It's the ideal solution to challenges such as limited space and poor soil. </p><br /><br /><br /><p>Container gardening also allows you to place your garden where you want and need it. Container gardening can also improve monitoring and control so that optimal growing conditions can be maintained.</p><br /><br /><br /><p>But what is container gardening? Container gardening is the raising of plants in soil filled containers outside of the traditional garden. It affords many people the chance to garden who would otherwise not have the space for an open garden on the ground. Container gardening is ideal for city dwellers who have only a balcony or rooftop to garden on. But even if space is not a problem, container gardening can just make gardening easier and more convenient. </p><br /><br /><br /><p>While any type of container will do, it's best to use something that's not too shallow and does not leak. Most Home and Garden stores and nurseries sell prefabricated containers for container gardening. Or you can simply build your own to fit the space. With a little imagination, almost anything can be used for your container gardening project. An old wheel barrow or large kettle for instance. Even an old computer case!  The container you select for container gardening doesn't just have to be functional. It can also be a design element.</p><br /><br /><br /><p>Good quality soil is critical to a plant's growth and continued health. And container gardening affords you the chance to totally control the medium your plants are growing in. Buying good quality planting and potting mix helps assure you of a successful container gardening project. Since container gardening is usually in containers under twenty gallons in size, it is a wise idea not to scrimp on the cost of soil. Once you have your container and soil, it is time to begin container gardening. </p><br /><br /><br /><p>Select your container. As stated earlier, the container should not be too shallow. It needs to be large enough for deep root development. Just make sure it is clean to begin with and then fill the bottom with two to three inches of gravel or drainage and then fill the rest of the container with soil. If you're using a large container for your container gardening, remember that it may be very heavy once it's filled with rocks and soil, so you may want to prepare it in the spot where it will be used so you don't have to move it. Once your container is filled and in place, you will want to give the soil a good watering to settle everything and to wet any peat moss that may be in the potting mix. Once this is done, you are ready to plant your plants according to the needs of the individual plants. </p><br /><br /><br /><p>Proper watering is also an important element of successful container gardening. Plants in containers will need more frequent watering than plants in an open garden. So particular attention needs to be paid to watering, especially on hot sunny days. A drip irrigation system for your container gardening project will take care of this need easily and will protect your plants from the trauma of fainting on a hot day from lack of water. </p><br /><br /><br /><p>Container gardening can be fun and easy with just a little planning and preparation. <description><![CDATA[ When I sit down and try to think of what gardening tips I can give, I think back to that pieces of advice I got that were and still are helpful and useful.  To me, that is what defines a gardening tip.  There are many sources of gardening tips from experienced gardeners that give you advice, to TV shows, books, magazines and the internet.  It seems that almost any gardening question can be answered with a gardening tip from somewhere.  And it often appears that there are multiple viewpoints on every gardening question so sometimes these gardening tips actually contradict one another.<br /><br />There is a lot of research and learning to be done in gardening and to a large part no one else can do it for you.  You can get ideas and advice, but ultimately you will have to test it out for yourself and see if it is helpful and useful.<br /><br />So my gardening tip for you would be: Ask questions, search for answers, but test it out for yourself. That being said, here are some of the things that I would say are good gardening tips.<br /><br />Raised Beds<br />Raised beds answer so many needs which is why I'm including it in my gardening tips.  Whatever form of raised bed you use, and there are many, you can count on the raised bed to make your garden easier to work and more productive.  The soil in a raised bed is better because it never gets stepped on, weeds are easier to remove from a raised bed, planting and tending and harvesting are all easier with raised beds.<br /><br />Soaker Hoses<br />My gardening tips continue with a look at soaker hoses.  Soaker hoses are so much more efficient for watering your garden than sprinklers or spraying with a hose.  So much less water is lost to evaporation that it really saves a lot of water and money.  Your plants are healthier with a constant low level source of water soaking to soil deeply at their base.  By encouraging deep root growth, you are making your plants healthier and so much more drought resistant. <br /><br />Have Fun<br />Probably the most important gardening tip I can give you is to have fun. When gardening becomes a chore and all the fun has gone out of it then you are losing one of the greatest benefits of gardening and that is stress reduction. <description><![CDATA[ One of the central components of any healthy diet is eating a sufficient quantity of greens. Yet 95% of people who follow a health diet, do not consume enough green leafy vegetables. <br /><br />I'll admit, I often have trouble (or sometimes even lack the desire) to eat my greens. There are days when I just don't eat enough of them. I know greens are good. I know I need to eat more greens but I just don't do it. <br /><br />And then I discovered a fun way to get more greens into my diet. Here are my Top-3 Ways to get more greens into your diet.