fast to the guidelines
•They must then be shipped in tinker-proof containers
•They must be accompanied by an inimitably numbered, Government validated Kimberly Process official document
•Consignments must only be made to participating countries in the Kimberly Process

Each diamond, when sold by a trader must be accompanied by the following warranty statement:

“The diamonds herein billed have been purchased from genuine sources not involved in funding divergence and in compliance with United Nations declarations. The undersigned hereby guarantees that these diamonds are divergence free, based on personal knowledge and printed guarantees provided by the purveyor of these diamonds.” In a very short time, the Kimberly Process has had an insightful effect. In the 6 years since its commencement, the Kimberly Process has reduced the trade of conflict diamonds, from 4% to less than 1% of the entire diamond diligence.

Retailers like James Allen have always maintained a strict policy about the origin of their diamonds. The diamonds in James Allen stores come from large, trustworthy diamond suppliers who ensure that the diamonds originated from Kimberly Process compliant countries such as Belgium and Canada. As a chief centre for the trade of diamonds, Belgium has always had a system for diamond authentication, even previous to the formation of the Kimberly Process. Today, Belgian diamond wholesalers utilize one of the strictest levels of precautions when it comes to the trade of diamonds, according to the U.N.

--
Sarah Baltic offers you helpful tips on Engagement rings , loose diamonds and specializes in giving latest diamond education.
The Oscars, Emmys, and People's Choice Awards are some of the annual events highlighting the achievements of popular screen, television, and stage stars. Millions of viewers tune in to see who won the latest "Best Picture" or "Best Supporting Actress" award, but there is another reason why audiences are enthralled by such programs - the ostentatious display of glamour is excellent water cooler fodder for the workplace!

Fashion trends are apt to change at the drop of a hat, but some things seem to never change including the selection of jewelry worn, particularly timeless diamond studs earrings. Yes, fresh out of rehab Lindsay Lohan may look stunning in that stunning Dolce & Gabanna silk empire-waist dress, but more often than not she’ll choose something like a pair of 14K White Gold Princess Diamond Stud earrings to complement her taste in fashion. Although we can’t say nice things about her out of control living, Lohan remains a fashion statement when substance abuse doesn’t hold sway.

The advantage of wearing diamond studs is simple: no matter if you are wearing Signature GUESS blue jeans or a Serafina wedding dress, studs always look great on you. What’s more, if build your own appeals to you, then you can choose the style and stone that reflects your personality. When selecting build your own earrings, you can mix/match platinum, 14K yellow gold, or a 14K white gold band with your choice of stone. Simply choose either a three-prong or four-prong setting and build your own diamond stud earrings give you the customization you desire.

Of course, karat size matters to most buyers so wearing 3.50 karat diamond jewelry studs when you are gardening may be a bit much. That shouldn't stop you from wearing earrings, but you may find that .25 karat earrings to be more appropriate. Just don’t let the fashion police dictate your tastes; Hollywood certainly doesn’t!

Guys need not feel left out when it comes to wearing diamond studs. Forest Whitaker has been spotted wearing shirt studs and cuff links while both Jamie Foxx and Tom Cruise have been seen sporting a diamond stud earring while strolling around Los Angeles or New York. No, you won’t see much Boy George excess when it comes to guys wearing jewelry, but some men seem to like diamonds almost as much as their lady friends do.

Of course, if water cooler fodder is what you crave then showing up at the workplace wearing a pair of 14K white gold three-prong diamond stud earrings, one karat or more in size will certainly be a conversation starter. Just don’t make the mistake of wearing them when your annual review comes up as flaunting personal wealth can adversely impact the raise coming your way!

--
Sarah Baltic offers you helpful tips on Diamond studs, loose diamonds and specializes in giving latest diamond education.
Pearl jewelry has shot to the top of the news recently, as Calvin Klein and his ex-wife decided to sell three pieces of famous natural-pearl and diamond jewelry. These lovely pieces, one which is a 14-inch necklace with 28 natural pearls, once was owned by the Dutchess of Windsor.

The pieces will be sold by auction at Sotheby’s in New York in December 2007. Estimates of the collection’s worth goes as high as $3.1 million. Klein originally paid $733,000 for the pieces at a Sotheby sale in 1987.

The pearls in this Windsor collection are from 16.8 to 9.2 mm in size and are completed by an oval clasp set with two emerald cut diamonds with a weight of 2 carats. There also are fancy shaped diamonds weighing 1 carat, which is bordered by 20 small round diamonds weighing .70 carat.

Other Klein pearl jewelry offerings at the upcoming auction will include a pearl and diamond pendant by Cartier and a pair of pearl earrings by Van Cleef & Arpels.

As can be seen with the estimated value of the Windsor pearls, natural pearls have appreciated significantly in value in the last 20 years. In April, the two-strand Indian ``Baroda'' pearl necklace brought $7.1 million at Christie's International New York. This set a world record for natural pearl jewelry.

The premium prices and great fame of these particular pearl jewelry pieces highlight the high place pearl jewelry has in our consciousness. There are many outstanding places to purchase pearl jewelry. Some of the most famous types of pearls include Tahitian pearls and freshwater pearls.

