Visit any bookstore and it's easy to find a dozen or more guidebooks for any one of the world's major cities. Dopplr's Social Atlas is a guidebook unlike any other - the information within it has been compiled by the smart travellers who share their trips with others on Dopplr.

In addition to trips, they can share the discoveries they make along the way. They are able to add travel tips about places to eat, stay, and explore that might not have caught the attention of the publishers of printed guidebooks.

Dopplr travellers add hundreds of new places every week, and we aggregate and anonymise the information they send in. Looking at the data as a whole, we can start to see patterns emerging - and that's the true power of the Social Atlas.

It means we can pinpoint the cool cafes, hip shopping streets, gourmet restaurants and fashionable bars that people have discovered in the last few months. We can see where people are choosing to spend a night, be it in a tiny backstreet guest house or in the grandest of five-star hotels.

The explore category can mean taking in the traditional tourist attractions, but it might also mean walking the back streets of an up-and-coming city district, nosing around the shops and soaking up the atmosphere. It might mean browsing dusty bookshops or modern art galleries, or simply sipping a coffee and people-watching in a busy market square. Whatever travel tips Dopplr travellers have shared, it's all available to everyone in the Social Atlas.

And we can do all this much quicker than traditional print publishing allows. The Social Atlas is constantly changing as people's opinions change and new recommendations are added to our database. Whatever's happening in the world's big cities, our travellers are likely to spot it. The Social Atlas is always bang up-to-date.

The Social Atlas is built entirely using the recommendations from smart travellers, and this is what makes it unique. We know, for example, where Dopplr travellers are based and also what travel planning they've been doing. We can look at an overview of the data and spot interesting trends, such as where Londoners tend to go when they visit New York (and, in contrast, where New Yorkers go in their home town).

These trends and patterns are central to the value of the Social Atlas in the long term. It allows us to take snapshots of cities not just as places, but also as moments in time. The snapshot for London in January will differ from London six months later, as seasons and fashions change people's habits.

--
Dopplr is a service for smart travellers. Dopplr members share travel plans privately with people they trust, and exchange travel advice on places to stay, eat and explore in cities around the world. Dopplr aggregates this collective intelligence - travel advice from world's most frequent travellers - as the Social Atlas.

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

Headstart Fund Ltd, Headstart Advisers Ltd, an FSA-regulated hedge fund adviser and Mr Najy Nasser, its Chief Investment Officer, today announces they have settled their dispute with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission relating to Headstart's historic involvement in market-timing from which it disengaged in September 2003 prior to re-focusing on its other trading strategies. This will allow Headstart to concentrate on its core business as an investment adviser to offshore hedge funds and expand the business with the launch of new funds.

Without admitting or denying the allegations, the civil settlement includes payments of $17 million by the defunct Headstart Fund Ltd (domiciled in the Bahamas), $200,000 by Headstart Advisers Ltd and $600,000 by Mr Najy Nasser, the Chief Investment Officer. This settlement will conclude the case brought by the SEC against Headstart Fund Ltd, Headstart Advisers Ltd and Mr Najy Nasser arising from Headstart's historic market-timing strategy.

Headstart has since September 2003 focused its business on other successful strategies. The Headstart Fund of Funds has returned 65% (or 5.4% average annual net return) since its inception in 1999, whereas most European and US equity markets are down over the same period.

Najy Nasser, Chief Investment Officer of Headstart Advisers Ltd said:

"Headstart is very pleased to have reached a settlement. We responded to US concerns about market timing and immediately ceased this element of Headstart's business in September 2003. We have since worked hard to build up Headstart's funds using different strategies. As we equalled or bettered our overall returns against our benchmark, we are especially pleased with what we have achieved.

"We have superb long-term performance against both the market and our peer group and have some interesting plans to grow Headstart's investment business"

For further information:
M:Communications
Adrian Flook +44 (0)20 7153 1588 / (0)7768 608396 / flook@mcomgroup.com
Caroline Villiers +44 (0)20 7153 1521 / (0)7808 585184 / villiers@mcomgroup.com

--
Headstart Advisers Ltd is a financial services company incorporated in 1990, authorised and regulated by the FSA as an investment adviser to the Headstart family of hedge funds. It advises three hedge funds and a fund of hedge funds with the common mandate of superior returns with lower volatility (risk).

Its two multi-strategy hedge funds, Headstart Global Fund and Headstart Global Aggressive Fund, have respectively made an average annualised return of 7.8% and 12% over the last 10 years.

