The play found its home on Broadway at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre and opened on September 29, 2009. A Steady Rain New York will be running as a limited engagement set to close on December 6, 2009. The Story

For those who enjoy police and crime drama or any types of a dramatic storyline than A Steady Rain New York will be high on the list of shows to see. For Broadway, there are not the stunning production credits that most shows become known for such as Wicked or the Lion King. What the show does have is some amazing dialogue, which is sure to quickly capture and draw you right into the interesting situation of the characters. As for the props, there is really nothing more than a couple wooden chairs and a police integration setting but dazzling set design is not what this show is about. If looking for Broadway's bells and whistle then perhaps look elsewhere but if looking for one of the best great acting aside an amazing story amplified by wonderful dialogue and drama than this show is not to be missed.

The story tells of two lives long friends who also work on the Chicago beat as policemen. Both characters are drastically different at the current stage of their lives. While Denny has moved on into his adult life of having a home and family Joey continues more of a bachelors' life living alone and drinking somewhat heavily. The play moves on with both Denny and Joey telling their accounts of what occurred one evening as they had an encounter with a dangerous serial killer on the streets of the Windy City. The accounts of what had occurred differs between both characters.

While A Steady Rain New York is fresh to Broadway, in 2006 it was first produced at New York Stage and Film's Powerhouse Theater. In 2007 it enjoyed the first World Premier at Chicago Dramatists and by February 2008 found its home at Chicago's Royal George Theatre. The play went on to win the Best New Work and Best Production of the Jefferson Awards .The Broadway version has been able to land Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig most noted for their Silver Screen roles but creating a big draw to the show for many.

A Steady Rain New York is a wonderful and engaging Broadway experience. It offers great dialogue and characters acted brilliantly by Jackman and Craig. The crime drama genre may not appeal to everyone, especially when thinking of a Broadway production where the big musicals have become the trend this play is sure to provide memorable entertainment for all who venture into the city to catch it. A Steady Rain center around a couple of lifelong friends from the great city of Chicago. The two characters, Denny and Joey could not be more different when looking in. Denny has the typical perfect life with his home, wife and children and seems very content. Joey, on the other hand, remains single, stays alone and spends free time drinking in excess. Not only are the two characters quite different but their accounts of one disturbing evening on working at the city beat differs as well. The play moves through it's storyline telling each other's accounts of what happened when they had an encounter with a serial killer and goes on to explain how it directly affected their relationship and loyalty. This tension between the characters as well as the big Hollywood names playing them has made A Steady Rain tickets for Broadway much sought after.


If looking for big Broadway production values than perhaps A Steady Rain tickets are not for you. This play does not boast much in the way of scenery and instead works from its strong dialogue and characters. The entire play consists of not much more than the two main characters, a couple of chairs and the classic lightings used for a classic interrogation. Do not look at this as a
downfall of the production as the two actors, script and atmosphere draw you right into the story and never let's go.