Tahitian cultured pearls are a dramatic black color that comes from the black lips of the oyster. They are normally referred to as black pearls. However, the color of Tahitian pearls can range from graphite to beautiful metallic silver.
The beauty and high value of natural pearls makes it assured that a famous collection of these prized jewels will make headlines again soon!

--
Sarah Baltic offers you helpful tips on Loose diamonds, Diamond earrings and specializes in giving latest diamond education.
Precious Pearls and the Glam Lifestyle

Dating back to 1960 and beginning with a star made for the actress Joanne Woodward, the Hollywood Walk of Fame has added more than two thousand stars to the pavement along Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street. Real and imaginary figures are included, putting emphasis on what many consider to be the hallmark of the glam life – a career spent on the big screen. Glamour isn’t reserved just for the rich and famous however, as today’s shoppers have access to the same jewels favored by such starlets as Cate Blanchett and Kate Winslet, among others. Pearl jewelry is one of the most obvious glamour statements any lady can make; please read on and we’ll take a look at four types of pearls available for the glam-seeker in you!

Not all oysters are the same therefore you will find that there is a difference in the types of pearls that are available. Generally speaking, natural pearls are found by chance while cultured pearls are procured through pearl farms located around the world. While the former is highly prized, natural pearls are also highly priced to reflect their rarity. With pearl farms, prices are much more reasonable as the supply of cultured pearls is more in line with demand.

Four Types of Cultured Pearls:

Akoya, South Sea, Tahitian, and Freshwater are the four types of cultured pearls available through most jewelers.

Akoya - China and Japan are two of the largest producers of the Akoya, a pearl which comes from a species of small oysters and are generally 6-7 cm in size. A white appearance with a rose hue is what distinguishes the Akoya; pearls larger than 10 cm are extremely rare and highly prized. If you are a follower of Hollywood celebrities, then you’ve seen various actresses such as Blythe Danner wearing Y Akoya pearl necklaces prominently adorned on their plunging necklines.

South Sea - From the Philippines to Indonesia and all way down to Australia, this is the area of the world where South Sea pearls are harvested. With a golden, silver, or pale look, South Sea pearls are slightly more costly than Akoya and larger too. In the Philippines as in Indonesia, South Sea pearls are hatchery bred while in Australia these pearls are usually found in the wild, averaging 13mm in size. Daryl Hannah and Jacqueline Bissett are just two of the many actresses who favor South Sea Drop Pearl Earrings when appearing in public.

Tahitian - The lagoons of French Polynesia are the popular breeding place for the oysters which produce Tahitian pearls. Averaging nearly 10mm in size, Tahitian pearls come in a variety of pretty colors including pistachio, peacock, and aubergine. Who can forget when that handsome star, George Clooney, donated several gifts including a Tahitian-pearl necklace to the United Way’s auction benefiting Hurricane Katrina victims?

Freshwater - Unlike the three previously mentioned oyster-producing pearls, another mollusk – the mussel – is the maker of the freshwater pearl. China is the largest producer of freshwater pearls and the widespread availability of these pearls makes them the most affordable pearl of all. Colors vary widely, depending on the natural characteristics of the mussel and whether they were treated or irradiated to achieve the desired color. Marcia Cross, of Desperate Housewives fame, has been spotted wearing a gold charm necklace around Los Angeles that has tiny freshwater pearl accents at the clasp.

No, you don’t have to be rich or famous to look the part of a Hollywood starlet as you have a wide selection of pearl jewelry options to consider for your private collection. Demi Moore may look fabulous with her South Sea pearl drop earrings, but so can you!

--
Sarah Baltic offers you helpful tips on Engagement ring, diamond studs and specializes in giving latest diamond education.
Many of the celebrities walking down the red carpet at this year’s Oscar and Emmy Awards can easily afford to buy their own sets of designer jewelry. But they need not do that. Many of the industry’s best jewelry designers, including Erica Courtney, Neil Lane and Harry Winston frequently loan their jewels to garner publicity for their firms. These top jewelry designers give the celebrities their choice of what they would like to wear from their large inventory. It is especially important that two celebrities do not wear the same piece, so the designer must use caution.

One famous jewelry designer who loans pieces for these shows is Michael Katz, who lives in Beverly Hills. He is known for the ability to instinctively match people with the perfect jewels. At the 2005 Emmy Awards, host Ellen Degeneres wore magnolia pins by designer Michelle Roy in remembrance of Hurricane Katrina victims and survivors. The magnolia is the state flower of both Mississippi in addition to Louisiana. Also at that event, “Desperate Housewives” star Eva Longoria wore a lovely band of yellow gold bangle bracelets, and Mariska Hargitay wore gold jewelry by Faraone Mennella.

Tyra Banks outdid them all at the 2006 Emmys, where she wore $3.5 million in borrowed Chopard jewelry. There are many other lesser-known lines of designer jewelry that may be seen at award shows. For example, Danhov designer jewelry, first created by designer Jack Hovsepian since 1984, is an ideal melding of storied tradition and cutting-edge technology.

