<description><![CDATA[ Many business owners with a dream to take their company public often neglect to prepare and plan for the future, very few small and mid-size companies have a business plan.<br /><br />A business plan is like a road map, and can be likened to when you go on a journey. Sometimes you need to change direction, it doesn’t mean your destination changes, you are just getting there via a different route.<br /><br />A vision is some thing that is birthed in the mind and soul of the individual, some people act on it and others procrastinate for a period of time only to see someone else take their dream and bring it to fruition.<br /><br />The dream giver will only allow you to sit on your dream for so long before giving it to someone else. You often hear people saying “ I had that idea two or three years ago”, what good is an idea without taking action, but with the action there must be a strategy.<br /><br />Businesses don’t plan to fail, they fail because they fail to plan. Entrepreneurs usually are visionaries who get an idea and run with it but, if you look at the successful ones they always had a plan, and a team to help them bring their dream to the market plece.<br /><br />The team can sometimes get you to the top, but it’s the strategy that takes you over the top, so don’t settle for second best, be the best.<br /><br />If you look at a twenty year chart of Microsoft Corporation, or Yahoo Inc. You will find that at one time their stock traded under a dollar but through brilliant strategies they were able to accomplished great things.<br /><br />Just like Bill Gates had a plan so must you develop one. Bill Gates also had Paul Allen so must you find someone who can complement your weak point. If you are not a good strategist go out and find yourself one who is not a yes man.<br /><br />The phrase “no man is an island” is most applicable in the corporate environment, where team work is essential for success.<br /><br />In small companies the dreamer is required at times to do everything and become efficient in every task, which is beneficial because he should know the functions of every department in the company. But he should have competent personnel in those position in order for him to be able to see the entire picture.<br /><br />This is where being a public company comes in handy, it allow the entrepreneur to use the company stock as an incentive to attract more competent and better qualified personnel and retain them. It also makes it possible for the company stock to be used for acquisition purposes.<br /><br />Team work is essential in order to be able to succeed. I remember in the 1980's investing in a company the appear to have a dream team for it’s management, everyone involved in management had a PHD and an ego to match it. A friend of mine who was the investment banker for the company related to me how he attended a meeting with the company and it was complete chaos, each person appear to think that their opinion was the only one deserving of consideration. Needless to say the company eventually file for chapter eleven.<br /><br />An entrepreneur must check his ego and keep it under control in order be able to lead those around him, nobody likes to work with an egomaniac.<br /><br />I believe that meetings can be useful or a waste of time, if all you do at a meeting is inform the staff of what you are doing or what you would like them to do, you are wasting valuable time that could be use to implement the corporate strategy. This can be done with a memo.<br /><br />In order for a meeting to be of some value it must include a free exchange of ideas, a good leader seeks to know what those who are in the corporate battle field think. Because they are the one who are in the trenches, in a position to be able to hear what customers and employees are thinking and saying.<br /><br />A good advisory service can sometimes be beneficial to assist in the evaluation of potential merger and acquisition candidates, to help identify potential candidates for joint ventures, or investment. I used "web hosting" as this would be a keyword my site is optimized for. If you did a search with Google for the words "Click Here" you will find that the #1 site for that search term is Adobe. <description><![CDATA[ In the world of Information Technology (IT) Management where acronyms and technologies seemingly reproduce exponentially, it is a necessity to be able to separate out the real important issues from the underlying noise. When it comes to monitoring, what really matters is the ability to drill through the noise and determine what in your business is either currently being affected, or what will become affected soon. <br /><br />There are two basic types of monitoring, fault management (which uses a push model), and network management (which traditionally uses a pull model). Fault management systems use a push model and receive packets of information without requesting it in the form of SNMP Traps, Notifications, and Informs. The senders of this information (the various equipments located on the network), do so whenever they feel that there is something noteworthy, and especially when there is a problem that they are experiencing, whether it be something they themselves are undergoing or something that a neighbor may be reporting to them. One advantage of these fault systems is the breadth of information that is available, as well as the fact that the information simply comes to the SNMP manager. The disadvantage to these types of systems are that typically once the information is sent, it is “too late”, and the problem has already happened. It is generally a “reactive” type of monitoring. At this point, the network administrator or engineer must come to the rescue, either with software tools such as a MIB Browser or real hardware tools such as a screwdriver and a hard-drive.