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

Dopplr, the online service for smarter travel, today shared the results of its recent research into the travel patterns and preferences of the world's best-connected frequent travellers. Two insights stand out in the research:

- First, how early in the decision process digital influencers share their travel plans. When people share a trip through Dopplr, 2/3 have not yet booked a hotel and half have not made any travel arrangements at all (e.g. plane or train reservations).
- Second, the importance of recommendations in key travel decisions. Over 95% of digital influencers claimed to be strongly or slightly influenced by recommendations in their choice of hotels and restaurants.

Other key findings of the study include:

- Dopplr travellers prefer unique travel experiences with over 40% going for boutique hotels when they travel, and 25% choosing a trusted chain
- Dopplr travellers are highly educated, and compared to traditional frequent travellers they are younger, earn more, and travel more often

Dopplr may have the most international social graph of any social network. Over half the people on Dopplr share trips with a person from another country. Over 2/3 of the users are from outside of the United States with half of the users coming from Europe, and Asia Pacific growing quickly. London, New York, San Francisco, Paris and Berlin are the top destination cities. However, as the plot of all Dopplr destinations in 2008 at the very top of this post shows, the tail of destinations is long and covers the entire globe.

For a full summary of key findings please see:
http://blog.dopplr.com/2009/05/11/data-how-the-dopplr-community-travels/

The research - conducted in collaboration with m1ndset, an independent Swiss market research agency - is based on two traveller surveys conducted over the last year, m1ndset independent research into international frequent travellers at airports around the world, and analysis of aggregate travel patterns of the Dopplr community.

Dopplr presents this collective intelligence - the travel patterns, tips and advice of the world's most frequent travellers - as a social atlas; which can be accessed on a personal computer and a mobile phone.

--
Dopplr is a service for sharing personal and business travel plans privately with the people you trust.
FAC has implemented a unique, Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode cardholder "authentication-only" solution for PROSA that allows the processor to submit 3-D Secure requests to FAC's MPI in advance of the payment authorisation to provide more versatility for PROSA and their acquiring banks in Mexico and Latin America.
PROSA operates one of the most important payment processing switches in the world, processing more than 1.3 billion transactions annually and facilitating the majority of transactions made at point of sale terminals throughout Mexico and Latin America, including American Express, Visa and MasterCard, as well as the ATM's of HSBC, Santander, Scotiabank, Banorte, Banjercito, Banca Afirme, Interacciones, Ixe, Invex, Banregio, and other financial institutions in Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Latin America.
FAC's 3-D Secure solution for PROSA enables their acquiring banks to determine chargeback liability for their online merchants in advance of the actual payment transaction authorization, thereby providing advance information to assist with reducing fraud and mitigating risk.
Banks on the PROSA platform can now submit Verified by Visa and MasterCard® SecureCode consumer authentication only requests securely across the Internet to FAC servers; the authentication response is then returned to PROSA for credit card authorization, all within a few seconds.
The unique 3-D Secure implementation was designed for the burgeoning Mexican online business market, where there is sophisticated online credit card processing, but limited online transactional risk management, and is serving various industries across the Region from airlines and hotels to large retailers.
"PROSA Mexico was looking for a way to reduce increasing online credit card fraud in the Mexican market. This type of implementation was not available domestically so we worked with PROSA to develop a solution to pre-authenticate all of their online consumer transactions in advance of the online credit card payment," said CEO of FAC, Andrea Wilson.
"Our Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode only solution is expected to significantly reduce credit card fraud for online merchants in Mexico and Latin America based on the Card Association rules governing 3-D Secure online chargeback liability shift."
As a result of the implementation, Mexican acquiring banks and merchants can see an immediate reduction in online Visa and MasterCard credit card fraud; in some cases by up to 85%.
FAC offers customized consumer authentication-only risk solutions to acquiring banks and processors in the Latin American Caribbean Region, in addition to a full suite of other online risk solutions including North American Address Verification services, CVV2/CVC2/CID validation and Consumer Credit Card verification services.

--
FAC's online credit card processing and risk mitigation solutions are compliant and PCI certified, and also available to banks and processors in other regions including Europe, CEMEA and Asia.

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

3D Payer Authentication Solutions

What is 3-D Secure Payer Authentication?

3-D Secure has been named by VISA and MasterCard because there are 3 interoperability domains involved in the authentication process.
- Issuer Domain
- Interoperability Domain
- Acquirer Domain

Also involved in the authentication process are the cardholder, the merchant, the payment gateway and the bank's processor

Consumers:
Once enrolled in 3-D Secure consumers can be protected from fraudulent use of their card at an Internet merchant site, this builds consumer confidence in the payment mechanisms online prompting greater use and increased spending.