Another leading designer in the field of designer jewelry is the master Leon Popov. His justly famous Butterfly line features lovely butterfly designs appearing regularly as pins, pendants, necklaces and rings. So, each time you watch the Oscars or Emmys, take a close look at the jewelry being shown off by the celebrities. There is a good chance it is a piece on loan from a famous jewelry designer.

--
Sarah Baltic offers you helpful tips on Engagement rings, diamond rings and specializes in giving latest diamond education.
Sophisticated consumers are purchasing high quality jewelry like no generation has done before it. A strong middle class combined with a vibrant economy has pushed up demand as shoppers seek the right piece to add to their private collections. Trendsetting design is very important for contemporary fashion conscious consumers and leading jewelry designers have responded in kind to meet that demand. Let’s take a look at some of the hot trends in designer jewelry and whose collections are receiving plenty of attention.

The annual Emmy awards are now being upstaged by what the actors and actresses are wearing, not what they are winning. Sure, winning an Emmy is fabulous, but a big part of the show focuses on clothing and jewelry, as celebrities compete in what many are calling a blingfest. Yes, “rocks” like J. Lo’s six-carat pink diamond – reportedly worth about $1.2 million – are all the rage and every celebrity event seems to focus more and more on the bling and less on the awards.

Most shoppers aren’t likely to pay anywhere near what Ben Affleck paid for J. Lo’s ring, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t interested in buying jewelry that is of a high quality and unique. Capitalizing on this trend, the Sarah Blaine Fusion collection offers style and substance, but without the steep price. For example, what sets the Sarah Blaine collection apart from the rest is Ms. Blaine’s unique way of combining a variety of colored gemstones and layering them on a silver ring. Or, taking semi-precious faceted beads and combining them with pearls to make a beautiful bracelet or an elegant necklace. Modern style for modern women; that is the characteristic of the Sara Blaine collection.

Geena Davis may no longer be playing the president of the United States, but at 6’1” she is an imposing figure who commands a lot of attention at every event she attends. At a recent gala, Davis was the talk of the town when she arrived sporting a lariat style diamond necklace set in a rose gold hue. The necklace and matching earrings, which were presumably borrowed, were valued at a cool $16 million. Take that, J. Lo!

Though well beyond the reach of most people, the lariat necklace worn by Davis underscores one thing: women really like to have something beautiful hanging from their necks. To that end, designer Leon Popov offers an exquisite selection of butterfly rings, pins, necklaces and pendants that any fashion conscious woman would adore. The Popov collection is renowned for its surprising beauty, in a style some actresses would certainly embrace, but without the steep price most consumers wouldn’t be able to afford.

Your personal tastes in designer jewelry may not rival that of Charlize Theron, Julia Roberts, or Angelina Jolie, but that doesn’t mean that high quality designer jewelry has to carry a heavy price tag either. You can make a statement without busting your budget and find that special diamond ring, Leon Popov butterfly pendant, pearl necklace, or 18-karat gold bracelet that fits your personality at a price you can afford. Yes, you can own some of the bling without the matching steep prices.

--
Sarah Baltic offers you helpful tips on Diamond rings, loose diamonds and specializes in giving latest diamond education.
Jewelry retailers have seen a steady rise in the popularity of designer jewelry, partly due to the unique, one-of-a-kind feel the designs offer. James Allen, professional online jeweler, has seen recent success in two designer collections offered on its website under the Designer Jewelry category. Danhov and M. Geller are both designers featured on the website that can offer customers a special ring for that special day. While they share this quality, the two are actually very different in their designs.

Danhov was founded by designer Jack Hovsepian and has over 22 years of expertise in creating fine jewelry. The Danhov line includes different collections for a variety of tastes, but all their collections have a sophistication that's hard to match. Jamesallen.com features two of the collections, the Meno and Tubetto collections. Some of the designs are exclusive to the website. Danhov is well known in the diamond community for its delicate and dazzling pave and micropave settings. The elegant and luxurious engagement ring designs have matching wedding bands for a completely elegant bridal set. Danhov prides itself in creating works of art with the latest technology and inspired by the customer.

For a modern and fun flair, customers look to M. Geller. Designer Marc Geller founded this company in 1984, which gives M. Geller just as many years of experience. His contemporary pieces are whimsical in nature but still look classy. One of the biggest perks about the collection is the reasonably low price tag attached to it. According to the company website, the M. Geller Collection showcases pieces that compliment the customers' active lifestyle. Its playful collection of engagement rings has interchangeable wedding bands.
There was a time when buying a diamond for a woman was almost as standard as buying a loaf of bread. When the need arose, a man would go to his local jewelry store and pick out a modest solitaire setting as a token of his love. It probably looked similar to what all her friends had and she was just happy to know that she was becoming someone’s wife.

A lot has changed since our mothers and our mothers’ mothers said their vows. Today it is the norm for women to have an influence in buying their diamond. Some women even pick out and help pay for their ring.

With this comes choice, and in 2007 there are more choices than ever when it comes to selecting a diamond. The result is bigger stones, nontraditional settings, and designer collections.