<br /><br />Traditional Network management and monitoring systems use a pull model, and periodically (typically every 5 minutes), poll the systems in the network for specific statistics and information which may be used later on to correlate data or to run historical reports. The advantage of these types of systems is that they are “proactive”, and allow the admin to make decisions based on the statistics collected and the reports that they can run.<br /><br />The combination of the fault and network monitoring allows an administrator to have a much more holistic view of the network. Advanced systems can do event correlation to match some of these real-time faults and SNMP traps with data collected from the polling engines, and then real-life business decisions can be made. For example, if a system determines by analyzing historical data that the amount of free space on a hard-disk has decreased more rapidly as of late, and there is a fault that comes in from the online ordering system stating that it cannot take orders online anymore, a correlation engine can determine that the reason may in fact be because the hard-disk has finally filled up and this is preventing the ordering system from fulfilling orders. An even better system would look at trends over time and send a message to a network administrator before the hard-disk fills up, telling them that they have just a couple of days left before this potential problem could happen. <br /><br />In conclusion, network and fault management are two of the most crucial facets of your IT monitoring paradigm. There are other important facets of IT to manage, like applications and configuration, but both of these fall underneath the umbrella of network and fault in some cases as well. <description><![CDATA[ I just got off the phone with Michael Fortin, one of the top copywriters and conversion experts on the web.<br /><br />We were doing a teleseminar for our members on conversion and testing for website owners wanting more out of the traffic they already enjoy, rather than constantly having to promote their sites to support low conversion rates. Specifically, we were talking about all the things you can do to test different "calls to action."<br /><br />A call to action is anything you are trying to get people to do on any particular site or page of a site. It could be buying a product or service, getting people on an announcement list or newsletter, or getting people to click on your advertising links.<br /><br />Most web publishers are so happy when they finally have a site up that they consider their work done and get right to marketing it. Once the traffic rolls in, they enjoy whatever sales or clicks they get and try to make more money by driving MORE traffic to the site.<br /><br />Then they start building another site. And another.And another.<br /><br />This is a disturbing trend that is creating a massive amount of waste. Both in resources and time. Especially when it comes to niche publishers who are building massive networks of sites on different topics in order to capture emails, generate advertising revenue, sell affiliated products and services, or to build their lists to generate backend sales to their subscribers.<br /><br />The waste is generated when people are in too big a hurry to build more sites, add more products, and get more traffic to sites that can convert sometimes 1000% BETTER than they do now.<br /><br />They are moving at a hectic pace, in this scenario, to build build, when their income goals can most often easily be met without so much waste.<br /><br />One example of waste is when someone builds a content-dry site that has nothing but Adsense and some links on it. People hit that kind of site and can't wait to find a reason to leave. The thinking is, "Great! My 'click thru ratio' is sky high! I am getting almost everyone to click on my ads!"<br /><br />But here's what's happening in reality: you are working VERY hard to get traffic to such a site, only to "burn" it on a 35 cent click! No email capture, no follow-up, and most importantly no desire on the part of the visitor to EVER see your site again!<br /><br />Would you rather have someone come through your site and click immediately on an advertiser's link, never to return? Or would you rather have someone come to your site, read some great content, sign up for your list and not click on ANY links that first time?<br /><br />I will take scenario #2 any day of the week. And I won't have made a single penny off of that person with that initial action. But I will in the future!<br /><br />If you have a site that you constantly test and tweak for performance (beyond its ability to repulse your visitors into clicking on an advertisement just to get to a QUALITY site) then you have a real business.<br /><br />You can test and track SO MANY variables to make a site more profitable than it is now. Every site on the web can perform better than it does right now. Every single one!