Merchants:
Merchants benefit from chargeback liability shift on disputed payment transactions if they are enrolled in 3-D Secure and made an attempt to authenticate the cardholder during the payment process. The issuer nor the cardholder need to be enrolled in order for protection to be guaranteed!
VISA supports chargeback liability shift on 3-D Secure attempts and completed authentication requests.
MasterCard in USA and Canada do not support 'attempts' and require full UCAF authentication in order to transfer chargeback liability shift from merchant to consumer.
MasterCard in EU, SAMEA, LACR and AP support CB liability shift on SecureCode 'attempts' on intra-regional transactions (cardholder and merchant in same region) if the SecureCode request is attempted (with or without completion) and a valid payment transaction authorisation is obtained.

Potential problems with 3-D Secure:
If issuers have implemented activation during shopping to facilitate enrollment for their cardholders, online activation will occur while shopping at a 3-D Secure enrolled merchant site. If the consumer selects to "activate now", the verification of the consumer's ID takes place first, however, failed attempts to either validate the consumer's ID or enrollment problems can cause the pop-up window to get "stuck" open and the consumer must exit manually or leave merchant site, resulting in lost sales.
Communication (Internet) can be disrupted causing time-outs and browser session hanging resulting in a failed enrollment and potentially a lost sale.
Many issuers have not adequately educated their cardholders about "activation during shopping" and thus the consumer thinks the merchant is requesting information through a pop-up box and exits the session.
Consumers could have pop-up killers set on their browser to prevent the pop-up window from opening to initiate the process.
The Internet connection between the consumer and the merchant could be disrupted (particularly dial up users) during the middle of the enrollment or authentication process causing the enrollment process to fail

What are the benefits in using 3-D Secure?

Merchant Benefits:
Simple set up - no software to purchase, no merchant "plug-in" to install
Immediate access to Verified By VISA and MasterCard SecureCode once enrolled
Protection from consumer fraud losses, unauthorized transactions and disputes
Chargeback liability shift for key CB reason codes - even on supported attempts
Increased consumer confidence leading to increased sales
Increased card acceptance over other payment methods - increased sales!
Lower transaction costs - allowing for more competitive product pricing
Greater income potential from reduced transaction costs and chargeback penalty fees
MasterCard SecureCode and Verified By VISA programme benefits, marketing and support

Acquirer Benefits:
Better and cheaper than chargeback insurance!
Immediate reduction in interchange costs for 3-D Secure authenticated ecommerce transactions - up to 40 basis points savings on 3-D Secure transactions - even attempted 3-D Secure transactions!
Immediate reduction in credit risk, disputed transactions, chargebacks, exception handling expenses, and portfolio losses;
Immediate reduction in back office costs and administration relating to retrieval requests, dispute handling, chargeback investigation and lengthy presentment cases
Fast and easy enrollment - no MPI software to purchase - installation and certification are completed on the bank's behalf;
Reduced capital expenditure in relation to other fraud management and detection services/software;
Guaranteed liability shift from Acquirer to Issuer for key chargeback reason codes.

Processor and Aggregator Benefits:
Long term retention of 3-D Secure compliant merchants with Acquiring bank(s);
Immediate reduction in disputed transactions, chargebacks, exception handling fees, and portfolio losses;
Immediate reduction in penalty fees and fines associated with high chargeback merchants (>1%);
More negotiable discount rates for 3-D Secure authenticated ecommerce transactions - immediate savings across the acquiring business portfolio;
Fast and easy enrolment - no MPI software to purchase - installation and certification are completed on your behalf by FAC!

Processor and Aggregator Benefits:
"Pay as you Go" enrolment model - register one, some or all of your entire portfolio!
Acquirers can decide which merchants to set up for 3-D Secure

--
First Atlantic Commerce installed the MPI so that 3-D Secure could be provided to merchants whether they use FAC's payment gateway services or not.

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

The result? 78% of all e-commerce chargebacks are from 'unauthorised transaction' reason codes commonly referred to as the "I didn't do it" chargebacks.
This changes with the introduction of 3-D Secure services which provides Internet merchants with the ability to verify the consumer's true identity through a secure, electronic, non 'face-to-face' authentication process.
To press the importance of eliminating card and chargeback fraud on Internet transactions the Card Associations have also instituted chargeback liability shift to protect merchants from online fraud and habitual chargeback offenders.

How does it work?

From an Issuers Point of View:
Issuers must license 3-D Secure "Access Control Server" software from a certified vendor. Issuers then register BINs directly with Verified By VISA and MasterCard SecureCode depending on what card brands they issue. Issuer BINS are installed on the ACS server and cardholders are requested to register their card number with VbV and SecureCode by selecting a unique password and 'secret phrase.