<br /><br />1. Make Green Smoothies<br /><br />Green smoothies are great and my favorite way to consume a large quantity of greens! When I first heard about green smoothies I was a little skeptical about blending fruit and greens and was surprised by the result. <br /><br />Here are some recipes from my ebook Smoothies for Optimal Health. <br /><br />Berry Roman Smoothie<br /><br />1 cup strawberries<br />2 whole bananas<br />1/2 bunch romain<br />1/2 to 1 cup water<br /><br />Blend fruit and water. Add romaine lettuce. Enjoy.<br /><br />Being Green Smoothie<br /><br />2 cups fresh spinach<br />1 whole grated cucumber or carrot<br />2 whole bananas<br />1 whole orange<br />3 whole apples, juiced<br /><br />In a blender, whirl together all ingredients until thick and smooth.<br /><br />2. Make Blended Salads<br /><br />Once you've gotten used to the taste of greens in your smoothies, you can graduate to making blended salads. You can transition gradually by reducing the amount of fruit in your smoothie and increasing the quantity of greens. Gaspacho is a type of blended salad. Here is one of my favorite recipes (though I will admit it took me a while to get used to the taste and texture of blended salads).<br /><br />Blended Salad<br /><br />2 medium tomatoes, roughly chopped<br />2 ribs of celery<br />4 leaves lettuce (big)<br />1 big handful spinach<br />1 green onion<br />1/2 avocado<br />1/4 cup parsley<br />2 Tbs. dulse flakes<br />1 Tbs. nori flakes (optional)<br />Water if needed<br /><br />Blend the tomatoes together, and add the rest of the ingredients progressively. Use water only if you need to. A blended salad should be quite thick.<br /><br />3. Find One Good Healthy Salad Dressing<br /><br />A funny thing happened once I started consuming more greens in my diet. I started to dislike some of my favorite "healthy" dressings. My tastebuds lurched at the taste of olive oil. So I compiled a collection of healthy salad dressings in my ebook "The Top 70 Healthy Salad Dressings You Can Make in Less Than 2 Minutes" <br /><br />Here's a recipe to get you started. <br /><br />2 tomatoes or cucumbers<br />2 Tbs. apple cider vinegar or lemon juice<br />1 cup fresh dill<br />1 small avocado<br /><br />Blend tomatoes and add other ingredients progressively. Blend until smoothie. Add other seasonings if desired. Use more water if necessary.<br /><br />We know greens are good for us and we should all strive to get more greens in our diet but don't force yourself to eat more greens if you don't like them! You'll get sick easily. Instead, let your innate hunger for greens come back naturally, by slowly incorporating more greens in your diet in the form of green smoothies, blended salads, etc. You'll find that as your diet starts to become cleaner, you will naturally crave more greens and raw foods.<br /><br />--<br />Deborah Carraro is an avid nutrition, health & fitness enthusiast. The victims of identity theft are actually a surprisingly young group, demographically speaking. The highest rate of identity theft is occurring in individuals aged from their mid twenties to their mid thirties. And identity theft through computers and the internet accounts for a portion of these incidents annually. About one in every eight Americans experience Identity theft on computers and the internet each year. Identity theft on computers and the internet can occur through fraudulent requests for personal information and through online buying services that are not secure sites and by having your personal computer compromised by someone you know and trust. More recently, identity theft has been connected to the use of social networking sites like Facebook. Read on to learn how to protect yourself from this fast rising crime.<br /><br />There are safeguards you can implement to reduce the chance of identity theft through computers and the internet. A majority of identity theft that is going on is by means of offline activities, like stealing wallets, checkbooks, credit cards, mail and other personal items that contain critical identification information. Anti-phishing software may help, but is not a guarantee for protection, so make it your practice to keep your personal information secure to reduce your chances for identity theft on computers and the internet.<br /><br />Another technique that malicious hackers and criminals use for identity theft on computers and the internet is spyware that gets into your computer and grabs lots of stored information including financial accounts, passwords and other critical information that will allow this individual access to your money and identity. Though it has been practiced for centuries, it has only gained mainstream approval, meaning you can easily find yoga classes in your local fitness club or video store. If Yoga is an interest, then it's essential to find out which style of yoga is suited to you. There are many styles of Yoga that are practiced today. The different styles are all based on the same basic poses but they each differ slightly in their emphasis. There are many more styles than listed here, with many gyms offering their own style, which is often a combination of several other styles. Here is a list of the most popular Yoga styles and what they represent so you can decide on the best one for you.  <br /><br />Hatha<br />Hatha Yoga encompasses many physical types of yoga.  This traditional style yoga is typically slow-paced with gentle movements.  This is a good starting place as the exercises are likely to be easy and basic. <br /><br />Vinyasa<br />Vinyasa Yoga is another widely used term to describe a yoga style.  It generally provides a more vigorous style of yoga in which breathing is synchronized to movements.  One of the warm-up exercises is typically the Sun Salutation, which is followed by more intense positions and stretching.  <br /><br />Astanga and Power Yoga<br />The word Astanga means 'eight limbs' in Sanskrit.  This Yoga is a faster paced and more intense style.  In this yoga style a set group of poses is done in the same order, as a routine.  There is much movement or flow and it is more physically demanding than other methods of yoga.  Power Yoga stemmed from Astanga yoga and is a popular type of yoga at many gyms and studios.  Similar to Astanga in movement, Power Yoga may not follow a set routine. <br /><br />Iyengar<br />This style of Yoga is based on the teachings of yogi B.K.S. Iyengar.  The main emphasis on this style of yoga is body alignment.  This type of yoga stresses holding the poses for long periods of time. <description><![CDATA[ Many people make the mistake of skipping or scimping on breakfast in their daily diet.  This may be due to any <br />number of reasons...rushing off to work, jumping into household chores, getting caught up with child care or just <br />plain poor eating habits. Breakfast is an important element in one's daily diet, whatever type of diet you may prefer. <br /><br />I used to skip breakfast all the time. I would often fill up on water and head out the door for the daily 1.5 hour <br />commute to work. Of course, the first stop after getting off the train would be a coffee - simply to keep me going, not for the caffeine fix! When I worked in the Corporate World, I counted myself among the many who would skip their morning meal. Breakfast was a luxury time didn't permit. <br /><br />Some who are very weight loss conscious, or just wish to control weight through diet, erroneously think that skipping breakfast is a good way to eliminate calories. This is a mistake in terms of overall health, calorie control and good diet habits. Because the food we eat in our diet, the times when we eat and the particular type of food intake (protein, starch, sugar) all affect blood sugar levels and appetite. We need to control food intake in our diet in order to keep energy and blood sugar at appropriate levels. <br /><br />I started back at the gym two months ago after a five year hiatus. One of the first things I did, even before setting foot in the door of the gym, was incorporate a breakfast and a morning snack into my daily routine. It's made the world of difference. In fact, the days that I don't eat a full meal or skip my snack, I feel it in my energy levels when I hit the gym.  <br /><br />In essence when we awake in the morning our body has been through a period of "fasting", with no food intake for a <br />number of hours.  This results in relatively low blood sugar. If one skips breakfast in one's diet, the blood <br />sugar level continues to dip and a sudden craving can develop for food, especially for sugar in the diet, which <br />again causes a quick rise in blood sugar. When the diet includes sudden intake of sugar, the sugar level jumps, <br />which develops a roller coaster effect and leads to a poor diet which includes "quick fixes". Typically a quick <br />response to low blood sugar is a sweet, a soft drink or alcohol...none of which are a good diet supplement. <br /><br />A diet which maintains appropriate levels of blood sugar and energy will include a healthy breakfast. Blood sugar levels will be maintained with a diet that includes a balanced breakfast combining whole grain, some source of protein and fruit. Protein in particular in the diet, including breakfast, will maintain blood sugar levels, avoiding the dips which lead to snacking.  <br /><br />If you're pressed for time, consider a smoothie. You can chop your fruits and vegetables the night before and load <br />them into your blender glass. Refridgerate overnight (or not if you prefer room temperature smoothies) and whirl away in the blender in the morning along with your favorite liquid. Five minutes is all you'll need to whip up a nutritious and substantial breakfast. You can even pour it into a travel mug or neoprene jug and tote it with you on your commute. <br /><br />A healthy breakfast is an essential part of a healthy diet. Beginning your day with a good, nourishing meal is the first step toward maintaining a balanced diet and a sensible approach to good eating habits. And if looking for new employment in a new career is a result of personal choice, this process can be fun as well as challenging. Seeking employment when involving a career change will be easier if the new proposed career is at all related to your last career, taking for instance, photography in the area of industrial manufacturing to fashion photography. Your new career path will require many of the skills you have utilized in previous employment, but adapting them to the new subject models and finished product for use in fashion marketing publishing rather than business use in technical instruction articles and advertising.<br><br><br><br>When you stress your strengths in resumes and interviews while seeking employment as a career change, you will probably have a wealth of examples and job history to show evidence of your qualifications for this employment. And this will most likely make gaining new employment for your career change a shorter and easier process. If on the other hand you are seeking employment as a career change is in a totally new field for you from your prior employment history, you will need to take a somewhat different approach to convince the hiring individual that your motivation and new training makes you a desirable candidate for employment.<br><br><br><br>Before seeking employment as a career change, you should do an honest assessment of yourself. What are your likes and dislikes? What type of employment would you be good at? Will you need retraining for a career change? Are there some classes you could take now to prepare you for new and different employment? How realistic is it for you to be seeking employment as a career change right now? Is the employment market strong right now in the new field you have chosen?