<br /><br />The people who understand this never stop testing their calls to action to get their visitors to do more than something that results in a one-time action.<br /><br />Traffic is the most expensive thing on the web both in the time it takes to get it and the resources you have to use up for each and every hit.<br /><br />The traffic you have now might be all the traffic you EVER need on a daily basis to make a killing with your site. You will never know until you test and track everything about your site.<br /><br />The headlines, the offers, the opt-in forms, the guarantees, testimonials, bullets, adsense placement, follow-up... In short, every webmaster on the net has a lot of work to do on every site they own if they really want to reap the kinds of profits their sites are actually capable of pulling in.<br /><br />Most people get a site up and are happy with the sales or clicks they get and move on. NO! You are leaving so much money on the table thinking you are done with a site right after you put it up.<br /><br />That site is the worst it should ever be! Wasting another domain fee, hosting fee, bandwidth and the costs associated with getting traffic to a brand new site before you have optimized your current site for the very best conversion it can pull is NOT good business practice.<br /><br />I know people who have literally thousands of domains. And one thing I can guarantee you is this: They are making a pittance, even if they are making $60,000 a DAY, in comparison to what they COULD be making with far fewer sites and more testing and tweaking of that smaller group!<br /><br />And Fortin seems to agree. He is going to be at my seminar in New Orleans September 9th - 11th, 2008 to expose everyone who attends to just how much money they have left on the table over the years because they have never tested different aspects of their calls to action.<br /><br />It is enlightening, as well as depressing to find out how much money you COULD have made all this time had you tested from the beginning!<br /><br />But the point is, you cannot go back to get all those lost subscribers, sales, or clicks. You can only start testing today to capture more money from each site you own. Why so many website owners are not able to make use of this powerful strategy? <br />Here are some reasons:- <br />1) Other marketers are NOT WAITING for your JV offer. Before sending your JV offer, make sure to address the question 'What's in it for the JV Partner?'. Unless you give a compelling reason, most partners are not looking forward to your offer. No, it won't work that way...like, you offer one of your products for free and your partner will gladly endorse it to her list. No, it won't. <br />It takes time to craft an irresistible offer. An initial email followed by another email reminder and a phone call should normally get you going. <br />3) Another strong de-motivating factor is NOT sending personalized JV offers. If your proposal does not 'speak' directly to your partner, it's chances of succeeding are very thin. <br />That's why I told you earlier, it takes time to create your JV proposal. You need to visit your partner's website, subscribe to their newsletter, study their online content and read their publications and articles before you attempt to draft your proposal. <br />Your JV proposal should address your potential partner directly, using their name. Mentioning a few things about their website, products, ezines or articles in your offer will surely catch their attention. <br />4) JV partners are not your affiliates. Differentiate your resellers with your strategic JV partner. To drastically raise the success rate of your proposal, offer a higher commission than your affiliates. <br />For example, if you are offering a 50% commission for your affiliates, your JV partner should be offered 60% or more. <br />5) Targeting a large corporation for your JV is a surefire way to failure. First, try and do several JV's with businesses similar or smaller than your own and build a track record. <description><![CDATA[ There's a report circulating on the Internet that the 'glory days' of Google Adsense are over -- because of a simple anti-website-publisher change that Google made to its Adwords program earlier this year.<br />Adwords is Google's contextual advertising innovation for Internet advertisers that lets any average person (or small business, or large company) set up his/her/its own ads -- to appear either on the Google Search Engine Page or on website pages like ours, or on both. Adsense is Google's advertising innovation for website developers, which gives websites like ours the chance to earn small dollops of cash each time a site visitor clicks a contextual ad we display. Adsense helps website developers defray expenses related to website improvement and maintenance.<br />The aforementioned 'Death Of Adsense' Report, states that Google changed its Adwords Program in March 2006 to allow Adwords advertisers to bid a separate price for ads that displayed on the Google Search Engine Page as opposed to ads that displayed on website pages.<br />From that date forward, an Adwords advertiser could bid high for favorable Search Engine results (which, it is the claimed, are generally more beneficial to advertisers) and bid low for well-placed ads on websites (which, it is claimed, are generally less beneficial for advertisers).