From an Acquirers Point of View:
Acquirers enroll with VISA and SecureCode to register their acquiring BINs/ICAs. Acquirers must identify how they will support the MPI to enable 3-D Secure. Merchants are enrolled by their acquiring bank and registered on the MPI (hosted by FAC) and Directory Server. The Card Associations set up specific parameters in BASE I and INET to ensure 3-D Secure transactions are flagged correctly for both interchange price reductions and chargeback handling. The MID, merchant name, BIN and security certificate are all that are enrolled on the Directory Server. No MCC!

From the Card Associations Point of View:
The Directory Server is the 'traffic cop' that manages and monitors BINS and 3-D Secure messages between Issuer, Acquirer and Merchant. The Directory server receives authentication requests from FAC once a merchant is integrated. The Directory Server determines if the card number is in an enrolled Issuer BIN range, directs requests for cardholder authentication to the appropriate Issuer (ACS) and then responds back to the merchant starting the process of payer authentication directly with the consumer.

From the Card Associations Point of View:
All "attempted" payer authentication requests, whether validated or not, are stored on the Authentication History Server (at VISA and MasterCard) providing data for acquirers and issuers in the event of a transaction dispute. VISA and MasterCard have implemented payer authentication scenarios based on the responses from the ACS server and the MPI software that determine liability shift protection for Issuer and Acquirers.

The Payer Authentication Process
- Issuers and Acquirers register independently and the service is not interdependent;
- Issuers can be enrolled but not their cardholders; alternatively neither can be enrolled - this drives the merchant chargeback liability shift conditions;
- Likewise, Acquirers can be enrolled but not their merchants leaving the liability for fraud with the merchant if payer authentication is not completed prior to the payment authorisation.
- FAC's MPI software communicates with the merchant's payment page and passes the authentication requests to the Directory Server(s) to validate Issuer enrollment;
- The Directory Server queries to determine if the Issuer BIN is enrolled and if yes, communicates with the Issuer ACS server to validate if cardholder is registered;
- If both enrolled, the Directory Server responds via FAC's MPI and sends the message to the merchant to generate the 'pop up' window for the consumer to enter their password information.
- Authentication of the consumer takes place directly between the consumer and the ACS server through a secure browser connection;
- The ACS provides the payer authentication response back to FAC's MPI.

Merchant proceeds with the payment authorisation depending on the authentication response codes provided by the MPI.

--
First Atlantic Commerce offer Offshore credit card merchant processing and international merchant account for online businesses across the world.
The 'Gold Coast' name comes from the times when people used to steal gold from Spanish Galleons wrecked along the coast, which apparently carried large amounts of gold and silver coins. This stunning shoreline of about 60 miles on the Atlantic features a string of sandy beaches running from Jupiter in Palm Beach County to Fort Lauderdale, and including also Miami and Miami Beach. Wealthy cities compromised the South Florida metropolitan area, such as: West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Pompano Beach, Hollywood and Fort Lauderdale, and are linked by the 'Intercoastal Waterway' or U.S 1.

Stunning beaches and fantastic sunsets are just part of the attraction, which also lies in the wide variety of high standard resorts, a lively culture scene, cuisine entertainment, and fascinating cities. Each beach is different from the other, but all are marked on cleanliness by the Clean Beach Council. The Gold Coast is also a great location to spot turtles and colourful birds, swim with dolphins and visit seaside secret bays. Partying in South Beach is one of world's best experiences, and do is clubbing in Palm Beach. For those into sports, playing golf in one of the high standard courses is a must, or taking tennis lessons in the world's famous tennis schools.

When it comes to attractions, there is an endless list of places to see: Art Deco District, walk along the restored and new building with electric facades. Bass Museum of Art, featuring works by Italian classics, such as Rubens, Ghirlandaio and Botticelli. Fairchild Tropical Garden, another massive botanical garden. Jupiter Lighthouse, the oldest structure in Palm Beach County. Lion Country Safari, drive through a cageless zoo, which lodges lions, elephants, rhinoceroses, giraffes, zebras, among others. Metrozoo, a giant zoo with loads of live shows and animal exhibits. Miami Seaquarium, South Florida's largest marine aquarium. Miccosukee Indian Village, one of the few places where is possible to see alligator wrestling. Monkey Jungle, a colony of monkeys living in their natural environment. Museum of Science and Space Transit Planetarium, featuring the astonishing coral reefs and Everglades exhibits, plus many other science related shows. Palm Beach Polo & Country Club, home of world-class polo, which also hosts the U.S. Open Polo Championships. Parrot Jungle and Gardens, the ultimate bird sanctuary and botanical garden. The American Orchid Society, featuring a wide variety of orchids. The Last Galleon, featuring artifacts recovered from the oldest Spanish Galleon found in Florida waters.
